A mark of bravery of British soldiers who fought valiantly and resting here. Mainly Jack Nicholson, a 7 feet soldier during his time. It is taken care by Christian/Diocese society. Some of great grand children still come to this place from England to lay their respect to their ancestors. It has lot of history, nostalgic tales, and history of early settlement of Britain Old Delhi. It is near to Kashmiri gate, tees hazari, ludlow castle, Metcalfe house, walled Delhi. Don't be fooled if the main (and only) gate appears to be locked. Just reach inside and pull up the bolt. It is a forgotten wonderland, overgrown, tangled weeds and vines, riot of beautiful red bougainvillea. Many of the tombstones have toppled over and are broken. There are graves dating before the Mutiny in 1857. Lots of young soldiers, with the cause of death on their gravestone - enteric fever, pleurisy. Fatalistic - the most common inscription was "Thy will be done".

The person at the entry said this is a private place, no public allowed inside! Deceptive listing in the maps.

This is Christian burial ground between Kashmiri gate and St Xavier's School, Raj Niwas Marg, Old Delhi. Nicholson was the British officer who was killed in 1857 battle for Delhi, who is buried here. This is also the resting place of Dr. Father Camille Bulke, the famous Jesuit Hindi scholar.

Here lies a man whom friends and foes feared alike. A general at the age of 36, he was known for his vision and swordsmanship. He hated the 'natives' to the core. Died fighting while storming Delhi after the famous Delhi siege in 1857.

Nicholson Cemetery was established after the Revolt of 1857 and is named after Brigadier-General John Nicholson, who played a crucial role in containing the revolt. His grave is at the entrance and is protected by Archaeological Survey of India. #NicholsonCemetery

Hidden between the hustle bustle of Kashmere gate. Entry is next to Kashmere gate metro gate 4. Entry is restricted but you can request the guard. The place needs maintenance as too many wild plants have grown around the graves. Wear full clothes to avoid mosquitoes.

Nicholson Cemetery, formerly known as Old Delhi Military Cemetery and Kashmere Gate Cemetery, is a Christian cemetery located at Kashmere Gate in Delhi, India. It is located near Kashmere Gate Metro Station and west of Inter State Bus Terminal. This is the earliest known Christian burial place in Delhi NCR. The cemetery was established in 1857 and is named after Brigadier-General John Nicholson, a Victorian-era military officer who played a key role during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Who owns the St. James Church Cemetery, the oldest place of worship for the Christian community of Delhi. The church, along with the cemetery, St. Stephen's Hostel and the Victorian-era houses of the Kashmere Gate neighborhood, was once considered a "centripetal" part of Christians in Delhi.

Forgotten, creepy, dusty, out of this world....paradoxically nowhere the past comes to life better than in this place. You know about the history of the Brits in India, of the 1857 mutiny. Here you are confronted with all that (is gone). But also beautiful and sad, all those stories. Recommended if you don't mind the creepy atmosphere.
