Saturday lunch in an iconic Goan restaurant of Colaba, Mumbai New Martin Hotel , established in 1950, more than 70 years ago. This iconic, popular restaurant with legacy of serving authentic Goan dishes for more than 7 decades. This restaurant is closed on Sunday (remember it) Nestled in the heart of Colaba, restaurant looks humble but food is the star. One of the best destination for coastal cuisines, specially - Seafood, Indian, Goan, non-veg thalis. Aspy had his all time favourite, steak with fried onions and chips. I had Goan fish curry, rice along with Surmai fry Authentic Goan curry taste, felt like I'm in Goa 🙈 And the signature dessert - Apricot custard. Crossed Gateway of India, Mumbai while returning back...

No goan taste..Fish was fresh but gravy was very common and not tasty..Very little restaurant..compact seating arrangement. when restaurants were food and not fashion. They've maintained the look and feel of the years gone by. With all the hype and hoopla, the food seems to have lost its glory. I'd give a 1.5 out of 5. Service is good. Staff are Very helpful and friendly. 4star out of 5 for service. Take away facilities also available..only problem is taste..this restaurant may be good for pork lovers..so they should change the name of restaurant in favor of pork.

Very humble restaurant which speaks with the taste and quality of food. Tables and kitchen was hygenic. Everything I ordered was very tasty , authentic and economic. The dish which stood out most was the Pork vindaloo. It looked intimating red coloured and spicy but was mild, full bodied with very well cooked pieces of meat. The menu is short and no frill, cost of everything in economic and pocket friendly.

Visited the place first time on Saturday 5/02/22 at around 1:40 afternoon, got a table at around 2:20 after a long wait due to a queue. Ordered a beef steak with potato wedges, fish curry rice, surmai fry, & apricot custard. Our order arrived in 15-20 mins, now getting to the taste, the beef steak was unevenly cooked as some parts of it was like chewing bubble gum. Only tasty part of the steak was the potato wedges & fried onion topping. Next the fish curry was average, it was a tad bit on the salty side, though the fish piece in the curry was very nice. Moving on to the Surmai fry which was very disappointing since it lacked flavour & spice. It wasas tasting only of a light chili powder rub & nothing else, ended with apricot custard, it was ok for the price, taste was nothing to write about. The service was painfully slow as there was just one person manning the cash, taking orders, cleaning up & serving, probably had a staff issue going on that day, but he was doing a great job though single handedly. The other bright side of the afternoon than the lone staff there for me personally was an old parsi couple whom we accomodated on our table & they had just walked in sweating, shaking & panting in the hot sun, they were in their late 80s or even more possibly, otherwise wouldn't have got a seat until closure. We got chatting & nedless to mention their typical Parsi humour, we had a good conversation. They had ordered long before they reached the hotel yet their order was not ready to serve. We left at 3:00 yet they were still waiting. Most of the dishes were sold before we ordered. Lastly though it was not a very memorable food experience taste wise, but price wise very reasonable. I think I'll go back to try some more stuff as everything was practically over this time. If chefs are overburdened then quality deteriorates for sure, the lines between flavorful food, quality,& commercial temptations are very fine & get blurred easily these days.

Martins - as we called it all these years, continues to be a place that serves great Goan Cuisine and at extremely reasonable rates. Decades ago, this place was our hangout with friends. Sharing their menu dated 17/11/2021

Great place for a non vegetarian. Ordered the Pork Vindaloo, Goan Sausages and Buff chilli fry. All three were delicious and went well with simple pav. We did order plain pulao later too, but all three tasted best with Pav. Dishes were very affordable. We ended our meal with the Jelly Custard. But didn’t find anything great about that dessert. It’s a small place with only four tables with the Menu written with chalk. The owner personally comes and serves each table. So overall, i can say the Restaurant had a subtle yet lovely ambience.

A very very small and simple place ,nothing fancy about the interiors and everything looks basic. The thing that makes this place stand apart is the food and it's taste and flavour,Just home made soul food. The Pork Sorpotel is just amazing, well cooked meat and the taste will just tickle your taste buds and keep you wanting for more. The Steak is something that is really good too, you need to be really lucky to have it as this place sells the steak out very fast, juicy and tender topped with Onions. Also the Vindaloo and Goan Sausage thingy is great but nothing beats the Steak and the Sorpotel at this place.Parking can be tough to find but this place is really a Gem and is a must try for every meat lover.Pocket friendly too as the most pricy dish on the menu is only priced for Rs 160/- and you get a good quantity too.Very friendly staff as well.

Small place but a good one! Staff is super polite and feels like you are having food at a Goan/Mangalorean home. Beef Chilli and Steak recommended. Not to miss the Custard Pudding...if you've got a sweet tooth...you'd be surprised 😛😛 PS - open only up to 9pm from Mon to Sat. Sunday closed

Consistent taste over 3 to 4 decades, maybe more. Quaint place, part of the city's / national heritage. Needs to be preserved. Andy and Sunil serve patrons like they enjoy being ambassadors of this place. Steak onion chips. B Chilly. Sarpotel. Visit before the entire building gets into redevelopment. Don't be greedy, leave some dishes for others to relish too.

While I've been to this place a couple of times for it's delicious Goan fare, today's incident put me off and showed the hotel's true face. Found a hair in my prawn pulao and the waiter was unapologetic about it. After returning the dish i ordered another item on the menu. On finishing my meal and asking for the bill i noticed they had charged me for the prawn pulao. I requested him to deduct it from the bill since i had returned it immediately after finding a hair. He disagreed and told me to pay since i ate half of the dish. He also argued that the hair can be the customer's as well. I had a peek in the kitchen and noticed that the basic standards of hygiene are not met. After the argument he relented and deducted the prawn pulao charges. Just before i left the place i told him you've lost a customer and his brazen reply was 'you don't have to come again'.

Authentic Goan food at very affordable prices in Mumbai. We tried the Prawn pulao, Fish curry-Rice, Pork Vindaloo and Goan Sausage chili fry. All the dishes were flavorful and enticing. For desserts we had the custard. I'd rate it a 3.5/5.

Enjoyed the mutton cutlets and steak fry/ service is a bit lacking but seems to be the general case with most restaurants in Mumbai.

If you like Goan food then this is the place to go to. The ambience is nothing to look at also please do not peek into the kitchen. However, the food is just too good, especially if you eat pork. The tenderness and flavours are just excellent and mouth watering. They also have an exceptional fish curry rice and all this at a very affordable price. A must visit for Goan food.

I recently dined at the New Martin Hotel in Mumbai, and I had a delightful experience. This restaurant offers a variety of delicious vegetarian dishes that cater to a wide range of tastes. The atmosphere was pleasant, with a cozy and welcoming ambiance that made it a great place for a relaxed meal. The service was attentive, and the staff was friendly. I particularly enjoyed their flavorful Indian cuisine, and their menu had a good balance of traditional and innovative dishes. Overall, I highly recommend the New Martin Hotel for anyone looking for a satisfying vegetarian dining experience in Mumbai.❤️❤️🔥

Absolutely delicious, home style Goan food with lip smacking recipes. My favorites were the steak with onion and chips, as well as the prawns pulao. Also recommend trying their vindaloo and chili fry curries.

Authentic Goan, Manglorean Food. Quality of the food available and served is excellent. Value for money. Daily fresh food is prepared as the dishes get over quickly. There is home delivery also available. Credit goes to the owner and the staff preparing the food. 👏👏👏👏👍👌👌

Pros - no fuss Goan meal. No elaborate menu to confuse you, no choice of fish, no separate tables... Just say fry or curry/ fish or prawns and enjoy... Perfect for a quick goan lunch Cons - i wish you could start a goan dessert to go with the lunch like serradurra,

Food was very nice and I don't think you'll get such value for money food anywhere in Mumbai these days. 🤣 However Goan food does make one very lazy. 🦥

Perfect place when you're craving for Goan food. Quick service and lovely portions for the price. Parking could be a hassle. Otherwise, this place tops with their taste as well as service.

Delicious things come in small packages. This hotel is the best example for it. The food tastes awesome, but the hotel is small and has like 5 tables for people to sit.

What a gem of a place - don’t let looks deceive you... some of the best food in town comes out of this little hole in the wall place! I can’t help but order their chicken curry every time I visit! Great food, such nice people

The most authentic Goan fare in a really simply environment. A hidden gem. The sausage chilly fry , roast, sorpatel , vindaloo are the real deal. For the non adventurous the chicken pulao and curry. The apricot custard is the best on this side of the planet A hidden Gem. Don't let the basic interiors dampen your spirits. Very friendly waiters.
