Kunchikal
falls,
the
2nd
highest
tiered
waterfall
in
India,
and
the
highest
in
Karnataka.
The
flow
to
the
falls
is
greatly
reduced
because
of
the
Mani
dam
built
accross
the
Varahi
river
that
forms
the
falls.
Unfortunately
due
to
the
hydroelectric
power
plant,
the
entire
area
is
cordoned
off
and
one
requires
special
permission
to
visit
the
falls.
Since
the
pandemic
began,
the
passes
(which
can
be
obtained
from
Hosangadi
village,
15
km
away)
have
not
been
issued.
The
locals
also
confirmed
that
people
get
covered
neck
deep
in
insects,
some
of
them
dangerous,
during
monsoons,
which
is
the
ideal
time
to
see
the
falls,
but
it
is
especially
dangerous,
and
often
passes
aren't
issued.
Also
most
of
the
photos
under
Kunchikal
falls
are
either
of
Jog
falls
or
some
other
falls.
The
dam
area
has
photography
and
videography
prohibited,
even
with
passes.
