Nice view of nature along with a water at a great height near Nepal and India border. Best time to visit is from Jan to May. #Travel_Kalpokhari_Lake #Travel_with_vivek #Traveller_Sharma

I have visited Kalipokhari lake twice; first in January 2015 and second in May 2019. The lake is on the trail to Sandakphu. Sandakphu is the highest point of the West Bengal. In the route to Sandakphu, Kalipokhari is a perfect place to stay. A few local people, a small ground, a broken wall, and the lake synchronizes beautifully. Kalipokhari is almost at the border of India and Nepal. "Pokhari" stands for 'Lake' and "Kali" is 'black'; A small lake surrounded by mountains with black water in it. The local people worship the lake in a religious ritual. The colorful small flags make the scene more attractive. You could be lucky to see the lake frozen and white ice on the ground. One can take a direct car to Kalipokhari from Manebhanjan or Dhotrey.

A mesmerizing view. The dark colour of the water and the white snow was complimenting each other. The water was frozen as it was the month of december when I was there. One thing to remember very clearly, its a sacred water body so never throw any rock into it.

Amazing amazing view. Great grass path. Moving clouds. Cold, sun. The lake, the rock. Surrounding view. Himalayan views. Everything is just heavenly. Just put this into your bucket list. Everyday can experience this amazing trekking experience.

It's not a swimming lake, first of all as mentioned in the Google Maps.... It's a sacred lake and you should not immerse your feet in it... It has religious importance in the village. The water is kind of dark and that's why this name. Avoid being here during sunset or evening because it is fully covered in mist and you could get yourself hurt by small stones or boulders present all around...

The tremendous view of Kalipokhri and the Lake itself was mesmerizing. Finding a lake on so high land was really something that you wont expect. The hill view was awesome. Clouds were moving between the mountains and its an amazing scene to watch. In Kalipokhri you can spend a night or two. Hotel and restaurants both are available.

Kalipokhri Lake is a small lake on the Indo-Nepal border near the village by the same name. Kali means black and Pokhri means lake in the local language. It is full of blackish coloured water and covered with prayer flags, as it is supposed to be a sacred lake to the local Nepali residents. We got a fantastic view of the Himalayas from the stupas nearby. The strong breeze from over the mountains could almost blow you away. The lake is located on the Manebhanjyang-Sandakphu trek route, 52 km from Darjeeling, 25 km from Manebhanjyang, and just 6 km from Sandakphu, which is the highest peak in West Bengal.

The name "Kalipokhri" originated from this lake or pond filled with black water. However the black color is not due to pollution, it's muddy and the water never freezes. The small lake is considered sacred by the local villagers. You have to stay at night in here if you are trekking to Sandakphu. There are a few private lodges here like Chewang lodge, Himchuli lodge etc. Vegetarian foods are available here.
