Beautiful countryside filled with wildlife and biking trails. If you want to get away from the noise of city life, this is a wonderful place for a long walk or a picnic. There are several nice pavilions for larger groups. Check out the exhibits in the Visitor Center to learn more about the rich history of the park. We enjoyed talking to Patty, the park ranger, and watching the birds feed near the visitor center. It was too hot for hiking, but we hope to return to try out one of the many trails in this park Update: we visited again on 5/21/23 and had a wonderful hike on the trails. The weather was perfect. The park is very scenic. The trails are well marked and well maintained. There were many people enjoying the trails on bike and on foot. This is a beautiful place. I am so glad we decided to hike at Fort Ben today.

Loved it here! Went here to bike with my husband and it was such a pleasant ride! The trails were nice and super fun to do! The place is well maintained and has great benches and sit down areas where you can relax or have a picnic. Do bring bug spray if you’re planning to be near the ponds!

Hiking the trails by Fall Creek took me back to when I was a little kid running around the Active Duty Ft. Harrison. Great paths both dirt and paved so anyone can enjoy the outdoors. Several pavilions and grill areas so it's perfect for an family party. Get yourself a season pass and enjoy it all summer.

We went for a family fishing day and enjoyed the day. The trails were pretty clean and both the lake and duck pond were beautiful! The duck pond is a walk! It was very peaceful. There was a small playground area when heading towards the lakes and we did see plenty of picnic areas. The restrooms were all a bit spaced apart so it helps to know where they are prior to starting your hike.

It's a piece of God's country nestled in among a urban jungle. The park itself has a multitude of different activities from hiking, fishing, bike trails, and the list doesn't end. But our last visit was our 1st trip there during the winter and hands down is the best place in Indianapolis to take your kids sledding! Not to mention without the leaves on and the snow on the ground you can see the hidden beauty deep in the woods. My heart belongs to Turkey Run State Park its where I grew up and learned to appreciate the conservation efforts started over a 100 years ago, but while we endure city life Fort Harrison will be my home away from home.

The dog park requires membership (it's huge and looks amazing). I didn't know this and drove over 30 minutes to be disappointed. However, the state park has so much to offer and dogs are allowed on leash so we hiked, played in a creek and still had a splendid time. We even got to listen to a presentation on box turtles. It's $7 for a day pass.

Beautiful park! I love visiting this park. I take my dog it's 7 dollars per vehicle to enter and they have a lake you can fish in with a fishing license. You can purchase a fishing license at the park entrance. Very clean and I always feel safe here. You don't have people playing there music loud or have to worry about people doing questionable things in the parking lot.

I am visiting my cousin in Indianapolis and often hike at state parks back home in Long Island. I was so impressed with Fort Harrison State Park. The trails we walked, Fall Creek and Camp Creek were so beautiful. The challenge was perfect and I can't wait to hike on the Lawrence Creek trail next time I visit. I am posting some incredible views of the hike.

This is a very nice park. Especially if you are into history. Built in 1903 from a land purchase grant from the federal government. Soldiers were housed here in tents, also home to German prisoners of war during World War 2. Also features a seasonal museum, riding stables, and hiking trails.

Fort Harrison State Park is an ideal destination for a delightful weekend day trip. Whether you're seeking a peaceful picnic spot, a leisurely hike with friends or family, or a place to give your furry friends a satisfying workout, this park has it all. It offers a serene atmosphere where you can unwind and spend quality time with your loved ones, leaving behind the stresses of your daily routine to relax and rejuvenate. During our visit, we dedicated more than half a day to exploring the park, embarking on a calming hike to the creek. We enjoyed a delightful picnic and spent the rest of the day sitting on the banks of the small lake, finding solace in the tranquil surroundings. Without a doubt, it has become one of our cherished spots in the Indianapolis area.

Very beautiful park on a fall day. Went there with my fiance to take advantage of some warm weather in November and this place did not disappoint. There are packed trails and were marked beautifully. We say folks walking with dogs, pushing strollers and many who were riding bicycles. It has a little bit for EVERYONE.

GROWN folks had a great time at the Blues & BBQ Fest at Fort Harrison. 4 live bands, food trucks, lots of fun. Lots of folks brought their dogs, looked like Dog Fest. Folks brought lawn chairs, coolers, tents, kids, dogs. But you had to pay to get into the park, and parking lots were so far away from the stage, it was a looonngg walk carrying your gear. Luckily I caught the shuttle/Hay ride they provided 😀

Barry exceeded our expectations with great customer service. We were on a trip to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary and he put us in a room that was quiet and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful, and we enjoyed seeing the historic homes as we walked the loop. The breakfast was fresh and hot. It would have been a 5-star experience, but there were some maintenance issues with the bathroom. We did address these with the front desk before we left.

Such a beautiful state park if I've ever seen one. The scenery and wildlife are in abundance and is always a great location to get away and enjoy peace and quite surroundings.

1st nice day in a while.... Long line to get in, but we all thought it was worth it! The dogs even found the last remaining snow in the park to eat and lay on at the end of the walk🤣🤣 We were all tired at the end of the day and really enjoyed our walk!

Beautiful state park with a really nice paved walking trail for my dad to enjoy on his scooter. He's 94 & has hiked these trails even before it became a state park, but he can no longer walk long distances so the paved trail allows him to still enjoy a trip on a nature trail.

I visited Fort Harrison State Park in June of 2023. My stay at the Inn was very peaceful and comfortable. My hike along the Camp Creek Trail was lovely!

If you're into the old rustic type venues but is still kept up well and modernized in the right areas, I highly recommend this Inn. I thought it was cool that they had a free continental breakfast. That's the first time I've seen that at a State Park Inn. The park was very educational. The nature center had a fun area that let you load a Ruck sack and show what was essential for a hike.

My first visit and the fall colors were amazing! I strolled along the river bank and past the lake. Nice hills to push yourself if ya want but plenty to take in if you're the four a leisurely stroll. Wil return!

We love Fort Harrison State Park! Took the littles to a naturalist chat about Bald Eagles where we learned all about that beautiful bird and the kiddos made a cute craft! Then we went on a long hike where we heard a wood thrush, found a cool mushroom, saw a lot of Daddy long leg spiders, and met some cool doggos. We ended our time by attending another naturalist chat, this one was about the beautiful ambassador wildlife who call the nature center home. The naturalist fed all the animals which the kids loved! The box turtle loved her blueberries and the red eared slider cleaned her plate as well. My favorite was the black rat snake, who happily scarfed down a baby rat for her meal! Amazing nature center and really cool naturalists!

Beautiful park and well maintained. Enjoy the variations of trails and ease of use. We've enjoyed it so much we've even purchased a year long pass.

15 years of attending Fort Harrison and unfortunately it's going down hill. Lack of maintenance, amenities, staff, and major repairs are needed everywhere. My wife and children have enjoyed this park however, so much has been slowly been taken away. I hope the state and park officials understands this and step in to bring this park back to life.

Love this park BUT I’m leaving a 1 star review until they ban smoking in the parking lot! Some guys smoke blew constantly at me and my kids while I’m administering asthma medication! It’s disgusting. Smoking is banned around buildings and it needs to be banned at public parks especially in front of the CHILDRENs playground!!!! ❌🚭

Loved the hiking trails and the best part about it being connected by trail from downtown Indy. Peaceful and filled with greenery! You might spot a few bucks.

👍 Small but nice little pond to walk around, over the years the have added more trees, a pavilion and a day time bathroom. This spot does connect to the bike path and you can walk out to the lake. They have a restroom you can use, which makes it nice to stay longer and enjoy fishing, and birdwatchi...
