Beautiful, largely from the water in the canal, and also from the trees. Surprisingly quiet for downtown, probably due to being below street level. You can find people of all ages during the day: walking alone or in groups; walking their dogs; jogging; riding bikes; etc. There are sites and restaurants at the lower canal level. Here and there, there are ways to cross the canal from one side to the other, or to climb back up to street level; but you may have to look around, since they're not always obvious.

Fantastic place to stroll! Lots of nooks and crannies with artwork or live performances. Will definitely have to take another look when the weather warms up and things like the pedal boats are open.

Gorgeous walk in the middle of Indianapolis. Very clean, well maintained and not too crowded. If you are in the area, this is a great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Really beautiful area and scenery. I was really surprised Indianápolis has a canal. It definitely impressed me. It has beautiful murals under the bridges and architecture all around. It’s a fun walk by the water.

Very nice area to go sit and walk around. We had our dog with us and she loved walking around and looking at things. She loved seeing and meeting other friendly dogs. They have plenty of places for people to sit and even have a playground for kids.

Such a beautiful walk!! Definitely got my steps in. I love that there is a way to get back to the other side every so often. Once you walk one way, you aren’t stuck going all the way around!! Will for sure be back to rent the cute little swan paddle boats!! :)

The canal was beautiful and peaceful. I’m unsure if it was because I visited on a weekday, but it was ghost town. I was expecting some shops, random carts to purchase things, or something entertaining. There was, from what I could remember, one Italian restaurant. I was disappointed by all of the vandalism on the art. It is worth the visit. But it's not necessarily fun. If you need a break to get your mend together. I can see this being an amazing place.

It's my second time at the canal walk. If I'm not mistaken, the canal walk is about 1.2 mile long. I enjoyed walking along the canal & would certainly visit it anytime when in the area. It's family friendly environment & kids loved it.

Great place to stroll leisurely with the family. Easy walk, great scenery. The water was quite dark and murky but still beautiful.

A very nice park, beautiful peaceful walk. I really enjoy coming down here on cool days when it's not so hot. Good for walking or jogging, beautiful ducks, a activities park and nearby cafe, makes this a must if you're here visiting.

Such a great downtown walk. It’s not too far from the start to the end of the scenic walk, I believe it’s 3 miles all around. Felt very safe walking alone just people watching and enjoying the day. There’s the 2 museums right on the pathways you can go to from the pathway. Also if walking is not your thing, there’s swan boat and bike rentals that can utilized.

What a lovely addition to Indy. Started in the late 90's has filled in nicely over the last couple of decades. The north end has a great water feature and some places to relax. There are benches and plenty of shady spots throughout. With plenty of access and exits at the bridges that pass over. There is a spacious playground and park for the little tikes. In the spring and early summer there are plenty of baby waterfowl getting around. You can take gondola rides and rent paddle boats. The southern end at the White River has another water feature as the canal empties into the river. There are plenty of feeder options at the southern end heading down both banks of the river. The walk behind the zoo is special in its own regard. Overall it's just a great place to exercise, relax or whatever.

Wonderful family friendly downtown Indy attraction! Great location, walk or run along the canal, rent a surrey bike or pedal boat for an hour or two ($). There may be live music & food carts during event weekends. Large green space for the children to run and play. You can also see the banks of the White River. There is also a large walking bridge across White River. Convenient parking nearby. Great photo/social media photo location. 📸

We walk the canal every weekend, and after our walk, we go to the AMAZING playground for our kiddo to play. This is something that our entire family looks forward to. I highly recommend the canal walk for families. Oh, and as a bonus, there are ducklings currently!!! They are absolutely the most adorable little creatures 😍 💕

Very pretty and nice walk. About 3 miles long around a river and it's so nice. Great for walking, jogging, biking. Definaly recommend doing a Gondala ride while there. It's such a nice place to just walk and talk it doesn't even feel like 3 miles. They also have a Cafe for drinks and food.

Absolutely lovely 1 1/2 mile walk along the romantic canal. Ivy walls, water features, benches, ducks and geese, gardens, parks, and an incredible Italian restaurant along the way gives all the European vibes.

This was a great experience!! We got there early morning and, were greated by slow moving paddle boats, and ducks. Great cityscape, great park, and the atmosphere is very tranquil. Not to mention all of the artwork, also this is a perfect place for a picnic... your welcome!

Very nice walking area. There is a lot of apartments and and family homes in the area. Access points to different streets and businesses. There is also points of interest such as a war memorial and a park. There is also water taxis and a paddle boat ride rental location.

I’ve been to Indy multiple times, but never knew about the canal walk until our most recent trip. We walked on a Sunday morning, taking the canal to the zoo and looping all the way back. The canal and walkway were very clean, and we really enjoyed the USS Indianapolis monument and story. Part of me wished that there would have been a restaurant or two along the canal, but then again that would have added noise/traffic and litter I’m sure. Two things to really keep in mind are that 1) there is no public restroom, and 2) that you may get caught/scared by the Bushman and end up on YouTube… both can be equally frightening. You’ve been warned 🙂
