Holy cow – best sushi I have ever had. Wait staff is friendly, and my friends have tried dishes other than sushi that were also fantastic. My only complaint is the wait time; both times I have dined here, we either waited over an hour to be seated or to get our food, and both times we had a reservation. It is so worth it, but be aware that it is not a great place to go if you are pressed for time.

I've been coming to Sakura for years, and I have no clue why I never put in a good word. Sakura is about as high quality and fair priced as you're going to get in the Indy region. I wouldn't bother trying any of the boutique places downtown or on Mass Ave - you'll be disappointed compared to here. Ex Hot tea is $1.50. They will bring you refills. So many other places want to charge $3 for a cup. It is one of those things overcharging for makes little sense They have all of the traditional Japanese menu items you want...from a simple box to a donburi. The uni they get here is really really fresh - unreal for the Midwest. Make sure to let it sit in your mouth for a few seconds and THEN take a sip of water! The miso is always on point. Seaweed salad is fresh. And all of the basic rolls taste great. Avoid the more complicated rolls. Stick to the hamachi and saba.

I stopped in here on a weeknight and ordered sushi. The service was slow, but the sushi was delicious. I tried the Hoosier roll and the Philadelphia roll and the salmon roll. I will be back very soon!

As a sushi connoisseur, Sakura has not only been the best sushi in Indianapolis, but possibly within the state. It takes a lot for me to write a review, but after being a patron that would argue in the defense of the average California Roll enthusiast.. I have to fully pull back my endorsement after my last visit. Sakura *historically* has been the #1 spot for good & quality rolls. For reference, we spent ~$100 for this service. We made reservations in advance 2-3+ days in advance as I was returning with my fiancé from North Carolina to meet with my family here for a celebratory dinner. Sakura for both me as a prior local, and my parents due to their heritage over the years, has been a place which everyone I knew held in high regard as the #1 sushi restaurant in the entirety of Indiana. I hate to write this review, but I no longer hold this respect for this establishment. We made it abundantly clear how much this visit meant to us. As this family has made multiple trips to Japan directly - Sakura has always been the location to experience the same quality of food for the last two decades. I can no longer feel the same. We waited for two hours to receive our food after 20 min of waiting to be seated for our reservations. This was a busy evening, but after 3 attempts to determine status of our order - we gave up and elected to just take our food to go. We offered to pay for our meal, despite our experience, as we have had an enormous amount of respect for this establishment. And writing this review - we will never be returning and I am embarrassed to have put the effort into this as I have. After waiting two hours for our food, we asked to just have our meals prepped to go and pay for our meal promptly. We had a 20% upcharge not communicated to us prior for a petty of five, with a discount provided for our hassles to only negate this. I have gone from someone who has chosen to have the #1 meal they could pick at Sakura, to someone who feels directly insulted after speaking to the manager after our experience nearly in tears, to just be told “sorry for the hassle”. Thank you, Sakura, as you have turned a lifelong advocate to someone who won’t be returning. I understand things can become busy, but when you pay zero value to customers that respect this establishment for the #1 location to celebrate their engagement - I fail to see any amount of customer respect being provided anymore. Here is to the glory days of Sakura adorned with dated signed complimentary postings across your walls. Thank you for providing the insightful experience you did for my family of patrons that valued your establishment across all sushi restaurants from Indy to a 9 hr road trip to experience. I hope experiences for others vary, though I would no longer allow Sakura the benefit of quality that they have had before

We went in tonight and sat at the sushi bar, and there was a live cockroach walking across a sushi bar. We used to be regulars at this place eating their two and three times a week, but as time is going on, we noticed that the place was getting dirty and the service and turnaround time was terrible. So we stopped going as often. This one’s used to be our favorite sushi place, but it has now turned into a ghetto dirty dump! We used to go there on a regular basis and eventually got tired of the service being horrible. Waiting hours just to get sushi. We hadn’t been there in quite a long time and now I know why the place is dirty disgusting and when you see a live cockroach walk across the table, when you’re getting ready to sit, it disgusted me. It’s a shame such a great place has now turned into a slum.

Sakura is perhaps one of the best authentic sushi places in this hicks town of Indianapolis. We came here on Monday and unlike what Anthony Bourdain's advice (never on Monday for weekend leftover) Sakura's chef special cuts (Omakasai) sashimi were absolutely freshest even in this Midwest town. Customers service was superbly attentive even on this packed Monday night. Highly recommended

This is a hidden gem of a restaurant in the northern Indy area in my opinion. The outside isn’t flashy like other restaurants (especially ones north of it at Keystone), but the interior is very atmospheric, the staff I have had here in the past were friendly, and the sushi has always been lovely here. Particularly recommend coming for the lunch specials.

Some of the best sushi we’ve ever had! Prices were decent ($8-12 per role). The portion sizes were on the larger side, and everything was very tasty! Service was great too

Behind an unassuming exterior lies a comfortable dining room and one of the better spots for sushi in Indianapolis. The menu is relatively short and carries the expected balance of edomae & modern/American. A good spot if you're craving classic nigiri, but no omakase or even seasonal items like uni were available. I would quibble with the seasoning of the rice a bit but the nigri construction itself and proportion to neta was good and most people wouldn't notice good vs meh rice anyway. Takoyaki could have used more octopus but the grilled squid was great. Don't forget to bring a friend or three for dessert because the fried ice cream portion is huge. We will very likely be back!

The food - when it finally came - was very good, no complaints there. But my God, we got to the restaurant on a Saturday at 5PM - as soon as they opened - and ordered by 5:05PM, however we didn't get our first plate of food until 6:45PM! I watched rows of people pick up food, tons of food for delivery or pick up go past us, and pretty much everyone that was seated after us get their food before us. I would have taken off, but my son was adamant about waiting for the food. Our last olate - thevmain rolks, arrived at 6:55PM, almost two hours after we ordered.... Not sure what is going on here, but the wait was obscene!

Sakura is my favorite sushi spot in Indy. Warm atmosphere and the servers are great. The Florida roll is yummy. And we always get the chef's choice sashimi platter. It's always fantastic. The house saki is 👍

Absolutely delicious food and friendly attentive service. I got the udon noodle soup with shrimp tempura. The shrimp could have been more crispy but the impeccable service and the soup served in a heavy heated pot made up for that.

Very underrated Japanese restaurant. Definitely a gem considering it's in a sketchy looking area. I got the fish teriyaki and it was really good 😊 my only complaint would be that it feels like a little bit of food for what you get. Love the atmosphere!

The lady who brings you to your table and hands you the menu is just lovely. The service is great also. The people at the sushi bar are doing a great job making those rolls. It was my first time today dining in and the sushi was amazing! Very fresh and has excellent flavors. I really recommend this place!

Arrived at 5:15, our server took our order and dropped our drinks. They didn't' touch our table again until 6:45. Sat without drinks for about 45 minutes. We watched multiple other tables that came in after us get sat, served, and turned before anyone came back. Bummer to drop almost $100 to be ignored for almost an hour and a half. We both have been going here for more than a decade as a great date night, but probably not any more.

Great food. Slow service tonight as far as taking order, receiving food and checking out. New computer system in place so all that will get better. As always very busy and kind staff. Will return for sure.

I read google reviews to try this place. When there we ordered Sashimi and Sushis. Sashimi was extremely mediocre. The tuna slice was tasteless but the salmon was alright. We ordered 2 sushis - both had a stinky fish smell. Now we ate sushi at lot of different places and regions. That smell is a sushi killer. When we pointed that out , the hostess got defensive and denied to cancel our order. We waited for a little over an hour for sushi. It was a Saturday night so I understand. I will not recommend this place for any kind of sushi , Sashimis or ngiris.

Wow, an actual authentic Japanese restaurant! I've never been to one that was fully authentic (owners/servers and food in terms of authentic). Everywhere else was more of a hybrid when claiming to be Japanese. I just wish it wasn't predominantly sushi as I don't like fish and yes, the Japanese diet is probably around 70% fish type dishes, I'm aware, there's much more to the food though. I'll definitely be back.

Award winning for a reason folks. It might be expensive but if you love sushi you will not go wrong here!! It's a very small and intimate space but, cozy. If it's more than you and your spouse I'd suggest making reservations. You'll love it here! Great food, great atmosphere, the best sushi in town hands down!!

Excellent sushi just north of Indianapolis. The outside is a little rough but the inside is what you’d expect from a cozy Japanese restaurant. I had the Philly Roll and the New York Roll. I wish the New York role had a bit more shrimp on it but it was still delicious. The staff was very friendly and the service was quick!

Very good food and lots of it. Tempura Ice Cream excellent. We waited about 25 minutes to seat, 10 minutes for our order to be taken, 15 minutes for appetizers and another 20 for dinner. I have been there several times and have not been disappointed. Parking can be a bit of a struggle but not horrible.

We've been here twice now. It is not a quick experience. Make reservations if you can but even then still plan on it being an hour before getting your food. Sushi rolls are a good size. Service is nice and polite. Food taste is amazing! Portion sizes are enough to share!

Friendly service with good sushi 🍣, but we thought the noodle dish was average!
