On
a
Sunday
afternoon
after
leaving
church
services
I
decided
to
go
get
a
bite
to
eat.
Upon
being
seated
as
a
single
person
in
a
very
busy
restaurant,
before
I
even
sat
down,
the
waitress
looked
at
me
standing
right
in
front
of
me,
and
exclaimed
just
one
person!!
I
said
yes
I’m
dining
alone
by
choice.
I
politely
said
are
you
disappointed,
I
assure
you
I
am
easy
to
please,
I
told
her
I
don’t
eat
much,
I
am
polite,
and
I
tip
very
very
well.
She
took
my
drink
order,
Hot
tea
and
ice
water
and
trudged
away.
I
had
my
customary
small
meal
drank
nearly
the
entire
pot
of
green
tea
and
ask
for
my
check.
She
brought
back
my
check
and
started
turning
on
her
heel
to
walk
away
and
I
stopped
her
to
speak
to
her.
I
let
her
know
that
in
this
world
even
though
I
am
one
person
sitting
alone
enjoying
a
meal
it
is
by
choice.
I
told
her
what
if
my
husband
passed
away,
what
if
I
had
no
children
or
friends
to
accompany
me?
I
should
be
given
the
same
respect
as
anybody
else
whether
I’m
sitting
alone
as
a
single
person,
or
if
I
bring
six
people
with
me
walking
in
to
her
area.
I
know
this
was
rather
lengthy
but
hopefully
if
you
read
it
and
you’re
a
single
person
choosing
to
sit
alone
enjoying
a
lovely
meal
or
you
are
alone
because
you
have
lost
a
loved
one
and
you
have
no
companion
you
will
gently
remind
your
server
that
kindness
goes
along
way
whether
you’re
one
person
or
six
people
and
she’s
reliant
on
that
tip.
I
tipped
her
very
well
but
I
will
not
be
back.
By
choice.
