A very pleasant place to learn batik, there are many very beautiful batik paintings that we can buy. There is a coffee shop and a place to practice climbing with a background of batik paintings. This place is really cool.

We went for a cooking class and we came with an experience for life. Tatang and his family and friends made our experience amazing. This is part of a community project that is unique. We had also time to check a bit of Batik. Real experience how life can be without mass productions and chemicals. Highly recommended! Thank you Tatang ;-)

This is a traditional wax painting shop/class. Such a beautiful and quiet place, away from the busy streets from Yogyakarta. We were really lucky when we visited because it was just before they started the wax painting class so we went for it and it turned out to be so great! Lots of fun, people are so helpful and approachable and you get to keep your paining as a souvenir. Definitely recommend it!!

This place was recommended to me by a local I met while strolling through Jogja. Tatang and team care about educating visitors, showing the process of Batik methodolody and art, and are such pleasant human-beings to have great conversations with. I spent half my day there, going through the gallery, trying out Batik myself, talking to the people. I learned a lot that day and I will keep the place and experience in my heart :)

My wife and I joined for a batik lesson. Hanung and his colleagues were very welcoming, providing an informative and enjoyable lesson in this artistic craft. We both made batik patterns via wax coatings, and the artists helped with the coloring and layering. It was a truly memorable experience, highly recommend!

The batik gallery, which has a batik making workshop, also provides a coffee shop for visitors.

Unfortunately, we got there too late for the classes and workshops , but the owner still showes us his arts and was really nice to us. He didn't even tell us he had a coffy place behind the art shop to force us to go there nor pushed us to buy anything which we appreciated after some places in the centre of Yogyakarta. Instead, we found the coffee after a walk in the village by chance, and we had a great time with him, we talked coffee, how he's making it, batik art, it was a real pleasant moment. We missed the workshops, but from the 30 minutes we spent talking to him having coffee, I'm sure they must be amazingly interesting. BTW the coffee was awesome of course and really cheap for such quality (20k). I couldn't recommend more this place.

Such an amazing art gallery for batik! We did a beginner’s class to make our own batik design. It was amazing to learn the process and get creative. Everyone in the gallery was very supportive and took a lot of time to explain everything and to guide us. The coffee there was also amazing! Definitely come here and experience real batik!

The team at Leksa Ganesha are incredibly open and generous with their time, my parents and I happened upon their cooking & batik classes which ended up some of our favourite experiences while in Jogja. Cooking class involved a great village tour with detailed explanation of their circular and collective economy & how the village independently organised and supported one another through the pandemic - plus learning about all the different fruits, veges and herbs and what they are used for, and catching our own fish for lunch! Batik class was a highlight, the teachers are very patient and encouraged our creative experimentation. We enjoyed Merapi coffee, different painting and dyeing techniques, and heard about how they produce natural dyes and recycle all elements of production. Tembi is very special, they also have ecoprint workshops, batik pottery glazing, many homestays and lovely places to eat. Thank you Mas Hanung & the team for a wonderful 2 days.

A super fun experience, we did the cooking workshop and a walkabout through the kampung. Good english, great food, and the sambal came separate from the food, which meant we could control the spicyness. Thanks so much for the hospitality, and the very affordable and knowledgeable workshop

We had a great time during the cooking course! Leksa Ganesh is situated only a 15-20 minute car ride away from the centre of Yogjakarta. Hanung took us for a walk around the village, told us a lot about the local herbs and took us fishing. Every step of preparing the meal was explained carefully in perfect English and the food was delicious. Overal a great experience that I would recommend to everyone that wants to experience the Javanese culture a bit more!

Amazing experience. If you’re in Yogya, this should be at the top of your to do list!, 100% recommend! There’s a gallery at the front where traditional wax painting are sold for very reasonable prices. At the back is the art studio and cafe. We just turned up unannounced at around 2pm and were lucky to go straight into an art class, where we learnt about the history of this cultural art technique. Took about 2/3 hours and the price was a steal for the quality of the experience (can’t remember exact price) We first observed several worker in action, then practiced to get used to the technique and specialised equipment, and finally did our own painting from start to finish. You choose to sketch your own painting or select from their many pre-sketched paintings (We chose the latter as we wanted to focus on the wax pen technique and there designs were beautiful) All the workers and experts were happy, friendly, informative and funny. We even got talking to the manager, who gave us lots of great recommendations and contacts for activities in Indonesia. So glad we did because they turned out to be some of the best tours we went on in south east Asia!
