Den Kongelige Afstøbningssamling, also known as The Royal Cast Collection, is a museum located in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is part of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and houses a large collection of plaster casts of sculptures from around the world, as well as a number of original works of art. The museum was founded in 1819 as a way for artists and students to study and replicate important works of art from history. Today, the collection contains over 5,000 casts of sculptures from ancient times to the modern era, including famous works such as the Venus de Milo, Michelangelo's David, and Rodin's The Thinker. In addition to the plaster casts, the museum also has a collection of original works of art, including sculptures, paintings, and drawings. These pieces were acquired over time by the Academy and are used for study and research by students and scholars. The Royal Cast Collection is open to the public and is a popular destination for art enthusiasts and students of art history. Visitors can explore the museum's extensive collection and learn about the history and techniques of sculpture and casting.

Amazing place! It's three floors with plaster copies of most beautiful and famous sculptures of old times. Very interesting to observe this collection. This museum is a diamond for them, who enjoys seeing and drawing sculptures and busts. I bet you had never seen so many busts in one place :)))

On the way to the Mermaid, we observe this wonderful building of red bricks and the extraordinary statues outside.

One of the last surviving cast collections, not quite like at the V&A London but still impressive!

A beautiful cast collection which is rarely open, so check the opening hours at The Royal Cast Collection site at SMK.

One of the most important cast collections in the world, which extends over 3 floors with about 2500 plaster casts from antiquity, the middle ages and renaissance. Unfortunately, the collection is only open for special events. If you get the chance to visit the Royal Cast Collection, take it. It´s really worth a visit!!!
