Great park with very friendly volunteers! It's a nice place to relax, and there are a lot of walking trails to venture out on. There's also a bike trail right outside the gate that heads into town. The restrooms are very clean, the park is clean and it's not unusual to see a few deer! There are only a couple of drawbacks that aren't bad - as long as you know about them. First one...weekend war games - the park is very close to a base that has a lot of loud booms from weekend practices. If someone has PTSD, and they don't know that this activity is going on, it could cause them some agony. The restrooms at Turkey Hill are not handicap accessible. The trails to get to the restrooms are very sandy and make mobility a bit difficult if you have walking or stability issues. The showers and toilet stalls are not accessible with a wheelchair. The other restrooms may be ADA compliant, I didn't check them out. All in all, it's a great park that I'd visit again. We were there for about 14 days. Lots of great local restaurants in town.

It is a beautiful State Park with lots to do. Cost to enter is $5 to spend the day. There is a couple lakes and a swimming area, multiple trails, picnic tables, cabins to rent, RV and primitive campsites. The trail loop I did was extremely flat and easy at .75 miles. I visited in winter and it was not busy at all. Hardly anyone was there (the campgrounds had a decent amount of folks, though.) I would recommend for any easy day hike experience.

Great time at our Couples Campout! Spent 3 nights here. Nice walking trails. Clean bathhouse and good customer service. Spot number 34 is the best for large groups! But they also have a group camping area. We didn't know that before booking. But had a great time!

Very good state park, but wish there were more trails. In order to get to the lake you have to ride or walk on the road which has no shade and is hot during the summer. The ravine is highly recommended to go see. We even had a turtle come onto our campsite and lay eggs, which was an awesome experience! Great time and very nice camp sites!!

This is an awesome park!!! There are small and big camping spaces I would suggest site 31 or 32 These sites are super close to restrooms and spacious They are a bit close together but everyone does their own thing They have water and electricity I was told sites 50-60 did not have water or electricity but please double check this The bathrooms where clean except a few bugs which is understandable Do not leave the park without exploring around there is many things to do like walk the lake trails and enter the small swimming hole There is also a stairway that leads to a small stream and the sights are beautiful There are very beautiful cabins that you can reserve if camping is not for you I hope this review clarifies many questions😃

Camped over the Christmas holiday with my family (it was my first time ever camping) and it was wonderful! My sister and I got a lovely little cabin on the lake. It's a beautiful State Park, very serene and HUGE! Several trails. We got to see a family of deer on our Christmas hike. Be sure to visit "Florida's Grand Canyon." Wasn't there long enough to soak it all in because we literally got soaked everyday, still enjoyed it though. Highly recommend this place. They give you a gate code if you want to stay out after hours. Check out the swamp thing when you go lol.

We had our first cabin stay here. A clean and well-maintained cabin with nice lake views is such a treat! Hope to go back to finish all the trails. We enjoyed our walk around the lakes.

We stayed in the last cabin and had a great 4 days of fun! Lots of deer and lakes. Not much fishing but awesome place to roam. Cabins are nice and come loaded with whats needed for the most part. Nice ravine where spring starts out of hillside.

Absolutely beautiful state park. They have everything from small tent sites to huge pull thru sites plus cute little cabins to rent. The hiking trails are well maintained. The park f rangers are super friendly and helpful. And maybe the mosquitos are just picky at this park, but I didn't get bit by a single one! This park is a definite 10 out of 10. The only thing I would suggest is to bring an extra long hose for your camper. The power is right where you expect it to be. But the water hookup was completely on the other side of the site I was at.

Campsites 68-70 are the big winners at this State Park. They overlook a breathtaking view of the big lake on property, full of wildlife and gorgeous sunrises. The park itself has all the amenities to make the average glamper happy, and the "tent only" sites are secluded enough to make the hardy campers feel as if they are roughing it! Fishing is almost impossible, but if no one is at the swimming beach, I found good luck casting in there. Overall a wonderful park!

This State Park is VERY CLEAN, The roads are paved and the campsites are large and well placed. The only negative is they don't offer full hook-ups, just water and electricity. ... Some sites you'll need an extension cord. The bathrooms and showers are clean and well maintained. There is abundance of wildlife. Deers will just look at you and go about their business. Very friendly staff. They are welcoming and helpful. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this State Park

Great place for camping! Our campsite was huge and clean. Not too many people out here right now but it is the end of July so it's maybe because it's so hot right now. We rented a canoe and caught a few fish, 2 Bass and 1 Bream. There are lots of deer and squirrels, plus gators out there too. I didn't see any gators though, but they're there.

Absolutely beautiful campground and state park. This place was full of happy and healthy wildlife. We saw our first gopher tortoise here, which was awesome. Lots of great hiking as well and large campsites. We hope to be back someday! Follow our full time travel journey through state and national parks on Instagram: @arndts.arent.staying.put

It's a good park of old Florida. There are some hiking trails. The lakes are dried up, like most in town. It's a big problem here. So don't bring your kayaks but bring your bikes. We stayed at site 68 by the lake. Lots of families but it was quiet at night. The site isn't level & you'll need 2 water hoses to reach the water spicket.

Don’t know what more you could ask for. This place is serene, beautiful, plenty of roads for wheel-based sports, beautiful hiking on the Ravine trail, spring creeks, adequate bathrooms that are kept clean, and just an all around great old Florida experience. Lakeview loops has a treacherous leg that bigger rigs may not be able to navigate. Avoid site 71 (trailhead) and 73 (clear cut for overhead power lines).

A nice Campground and a pretty good swimming hole at the lake. The Rangers and other staff members were very nice we have made 5 trips there. We try to get sites 71-73 for the fantastic view and room for our 17ft travel trailer.

This place is special. One of my favorite Florida State Parks. Campground loops are all really nice with plenty of room. Swimming area is small but nice with cool water. The gold head branch is in a beautiful ravine with massive tree canopy. You definitely want to bring bikes as there are tons of places to ride. Morning and evening wildlife comes alive. In one weekend we saw a fox squirrel, tons of bats, a bald eagle, packs of deer, a bobcat, and an amazing firefly light show. Fireflies are thickest near the mill site and loblolly loop trail.

I have been at this park as a camp host for a little over a month. This is an amazing park for so many reasons. Wildlife is amazing. The rangers and staff are top-notch. So much to do. Hikes. Camping. Canoe rentals. It is such a hidden gem. It's so worth the visit.

Beautiful park. Our RV site had water, electric (30 amp), fire ring and picnic table. The staff was friendly and helpful. The site was clean. Restrooms were clean and close by. Easy walk to the lake. Xfinity (Verizon) cell only had one bar. Luckily our RV has a Winegard Connect with a T-Mobile sim card and 5 bars, so we had internet. We go 18 over the air channels on the TV.

Been camping and having parties here for years. Love it!! You have a lake to swim and fish in and plenty of trails to hike. The pavilions are inexpensive to rent and you get to keep them all day.

We stayed April 2023 with Class C camper and tow. Beautiful state park that also has rental cabins. Our site (#56) was spacious with shade. We took one day to drive into St. Augustine for sightseeing, about 1-1/2 hours, depending on traffic.

We really enjoy camping at Gold Head. We usually reserve for a week. The park is very nice, with a lake with a small beach, walking trails, kayaking. The bathrooms are clean and the staff are all friendly.

The personnel were friendly and efficient. The overall park seems to do the best it can for being in a typical central Florida "palmettos and pine trees" flatland. Not particularly picturesque. No problems with RV hookups. However, the ADA cabin we stayed in was at once incredibly beautiful inside as well as exceptionally challenging. There appear to be 2 extra large cabins that sleep up to 10 but have only 1 bathroom. They chose to make those the ADA cabins. Poor choice. They sit farther back from the parking space than the smaller cabins which requires a long walk on an unlighted sidewalk in the dark. The only actual parking space is a single handicapped space which we could not use since we didn't have a placard (I'm quite disabled but it's not obvious and have resisted fighting for a placard). There are the requisite grab bars and an expensive smoke alarm and emergency lighting system. But the front door is a French door and the latches are broken so, even though it locks, it can be easily pulled open or pushed in by wildlife, etc. The size and storage in the one bathroom was more than sufficient for just the 2 of us but would not be for more guests. In my view, small cabins with carports would be much more disability friendly. A single bathroom would not be a problem if the cabin only slept 2. Any more and it needs 2 bathrooms. Disabled people come with a lot of extra medications and supplies to cope with their disabilities and thus need the larger bathrooms.

Amazing hidden gem right outside Jacksonville. However do keep in mind the park doesn’t have much shade in some spots so I recommend going around 4-5PM.

This place was awesome. I loved the tranquility. I loved the experience of nature. I loved the little springs. Saw deer and birds. The cabin was cozy (a little musty at first). A rejuvenating experience for me.

In an obscure location lies this large state park. There are five lakes, several camping loops, lots of picnic tables, Pavillions, plenty of clean restrooms, trails, and a playground. One of the lakes is open for swimming. It's well-maintained. One of the interesting paryd of Gold Head is the very deep ravine.

  • 4/5 Jamie P. 7 months ago on Google
Nice park, decent size campsites, lots of friendly wildlife, the swimming hole was nice but not at all accessible by wheelchair, it is down a steep hill from the parking lot

  • 4/5 Jonathan S. 3 years ago on Google
Great place to take the family camping or to do a little fishing or hiking. It's not very big. As they only have about 7.5 miles of trails to hike but it's very pretty and natural. Most of if not all of the campsites have water and access to a toilet. There are fire pits at all the campsites. The lake isnt huge but it's big enough you can enjoy kayaking and or fishing on it for a couple hours. There are some shallow ponds to the east side of the camp sites that look pretty fishy also. Might make a good kayak adventure if they have enough water in them. Check out the historical side of gold head while you're there. Its pretty cool.

We camped here over Thanksgiving week. The site was the biggest camp site we have had in all of our camping experiences. The sites are separated from each other and offer great privacy. The trails are enjoyable to hike on. We had a great time and plan to return.

Worst camp site I have ever been to. Ant mounds everywhere. Loud drunks at all hours of the night. Power went out, which wasn't their fault, but they could have at least come fix the issue for their paying customers so we could use the facilities and shower. It was literally just a flip of a switch to fix. Not to mention them selling fresh, wet wood that was impossible to light.

  • 3/5 Signal M. 3 years ago on Google
Would love to give this place 5 stars, but I can't. The great things: beautiful terrain, friendly staff, beautiful campsites, quiet. However, the bathrooms were not sanitary. Raw sewage was flowing into the bathroom and no action was taken to fix. The issue may be isolated, however in the post COVID environment, that condition is unacceptable.

We were in campsite #4 in the sandhill section. Really nice location. You don't get privacy but the view of the surrounding area is great. This place has amazing trails and we even saw some deer by the restroom a few hours after dark. Otherwise, it seems rare to see animals besides birds. Second time camping at this park. They sell firewood $6 a bundle and they don't give out change so be prepared. If you love to hike and camp you will enjoy yourself.

Had a wonderful weekend primitive camping (in the section with electric and water hookup, so not truley primitive) but had a wonderful time! The sites are big enough to spread out, has brush between sites to help keep privacy between camper, and easy path to the outhouse. Was super fun hiking the trails with he dogs.

It's just ok as a state park. The rv sites sit on sandy ground and when it rains you are walking in mud around your site. It would be nice if they could have gravel sites like a lot of other state parks.

It's pretty, as far as Florida goes. Saw wild turkeys, deer, and turtles. Some lots are paved, some are packed sand and rock. The signage in the Lakeview campsites is a little confusing and I got hung up on a tree. Bathrooms were big and clean, with showers, a washer and dryer, and a baby change station. Big picnic area with a playground, sand volleyball court, and playground for kids. Ranger Carlos was awesome! Super helpful, calm, and nice. However, the ranger manager and one of the ladies at the ranger station were pretty rude. The lake looks more like a little swamp area so I didn't try fishing.
