A great day out from Rio de Janeiro Rodoviaria Novo Rio. Simply take the BRT train from Cinelandia as it takes you directly there. Coach service a/c pkus toilet facilities on board is reasonably priced takes you to Petropolis Rodoviaria where you catch bus 100 at other end of station. Will leave 5 minutes walk from Palace. You are not allowed to take pictures inside main palace plus have to wear protective one size slippers so as you shuffle on wooden floors you feel you are polishing wood along the route. Informative but sadly mostly in Portuguese with the odd english or french translation. They have to improve on this front however worth a visit as the town is very pleasent and with other options of sights and places to visit. Allow a full day to relax and enjoy most sights.

(Translated by Google) I love this place! It is always incredible to revisit. For those who want to know how it is working during the pandemic: the museum is closed. Only the shop, the carriage place and the Bistro are working. The visitor has access to the garden, but cannot remove the mask at any time. (Original) Eu amo esse lugar! É sempre incrível revisitar. (Translated by Google) It's not just for those who like history! I think it is fundamental for the formation of the Brazilian citizen, to face the history of Brazil, realistically. It's an incredible journey through time! An invaluable value for everything that is there, step by step, naked we find fragments of royalty, with all the glamor that that word translates. The book being read through objects, clothing, furniture, etc ... an opportunity, unique, and extremely valuable. If you can one day, don't think twice!

Great museum, it is sad that you cannot take pictures inside. They give you these funny shoe covers which are nice. The gift shop crazy expensive 😂. Really! A magnet costs 45 reals.

Museum in Petropolis built during the reign of the last Brazilian emperor Pedro II. Fascinating insight to the imperial family of Brazil, lots of paintings of the emperor, empress and their two daughters. Anyone interested in the 19th century history of Brazil should find this enjoyable. It is worth doing some research on Internet beforehand. My doing so made it more interesting for me. It is not possible to take photos inside. Part of a day trip to Petroplois from Rio de Janiero.

The place doesn’t hold many interesting items. They basically preserved the house where the royal Portuguese family used to live. I visited this museum 4 years ago and there were the jewels of the crown and other jewelry at display, as well as some beautiful swords. All of those displays were, for no apparent reason, covered with brown paper. And some other rooms that used to hold some gorgeous antiques have been turned into boring exhibitions of pictures hanging from the ceiling. Very disappointing. One positive thing now is that you pay less money to visit the place (R$ 10).

Hello sudits,This is our emperors museum. It used to host and cool our Brazillian nobility long time ago.Summer down there in RIO,Brazil is extremely hot with it´s beaches. So,the emperor decided to build this castle for them to shelter while summer very high on the hills, with freezing temperature in the winter and only one hour driving from Rio,their oficial residences and palaces. The whole Petrópolis town developed by their residences and castle. Was built sanctuaries, and many more castles and architectures for the other members of the emperors family. It worths your visit,we normally visited there at weekends, always having lots of fun with the requirements and free time of our emperor back them like libraries, european architecture, many castles for his family and made Brazillian economy run from there,at his summer coolness and rest. Today,Petrópolis is a touristic town, all run by this sector of our economy. It´s obeyed for the kids and schools visiting and knowing our past and history. All in Petrópolis have this mood of tourism and visiting. There are many enterprises and economies but somehow they are part of visits and guides and all at beer factories, clothes tradition and even the farms are second place for our emperors palace and city built for his cool summers here at the tropics. The principal attractions are for sure the huge nobility that owned this country centuries ago, their huge castles, diamond crowns and all the nobility and most cultured workers following the emperor at his summer and coolness. Quitandinha is one example of respect and necessaire our emperors culture and economy. Is a huge hotel, just like a castle, but built much later following his patterns and today hosting a museum just by the city entrance and showing much different the Rio with this huge construction never seen from many visitors. I think one week is enough for you to know all,see the many hotels built for this ancient history and be in the past with queens, kings, princes and all the royal family at that epoque. Good visit!

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful place, with a beautiful garden and stores many items from the imperial era, with emphasis on the locomotive that went up from Rio to Petrópolis even in the times of the Emperor, a sample of how the country was developing and had a look to the future until the end of the monarchy: today you don't travel anywhere by train in Brazil. A highlight from there is the light and sound show that takes place on weekends at night, it is very worth it! Wonderful peak in the lives of the Brazilian imperial family through the lens of their summer retreat in the mountains above Rio. Don't expect a Schoenbrunn or Fontainebleau, but in the context of historic sites from the 19th century in Latin America (and especially Brazil) it is an absolute marvel. And, of course, the imperial crown is one of the most important things on display.

Former home of Emperor Dom Pedro ll, his collection has the most diverse pieces related to the Brazilian monarchy. In the Museum, we can find beautiful works of art, personal objects of the Imperial family, carriages, trains etc. In addition, the Museum also has a vast garden for walking and enjoying nature. Reasonably interesting, but could do better in telling the story of the royal family and the house. Nice set up but needs context. Recommended but could be outstanding with a bit of polish.

Very enjoyable small museum of Brazilian history in what was the summer palace for the Emperor. Includes the imperial crown, bedrooms, and some nice paintings of old Rio. Good value at R$10.

The museum is pretty good, garden is cleaned and flowery.

It is a quite impressive museum, specially for those who like history. They have a place for you to keep your begs. It is not allowed to enter with any bag and it is not allowed to take pictures inside of the main museum (only outside in the gardens and in the carriage garage). You are also not allowed to walk with your own shoes there, they give you some slippers to put on top of your shoes, which makes a bit hard to walk around. The gardens are really pretty and worth having a walk around. The downside is when it is raining, there's no way to get from a building to the other without getting wet. I would totally recommend visiting on a good weather day.

We did a tour with Lais Tammela, who we found on local guide. She really made this place come alive! It is a very cool museum - and most the signs are in English. It is free on Wednesdays. No bags allowed inside - not even fanny pack.

It is worth visiting. Tickets R$ 10,00 full price and R$ 5,00 for students, teachers and elderly. They only accept cash. The place is beautiful and very well preserved
