Wonderful place to visit, see an amazing variety of fruits, and grab some food. Just be careful, the stand in the picture tried to charge me almost 500 real for less than a kilo of fruit I didn't ask for. They were very nice and gave us samples of many different fruits, but when I asked for 100G of strawberries and also of dates, they loaded me up with a Kilo of various things and tried to make me pay a massively inflated cost for them.

Interesting place to visit while in São Paulo! Lots of fruit, meat, cheese stalls. The second level has about 5-10 restaurants. It’s very colorful, busy & has a variety of scents in the air because of all the meat, fish, cheeses sold there. Like most places in São Paulo - it would be helpful to know a few phrases in Portuguese before going there cause not many people speak anything else. It’s located in a very busy area. We were told to take care of our phones by our Uber driver who dropped us there. We tried the famous mortadella sandwich at Bar Do Mane and it was really good especially with the house sauces, but my favorite dish was the croquette de carne seca - it tasted like deep fried & seasoned corn beef.

Good place to visit when you visit Sao Paulo. Huge types of fruits. You 'most likely' to see some kinds of fruits that you have never seen before.

I'm pretty sure this place is a tourist trap. Way overpriced and you can easily find items in a regular grocery store sold here for cheaper. Very disappointed. Lots of free samples though.

A very large and beautiful market with lots to see. If you're visiting, there are lots of unique local items to purchase here. I loved seeing all the hand made items that were being made there. There are great restaurants on the second floor as well. The mortadella sandwiches are an absolute must try! They are heavy but extremely delicious.

Home of the world famous Mortadela Sandwich from São Paulo, best in town. Of course, you'll find a wide range of products, from fruits, vegetables, cold cuts, cheese, coffee, etc, etc. Lots of places to eat at the first floor, but I strongly recommend going to the mezzanine, not only a much nicer environment (away from the hustle and bustle of ground floor) but I believe the table service is way better as well as the food. Surroundings are not what I would call the safest place on earth, so be careful in and out of the market.

The site does not follow cleaning protocols (especially due to the Covid 19 pandemic). Salespeople don't wear masks, and they are veritable parasites. If you try a fruit that they offer you, you will be chased until you buy the product. The values are above normal (in fairs the values are three times cheaper). The snack is OK, but there could be more identity in the food. The number of people passing by is huge, and the virus is hidden more. My recommendation is that you look for fruits at fairs, and make your own snack. The place has no infrastructure!

Great place to visit! Big advices. Do not accept the fruits or anything they offer you. People will try to trick you. Just say no. They have a very traditional sandwich made of processed meat that is in the picture. This sandwich is insane! You will get very full!

Loved how beautiful the food looks, the building has great features too. Too bad you get the feeling you have to excuse yourself if you don't want to try the products from every other stand. I can imagine some people like to sample everything, but I don't feel comfortable. The famous sandwich is great, but a bit too much meat, but hey that's the typical Brazilian style!

Buzzing market surrounded by more stands outside. Very busy over the weekend. Upstairs you’ll find many restaurants offering Brazilian food. Most places will offer you fresh fruit to try, dried cod and cervesas.

It's a nice looking old market building but unfortunately there are a lot of scam fruit stalls inside using aggressive sales tactics, we were charged R$159 (£25.92) for 1kg of fruit. When they approach you ignore them and just keep walking. Also the surrounding area is very sketchy, we had walked from Mosteiro de São Bento, then when we left the market, walked to Pinacoteca de São Paulo near Luz station. All of that journey felt unsafe. I don't think it's worth the visit but if you do decide to go definitely take an Uber directly there and then back again to a safer area.

Nice market but the vendors will try to rip you off if your are a foreigner. They tried to charge me $20 for two mangoes.

Good but busy place to try out traditional Brazilian food and drinks. Definitely try the Mortadela pictured below. Tourists should be aware of their surroundings because of pickpockets. Some of the vendors can be pushy but that's just the market life.

I don't know why this place is so special. it is just regular market people go to buy food and drink. it is like farmer's market vibe. there are bunch of restaurants inside the market but i don't see anything special about these restaurants. market itself is very crowed. if you are tourist, you might want to do quick walk around, but this is not place you want to spend most of day on.

This is an interesting building and has lots of places to grab a drink or a bite to eat. Plus you can wander a round the stalls and look at all the cheese 🧀😆

It was exactly as expected, especially after reading all the reviews. The fruit vendors are a little aggressive, but they there was one nice one that just wanted us to taste things that seem like. We went upstairs to Mortadella Brazil, and absolutely loved our sandwich.

Awesome place to visit. Lots of cold cuts, cheese, bacalhau, fruits and much more goodies to buy. Huge sandwiches, pastéis and several other dishes. Worthwhile to visit. While visiting we stopped by Hocca Bar and had some yummy food and drinks.

This was a great place to try local food and see a stunning building with great stained glass windows. The restaurants have excellent sandwiches and you can easily find a table upstairs if you’re looking to have a seat. The fruit is overpriced and the fruit vendors are pretty aggressive. We managed it by trying some samples and instead of buying at the inflated prices, we simply gave them some money. That seemed to work and everybody won. :)

The Mercado Municipal de São Paulo is a vibrant marketplace known for its diverse array of fresh produce, spices, and local specialties. Among its culinary highlights, the mortadella sandwiches are a must-try. The generous portions of savory mortadella, coupled with the market's lively atmosphere, create a delightful gastronomic experience that captures the essence of São Paulo's food culture.

It's a nice place with interesting and exotic food. But be careful about the vendors. They will give you free fruit and entice you to take a lot. When you get to the register to pay, they'll show you that everything is extremely expensive and they will pressure you to pay a lot because you already ate some fruit... I ended up paying 50USD for 6 fruits...

What an amazing experience this market was, I got to drink fresh juice and taste the most delicious and amazing fruit there was before I bought some to take home. The shop packed it so well that I could even travel with it back home! What an amazing place!

Very nice market! We have bought so many exotic tropical fruits here! The cheese and ham sandwich is also extremely famous here and you should try if you visit!

  • 4/5 Anaman S. 4 years ago on Google
The home to very special dishes, the market is really a busy area of town and has everything you might need. It’s housed by quite a nice building from history. Don’t let the locals trick you into tasting dishes or fruits before asking the price or paying! They might force you to pay higher than its real price when you’re done eating or tasting. Tip: ask the price first.

Incredible place to walk around. Just watch out for the people that really push their product on you. They are obnoxious when you say no.

  • 3/5 Adam D. 4 years ago on Google
Cool market to take photos, but all the true market qualities are gone. It’s only tourists now and you’ll get harassed by fruit salesman trying to sell kiwi fruit for $7 USD each. Make sure you try their free fruit samples, but don’t buy any of it! There is a wonderful fruit market just down the road and it’s 1/10 of the price.

Lot of stuff to buy ... Fruits, food, nuts, coffee, beer. The market is in a nice stylish building. Worth visiting if you have long time in Sao Paulo.

This is a public market with a lot of fruit shops, fresh and dry meat and sandwich shops. There are more restaurant quick byte stall on the top floor. The vendors are bit pushy don't be intimidated, keep walking and stroll around . Stop by this market for a quick bite if you are around the area. But not worth to keep it part of your tour plan. The place is neat, good restrooms, cab availability right outside but we opted Uber.

The biggest market I’ve ever seen. They have every fruit that you could ever need 😩😩😩. This market had like the most amount of nuts I've seen in a small place. It's like a zoo for markets. The sellers will try to Coerce you to taste stuff or buy stuff. But overall it's an amazing place in a slightly dodgy area - it was definitely a highlight of my trip to São Paulo.

Classic spot in SP downtown, very expensive once you inside the market, you can have a meal inside the market and they have many options to choose from and also lots of butchers, fish shops, spices and cheese Shops, liquor many other fancy stuff it's a safe place to visit but it's right in the middle of everything so all kinds of people are around there, just watch your mobile or wallet cause people around the market made stilling your Stuff an art form, you'll only realise you've been robbed later. And around the market is very interesting too its another experience it self.

The largest city in South America SAO PAULO with the biggest and busiest markt place. Very diverse lots of friendly people and also a lot not so friendly but definitely a place u need to check out when visiting sao paulo’ just be very careful around these parts because of all the poverty around the markt. But overall a very nice and big place if you want to see the sao paulo live in action!! Visit the market !!!

A place with real character and vibe, just ignore the merchants hassling you to buy and keep moving through the aisles of shops offering a great array of fruits, spices, fish cheese and cured meats. Be sure to try the famous pastel or mortadella sandwiches available upstairs and wash it all down with an ice cold chopp.

a nice place to visit and go upstairs for cod fish dumplings and deep fried pastry. Just be careful with the surrounds outside the Municipal Market.

Very dangerous and a lot of people only watching your belongings ! I went a restaurant and I tried a mozzarella baguette and was delicious but it was very big and I didn’t finish it.

An incredible experience to visit - the traders were friendly, the prices are fair, and the food is delicious. It's also a great place to hang out, especially on the first floor overlooking the market aisles.
