The atmosphere was fantastic, we enjoyed a great selection of pizzas and platters. The food was excellent, though the service was a bit slow, with drinks taking a while to arrive. The staff was very friendly, and while the prices were slightly high, they were still reasonable. Parking was somewhat limited, with street parking as the main option. It was a bit uncomfortable having personal sellers approach us throughout the evening, though this may have been due to the event taking place. Overall, it was a great experience, and we would visit again. Music selection was also amazing.

This restaurant gives you all the vibes you need to escape from the norms of society. Try and find one thing thats normal in this restaurant, not even their menu is normal, however offer the best food you can find, they often change the look and feel of the restaurant to keep you on your toes with a new and unique look every month or so. The staff is friendly, the parking and car guards are fantastic and the food is totally affordable. Amazing place, well done to Railwaps, and thank you 😊

NB: INFO ABOUT COMPULSORY GRATUITY BELOW. Located in an odd collection of buildings which includes the retired Irene Post Office (complete with it's blue post boxes!), this eccentric eatery is an Experience. A cacophony of recycled & repurposed decor makes the place an adventure to explore. Great vibes, with regular live music on the weekends. This past weekend was the second time we visited Railways in about a 6week span. The food was superb & reasonably priced for what you were getting. Their rectangular pizzas are a definite must! The drinks were generous enough for the cost, and didn't taste watered down, with a good selection to pick from. BUT. The restaurant includes a compulsory 10% gratuity on all bills. This used to be the norm for tables of 6 or more, but we were a low demands party of 4. Gratuity should be optional and based on the service received. We always tip a MINIMUM of 10% for good service, so in principle we do not have a problem with this practice. What we DID take issue with is that our waitron expected an ADDITIONAL 10% on top of the gratuity-included-total, saying that the gratuity on the bill was "wages"(?). I am not sure if this is due to tips not being paid out to staff by the restaurant OR if the waitron was purposefully trying to mislead us. Either option isn't great, and will probably make me think twice about visiting this establishment in future.

One of the best local gems in town and we visit regularly! If you find yourself in Irene, Railways is simply a must visit. From the moment you walk in through the front entrance, it's a feast for the eyes and senses with so much to look at in every nook and cranny. The live music over weekends also creates a vibe and makes you feel like you're not even in Gauteng, but rather somewhere with a beach on your doorstep. The food and drinks are also fantastic, with my personal favourite meal being the Nachos But Mine pizza 🤌 There's something for everyone, young and old. Even the kids will have a blast when visiting during the daytime, exploring the venue and enjoying the Kids Corner play area. From romantic dates to a night out with friends and family, do yourself a favour and stop by.

The food was very delicious. We build our own platter to share which was well worth the price we paid. The place does need some interior work and care but the food made up for that 😀

If you ever, and I mean ever want to explore, and really just have the most fun, you have to try this place. The vibe is off the charts, the food is truly stunning and I swear it's just the most fun I've had in ages. The pizzas are crazy, the steak is pure perfection, I'm just so in love with this place.

Been back for a visit after quite a while. Atmosphere still same as always. They have gotten rid of all the individual almost hidden tables (if you know you know) which is quite sad. We visited for brunch on a Saturday. Drinks came relatively quickly. Would never order a cocktail from them again. But the milkshakes are out if this world. Did a food order. 90min later we had to ask the waiter if there's anything available as an appetizer as we already came hungry. She recommends a pizza which came in 10 min. 2 hours later our initial mains haven't yet arrived and we had to cancle and asked for the bill. Over all, great place. Service could be better. The pizza was great, rest of the food and the chocolate cake I wanted for desert I cannot comment on. Will probably be back one day... not in any rush though.

This place has been on my want to go places for a while now, and we were in the area and decided to finally visit. There's a few small novelty shops on your way in and around the restaurant paired together with deco that's made up of everyday things (very cool touch). My favorite was the bicycle water feature. There's lots of seating to choose from, including ones in a sandpit, one closer to the live music and some further away. We didn't struggle to find space when we arrived, but the restaurant quickly filled up. We got our drinks, a virgin mango daiquiri, and white chocolate and mango milkshake (the milkshake was so absolutely divine!). They have an extensive range of alcoholic beverages. For mains, we built our own platter. (Yes, we LOVE food). It included ribs, potato salad, chicken wings, jalapeño poppers, and two sauces (the kitchen also made a mistake a added chicken stripes on our platter which we didn't order but we decided to keep it). The food was PLENTY, to say the least. The chicken stripes were a little dry, and I didn't understand the jalapeño poppers but it didn't taste all that bad, and the potato salad wasn't anything spectacular. Everything else on the platter was amazing, seasoned well, and cooked to perfection. On a weekend there's live music which is always a nice touch to any establishment and this one didn't disappoint. Overall, we had a chilled time, filled with good drinks, good food, and good entertainment.
