After reading the reviews online before staying I thought "it can't be that bad". It was, it really really was. Desk staff made you feel like you were an inconvenience. The place is filthy and in a state of disrepair. When we opened the room there were a lot of flies in the room and the smell was bad. From the look of the plug, the sink had never been cleaned. Shared bathrooms and shower rooms on each floor that needed cleaning and maintaining. I've stayed in £10 per night hostels in better condition than this hole. Having said that, for a bed to sleep in Central London at the last minute, this may be suitable if you don't mind spending the money. Just make sure you take antibacterial wipes 👍

Where do I start? I have never in my life stayed in such a hole! The staff were helpful but my god it was filthy and disgusting. There were stains on the wall some of which looked like blood! (I wish I was kidding) it felt quite unsafe and kind of like a crime scene. The bedroom doors had a lot of damage like they had been kicked in various places. The building itself was bizarre and all the corridor walls were clad in wood panels it felt like you were on a boat and not in a building 😅 the shared bathrooms were just vile toilets blocked and floor dirty. In the room if you can call it a room the carpets were torn and dirty and the furniture tatty and dated. The curtains were filthy and had what looked like white paint splattered on them. The only thing this place had going for it was the location but if you value cleanliness and quite frankly your life then DO NOT stay here.

Absolutely disgraceful, even for the price. No proper duvet, thin curtains if you can even class them as curtains, dirt, broken and missing items, dirty bathroom and noisy bathroom. I do NOT recommend and definitely won’t be going again, I didn’t even stay the night in the end. I have also complained to booking.com as the pictures they are using to advertise the property does not reflect the rooms in person. Unfortunately I can’t upload all of the pictures and videos I took of the room to show how bad it was.

The location is wonderful and the staff really helpful. However the rooms let it down. They are adequately sized, but basically furnished with no sockets near the beds for charging my phone. The single curtains don't fully cover the windows; perhaps a full pair at each window would be better. No tea/coffee in rooms, no breakfast, but luckily lots of food options nearby. The exceeding dark bathroom, with plenty of hot water, was in desperate need of a proper clean and a revamp. Would I return? Probably not.

Booked two rooms through work and we didn't even stay, Splashes of fluids up the walls , stains on the pillow cases ,mould in the shower. The place stinks of damp and that was confirmed when they tried to get us to switch rooms and the walls were damp in the "better" one ! A utterly horrible experience given the location of this hotel. Needs a huge cash investment to bring this up to even hostel standards .

Don’t let all the negative reviews scare you off. This is a really cheap hotel and you get what you pay for but it’s clean it’s safe and it’s in an amazing location. It is outdated so don’t expect an amazing resort for a holiday but if you need an affordable place to stay near the centre of London then this place is perfect. So close to Soho, plenty of shops and restaurants close by and really friendly staff.

Rooms were not like the website. We booked late on a Friday evening. We were shown to the Annexe which was another building. I didn't realise a 2 star hotel in London would be as bad. My son wouldn't stay so we left immediately and booked another hotel. Refund refused. Lesson learned

The place is desperate in need of a reform. The staff on check-in was super helpful. Very nice guy! The room assigned was tiny for a couple and the ENTIRE ROOM WAS STINKING OF CIGARETTE!🤢🤢🤢 On the reception the staff understood my problem and showed me another room. In this one there was no bad smell but there was molding developing on the ceiling. After that, i decide to get out of there as fast as possible. No wonders the place doesn't have refunds policy, otherwise will be broken for now. 😒

We had a few nights booked here for a birthday trip and as soon as we saw the room, I think we both could’ve had an emotional breakdown. It smelt awful, there was rubbish in the bin and on the floor, an empty beer can in the window and the door looked like it had been broken into at some point and it wouldn’t lock or even close properly. We were considering our options. Did we stay here and sleep with the bed against the door to stop people coming in the night? We decided to complain. We were told we couldn’t have a refund and were just given another room. It was just as bad and had a mould problem. So we had to complain again, which is where it all started. While we were waiting in reception, we weren’t the only ones who were there to complain and I saw other guests complaining about all sorts of other issues. Anyway, we ended up staying somewhere else. We had to pay for the first night and were told we’d get a “cheque”. The staff were so rude. They walked away downstairs rather than talk to us about the problem. They told us to come back the next day for the cheque, which we did. They then threatened to ring the police if we didn’t leave. All the time, the gentleman that dealt with us had this smirk across his face. We were in touch with the booking provider the whole time who tried to help us. They rang the hotel and he was just as rude to them. We ended up receiving a refund through Booking.com because the hotel just wasn’t helpful at all, but Booking.com were excellent. I can’t fault them. We thought it was all over and tried to make the most of the trip we had planned. A few days after returning from London and Gresham Hotel took the money from my bank account again, for the full weekend even though we didn’t stay there a single night. It took over 6 months to resolve this issue. Back and forth through the bank and the hotel, Gresham were providing “evidence” which was just handwritten notes from them. They insisted that they had never taken the money but there was concrete proof on our bank statements that they had. It took so long to get this issue sorted and to get a full refund for all the trouble, which was supposed to be a nice weekend in London. I regret ever stepping foot in this place and it caused so much misery. Please avoid this place at all costs. It’s not worth the trouble. Wish I could give it 0 stars.

I'm afraid this place was pretty grim, and I've stayed in some really dodgy hotels. When I arrived they had no record of my booking and seemed to question its existence, despite my showing them my email confirmation on my phone. They eventually assigned me a room was actually bigger than some cheap-digs I've stayed in around Bloomsbury in Central London, but it was incredibly hot and the traffic out the window was really loud all night. It was clean enough, but very run down. No toiletries, just some watered down hand soap by the sink. Wifi didn't work. There was some sort of grit in my bed. However I quite liked the firm pillow. Shared bathroom was tired but clean enough with loo roll provided. At check out, I went downstairs and there was no one at the front desk. Waited for a while, was running late for a meeting at that point, several other people also waiting so I just put my key on the empty chair behind the desk. Very odd indeed. Overall, for £60 a night I've stayed in much better budget hotels in the area. Left feeling ripped off, I'm afraid.

Very Low budget place. No facilities available to get a coffee or tea in the morning. Noisy room. Bed was iron to squeaked ever time you moved. There was a kettle but nothing else to make drink. Only socket was on the floor so would have had to step over boiling kettle, if it worked. Another light had electric wires hanging out. What was leaking from the already towel covered pipe can only be imagined A truly horrible experience

Great location, but inside it feels like it was decorated last in the early 80's. TV was broken, beds creaked with every breath, shared toilets had their wooden cladding peeling away. Power socket not sealed properly. Would not stay again.

The reviews do this place a disservice The bed is extremely well-kept and comfortable. Check in was friendly and fast, room temperature is great. Tons of storage in the room & the room was large Noise could be a problem. Bring earplugs Highly recommended if you want somewhere cheap & central to stay the night while transiting.

Probably should be 2.5/5 Cleaner than I thought, shared bathrooms were always clean when I was there Bedroom was clean but it was so dated some things just look dirty when they are clean. bed was uncomfortable Location is amazing but the price is not worth it for what you get But when hostals want £40 for a dorm bed you can see why these charge these prices, rip off London for ya I just used it to literally just sleep and shower in for 2 nights so did its job for me.

You certainly get what you are paying for. Cleaners were 2 young men who left makeup wipes under a pillow and the sheets had hair all over them. The hallways were constantly littered with cigarette butts and other random objects. I would say it’s worth the money, it’s cheap and convenient. Room also had a great view 👍🏼

The room was really fun to play around in and sleep, we stayed awake until midnight and didnt wake up anyone, not even the person next door to us. However, the hotel in general was really good, a clean toilet but the bathroom was small, comfy beds and pillows but they can squeek a lot, there are some gaps to improve on but overall, a good hotel to stay in.

We are staying here for two nights for a show, because all our usual hotels were fully booked. It's OK, but the room is basic and lacking in enough power sockets (only 2) and having a kettle but no tea or coffee or cups! The bathroom looks fine and the bed should be OK. The location is excellent, a stone's throw from the British Museum. But it's expensive, and we're really paying for the location. One additional issue is that you have to ring a doorbell to get in, which doesn't inspire confidence.

Take on your own risk!! It's a place to stay for one night if you have no other option available at a relatively good price. We were looking for a place in the centre, so we could easily get to the main destinations on foot - so, regarding the location, it's good, but that's only that. BUT!! the photos you may see posted are better, unlike when you get to the place and see the actual situation. Stuff was quite polite!

There is nothing positive about this place. Just because it's in a good location doesn't mean anything. They should be ashamed of themselves for charging as much as they do. -READ THE FINE PRINT- - a TV but no cable -shared bathroom isn't close to room -shower is on a completely different floor going thru public area -i was put in a horrendous room in a basemet. - Everyone else checking in received upstairs rooms. I was the ONLY person in the basement. If there was someone to report this hotel too, I would. This was unacceptable.

I had a deeply unpleasant experience with Gresham Hotel Bloomsbury. When I faced a booking issue and tried to adjust my dates, the hotel staff responded in a manner that was unacceptably unprofessional and rude. They repeatedly declined my requests without a reasonable explanation and their tone was disrespectful. In multiple instances, they didn't respond to calls, and even hung up the phone during our conversations. Such behavior is discourteous and far below the standard of customer service one would expect from any establishment in the hospitality industry. This experience has made me uncomfortable and regretful of my decision to book with them. I strongly advise potential guests to consider other options.

It’s very much a hotel where you get what you pay for. It’s certainly nothing special, but somewhat acceptable to lay your head down overnight, as long as that’s all that you’re doing. Slightly unnerving to see the PAT stickers out of date, but our room was generally okay and the gentleman working there was lovely enough.

An OK place to sleep, but staff (at least the second day, not the first) were rude and unhelpful. Also the room itself was very old and uncared for. Smelled weird. That said, I did sleep well. You decide!

What do you expect for £44 August Bank Holiday Weekend? Other than pride you got such a bargain? I expected exactly what I got. A budget hotel right next to bustling Soho. Would stay again at that price!!

Honestly I would rather let a tramp sit on my face then stay here again, not clean feels like I've been bitten by bed bugs just unhygienic. STAY FAR AWAY! 0 stars don't waste your money.

  • 2/5 Arkle B. 2 years ago on Google
Ok in an emergency. They really need to hire a couple of carpet cleaners. I'm sure that would help the "funky & unplesant smell". Has the chance to be an ok budget place.

No warm water, loud all night, receptionist or whatever it is at the call phone is useless ask anything they will reply positive but then you get nothing , batbroom really tiny had hard time fitting it, only come here as it was needed room asap for the night really not worth spending money on type of hotel, 1 star expensive , over priced for tjat kind of rooms they got receptionist at useless point, poor place not RECOMMENDED WASTE OF MONEY for same amount money could get better place

Pros: Location, has a roof to keep out rain. Cons: Smelly damp hotel, dirty floors, walls with holes in them, no internet, no drinking water, grimy sink, seemingly one hairdryer to share between entire hotel, 10£ fee just to leave your bag behind reception a few hours before check-in, incredibly sqeaky beds, insufficient towels, lack of bed covers, no shampoo, shared toilet the size of a matchbox, bedroom doors that don't lock correct. Price should be a pro, but the hotel was that bad that I think any money spent here would be regretted. I know I do. This is not a hotel, more like a very run down hostel. Guest beware.

Perfect if you want to visit London because its close to most important touristic places. No more then 30 minutes by walk. Lovely staff, we could check in 1h before actual time, very helpfull. Clean, quiet and very comfortable bed.

This is not the Ritz but at a very good price I had a warm, quiet and comfortable room in a central London. One day hotels like this will be sold and redeveloped and you won't be able to stay in London for less than £200. Enjoy the value while you can!

Besides the location and friendly staff. This place didnt have much to offer. The rooms were dark ans loomy, the heaters were off the whole night.

Affordable, clean, friendly staff, location also good. If you planning to visit London within a less budget, I would prefer Gresham

One star is already too much, thank God I didn't get to stay in this place since the employees are rude. Who hungs up on a customer ?! Well they do and that is unacceptable ! When trying to explain that my train was cancelled the day before my departure and that it wasn't my fault that i had to cancel my reservation, the employee just hung up. When your hotel looks as bad as this one does, the least you can do is be nice to customers.

Without a doubt the worst place I’ve ever stayed. This room was not what was booked. We had our room cancelled by the hotel last minute and offered this as a alternative.

  • 3/5 Rachel Charles M. 1 year ago on Google
Very much a budget experience. Not particularly clean, 2 badly positionned wall sockets, only 1 towel each. Little bar of soap each, no shower gel, no bag in bin. Walls and ceiling thin as paper. We were on the ground floor of the "annex"....we could hear people in the room above talking and walking and...everything else too. Didn't feel very safe, with very old room lock. Great location though.

It was absolutely horrible. It was dirty stinky and the bed sheets were yellow and had a blood stain on it. There is a leaky sink in your room with water that doesn’t even come out. You have to share a bathroom the size of a shoebox, the door doesn’t even close and it is so dirty. The carpets are green but also brown. There is this unique smell that just lingers everywhere. Don’t stay there!
