Very interesting catacombs located underneath a cathedral in Naples' suburbs. It will take you around 30 minutes to reach it from the centre. The entrance fee is €7 and it includes a tour guide. The tour takes around 50 minutes. You will have to wait for a round hour in order for a tour to start. However, there weren't any bones, skulls or bodies which was a bit disappointing for me. But overall it was a great sight!

+ fantastic tour guides; interesting content; interesting site. - group size I enjoyed this historical site the most of all my visits in Naples. There are two catacombs, this is situated lower down in the landscape of Naples, both outside the historical city wall. The site was until fairly recently buried in mud. Since being uncovered, it was vandalised a bit before becoming part of its current project. There is a fascinating history behind this place. The staff were attentive and open about what they did and didn’t know about the site. The guid we had, a young lady with curly hair, was friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. The only downside was the size of my group- at times it did feel like we were too big a of a group for the size of a particular chamber or room. A must see.

Super interesting to learn about the significance of those catacombs. I don’t remember our tour guides name but he said he was giving tours since he was 18 and now he’s 34. He was very knowledgeable about everything and it gave me more appreciation for that part of Naples.

First, it’s nice & cool down in the catacombs, it’s so cheap to visit, the guides are good and the history is fascinating. Your ticket to one catacombs site also gets you into the other catacombs site and the cemetery. You also walk through the opulent basilica (church) and see where you can stand over the catacombs. And, you will learn of the continuing work always going on to discover more artifacts and solve more mysteries. A MUST DO in Naples! Buy your ticket online ahead of time so you get your choice of time & language on the tour.

The catacombs are full of history and the guider was phenomenal! He was really into the story and dig us into the depths of these ancient history mysteries. I started to feel a bit unwell on these catacombs but it has an interesting story behind them. Worth it!

Lovely experience with a great guide. With a ticket of 11 euro/ person we visited 2 catacombs, as they offer them together: with catacombs of san Gennaro. Nice guide and good English skills as she described and explained everything. The tour is around 1h in each place.

An amazing place to visit. I did love the Catacombs and the tour guider was very nice too. These Catacombs differ from the Catacombs of San Genaro. I would recommend visiting both.

Interesting place to visit, the guide was very passionate and the nativity is fabulous. The catacombs are nice and need to be visited. With the same ticket, you can also visit the catacombs of San Gennaro and take a discount for visiting other places. For sure a place to go if you are visiting Napoli.

We did this on a spur of the moment decision and it was worth it. The tour is about an hour and is guided in English and Italian. The guide was very friendly and well spoken for only having learned English three months prior. He was able to answer most of the questions and the ones he didn't know the answer to were very technical. The catacombs themselves were very macabre and interesting. You can still see fragments of skulls and various bones mounted in the walls. The details of the burials are also very interesting.

As others have said the tour is really worth doing and our guide was great. It was also great to hear what a difference the catacombs are making to the local community, great work!

Very interesting tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke great English. It was so interesting to hear the stories about the catacombs and experience bring there in the flesh! The only thing I'd say to improve this experience/tour would be to allow us to go back into the church we walked through to allow more photo opportunities of the stunning architecture.

Stepping into the Catacombe di San Gaudioso is like taking a journey back in time. Located in the heart of Naples, these catacombs offer a hauntingly beautiful glimpse into the city's rich history and early Christian burial traditions. The preserved frescoes, intricate mosaics, and solemn ambiance create an atmosphere that's both poignant and fascinating. A visit here provides a unique perspective on Neapolitan culture and the passage of time, leaving visitors with a sense of reverence and wonder. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply seeking a deeper understanding of Naples' past, the Catacombe di San Gaudioso is a must-visit.

Very interesting experience! The staff is super friendly and the tour guides explain everything very well. You can always also ask. The tickets are valid for both catacombs: San Genaro and San Gaudioso, so you can see both for the same price. It is definitely worth it.

A must see in Naples. Excellent guided tour and blew my mind! Tour guide extremely knowledgeable and answered questions. Tip: your entry is good for both area catacombs. Gift shop sells small booklet for more background info. Some details of the older altar and the newer one were included. We also saw a really interesting Nativity Scene that’s a modern day installment. Very interesting story there but didn’t get any pics.

I visited Catacombe di San Gaudioso in Naples and it was an incredible journey into the underground world! These catacombs have a unique atmosphere with their eerie tunnels and ancient tombs. The guided tour was informative, shedding light on the history and significance of this burial site. What made my visit even better was that I purchased tickets for Catacombe di San Gaudioso, and to my surprise, those same tickets also granted me access to Catacombe di San Gennaro! It was like getting two amazing experiences in one. Exploring the different styles of burial chambers and learning about the lives of the early Christians was truly fascinating.

We had an amazing time exploring the catacombs! We went on a Saturday at 11am, it wasn’t too busy and our tour group started fairly quick. The staff were lovely and knowledgeable, the tickets also gain you access into the other catacomb and is valid for a year. The catacombs themselves were astonishing, it felt surreal being there. Definitely a must do if visiting Naples!

Super interesting old, forgotten and found again catacombs. I recommend the combination with the San Gennaro catacombs, we could use the same ticket for both catacombs plus tour. Two amazing catacombs with tour for one fair price.

In a combi ticket, the catacombs and basicilia in santé are as well included (with a tour). Just not missing the start time of the ticket. As we were late, we couldn't have the tour at gaudioso :/ (all other slots were booked and sold out)

A spectacular experience! Our tour guide (Eduardo? I think) was extremely knowledgeable and gave us an amazing insight into the history of these Catacombe. We paid €21 for 2 tickets and the tour lasts an hour. If you are in Naples this is a must.

Absolutely creepy and exciting place! A must see, it was one of the most enjoyable places to visit in Naples despite the fact of ot being a place of gruesome burials. The guide was very engaging as he told us the story and curiosities of this unique place.

We had an amazing tour guide, she was exceptional with her knowledge and was keen to answer any questions that we had! The place is well kept. And she also explained at the end of our tour, that us paying for the ticket and purchasing anything in the district goes towards a charity to help people. Would recommend to anyone in the area to visit!

You need to come at the right moment, otherwise you risk waiting for hours. The guide are very passionate and speak in detail about History of catacombs. The church is part of catacombs so not worth visiting it by itself. I do NOT recommend visiting both catacombs, san gaudioso and san gennaro. They are very similar

Even more special than San Gennaro in our opinion, the guide is great, perfect English and so many interesting informations. We came here right after San Gennaro catacombs and it felt better, though none of them is to be missed. Amazing Neapolitan history written in here!

  • 5/5 Myriam H. 9 months ago on Google
Visit was great. Our guide was a former history teacher: very knowledgeable and funny! We had a great time. One of the best thing to do in Naples to get to know more about the city history! Don't miss it!

Such an interesting place to visit! We loved the tour, it was not too long not to short. You get great explanations from the tour guides. The guides are all local so really cool to support the neighbourhood by visiting! You get to go to the other catacombs for free with your ticket. We loved the frescos in the catacombs, really unique.

When it is hot outside, it is always nice to get some cool breaks in the catacombs. The Catacombs di San Gaudioso are somehow special because of items displayed there. We booked tickets in advance but I guess there is rarely a waiting linge. The guide was super and able to answer all our questions. You can reach these catacombs by using the subway to the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli, walk to the north and on a huge bridge, take the elevator down to the road below. And across this elevator on the other side of the street, you will find it.

A must-visit when visiting Naples. You can learn a lot about the history of the district and city. Staff was friendly and welcoming. When you buy a ticket, you can visit this or any catacomb from the same company that runs it, all year round.

  • 4/5 Aleš P. 8 months ago on Google
If I have to choose between San Gennaro and San Gaudioso, the first one is definitely the better option. However, for the price of one, you can see the other for free, so it is worth seeing both, especially considering that the church in which they are located is something amazing.

Such a great experience! Our tour guide was so knowledgeable. You could tell how much the employees care about preserving their heritage throughout their community and visitors. Would definitely recommend to anyone. We paid student discount prices (6 euros I think) and the tour was in a small group format and so informative.

Total recommend this sights. You do not only get great information and awesome views, you are also supporting a young collective that works hard, to get the District in the right direction

  • 5/5 Frédéric S. 2 years ago on Google
Nice tour of catacombs, different than the other one in the city, San Gennaro. I actually preferred that one, mostly cause of the Balducci portraits around the skulls, which are impressive.

  • 3/5 Leonardo P. 2 years ago on Google
Interesting place, nice guide, but the woman at the ticket office is kind of rude... maybe they should try to improve customer service especially if they try to represent a good cause

Great experience. Very good guides. Also refreshing during hot days in the city :)

  • 5/5 Amanda K. 2 years ago on Google
Really interesting visit. The ticket includes a guided tour organised by a cooperative that seeks to involve young Napolitans in their culture heritage and provide work. Our guide Luca was great. The catacombs are really interesting, very different from those in Rome these were used by nobles in the 17th century who decorated their burial places with frescoes and their own skulls!!! Including the artist Giovanni Balducci. Learning about the draining of the corpses was macabre!! Ticket also includes a visit to San Gennaro - the other catacombs nearby (which are very different) two for the price of one!!

  • 4/5 Raquel 2 years ago on Google
The tour was 45 minutes and we expected a bit more from it, considering the price as well. Our guide seemed to be following a script, so the visit felt less special. There are some things that are worth seeing for sure, but maybe there are better things to do in Napoli (maybe... 😅).

After visiting both San Gaudioso and San Gennaro catacombs, I highly recommend the former due to the atmosphere, non-commercial approach and guide Luca, who made our visit an interesting journey. Must-see place in Naples

Tour with english or italian speaking guide starts every hour. Guide is included in the ticket and it makes tour very ineresting and worth the time. Also by going there you support local people who take care of the catacombs. If you have some time I would recommend you go there as for one ticket you can enter two catacombes.

Beautiful, amazing tour guide and noble project in a difficult neighborhood.

  • 5/5 Petr S. 2 years ago on Google
Entrance to the catacombs is directly from the beautiful church. A very interesting place, especially the tombs of a noble with painted skeletons or nics, where draining rituals were done. One ticket is valid for Gaudioso Catacombs and for Gennaro Catacombs as well.

Unique place. Worth to see and support.

  • 5/5 Wolfgang A. 2 years ago on Google
Very kind staff, the tours are run by a cooperative and the rewards go back into the neighborhood. The story of the catacombs, the paintings, the background information on the practices… all is very interesting. Make sure you understand the location .. it is not on the main road towards Capodimonte, but at a lower part of the city. There is an elevator that connects the bridge on the main road and the neighborhood.

Fantastic. Verry good guiding and a verry intressting place. We had to wear facemask? On prebooking its cost 11€. Entrence under the bridge.

  • 5/5 Tristan.V 1 year ago on Google
Spectacular! This was the first catacomb that I've ever visited in my life. It was amazing to visit and there is a lot pf history behind this. The guide spoke very clear and loud enough so that everyone was able to understand what she was saying. The entrance cost us €32.00 for four people (2 adults, 2 children) which is really cheap, you also get free access to the other catacomb (1 year valid after purchase). Another note: I wasn't aware of this when I visited this catacomb first but when I visited the other one, the guide informed us about their company "catacombedinapoli" and why it was so precious for them. He said that they started doing tours when they were teens and kept going until now he said he is about 40 years now. That is just amazing and I wanted to spread his message via this review, please visit the catacombes when you have the chance to do so. English tours are done every hour. Definitely recommend visiting the catacombes.
