Very underrated place to visit. Only 2€ per ticket, you get to visit a small museum and go into the arena. Not just around the arena, but underneath where all the slaves and animals would have been kept. Every time I've been here it's been almost completely empty. Very different from the busy colliseum in Rome.

The history behind these impressing remains is fascinating. Services are on site, so it seems are the restoration works. Small awesome gladiators' museum. The site is really worth an investment for maintenance.

Great to see a monument in history still standing. Some of the marble was still in tact which was amazing and a testament to how well they're keeping up with the place.

One of the most interesting sites in Italy, replete with history, only €2.50 to enter and often practically empty of people. This is the second-largest amphitheater in Italy (the Colosseum in Rome is larger), and there is some evidence that this is the FIRST and oldest of all known Roman amphitheaters. This is the site of the first Roman gladiator school and also the place where Spartacus began his famous “slave revolt” against the Roman Republic. The site also allows access to the “basement” of the amphitheater, which is very interesting and expansive. 4 stars because the “museum” on site is two small rooms with a few artifacts on display, and the only information available is very limited and in Italian only.

Awesome experience. Firstly the best way to get to Santa Maria Capua is by train from Naples, then you buy your €2.5 ticket at the entrance (yes they take card) and then you walk around. It takes about an hour and you can go underneath it and around half of it, you cannot go inside like the colloseum. It's incredible but you've got to use more of your imagination. It would have been cool to go inside it and I think certain parts were closed when I was there. One key thing, it's not the Spartacus arena, it's built about 100 years after those events but the arena he fought at is on your left as you walk towards it, albeit there's literally only a few foundations left. Still insanely awesome though but only if you're a history fan

For us it was very impressive! We can really recommend investing this 3.50 euro entrance fee. Hardly any or no visitors, which was good for us as we used the quiet in the corridors to get a feel for the time around Spartacus. It was really great!

    Beautiful amphitheater

I liked that you can walk pretty much anywhere in the ruins. Decent parking in the area around it and the cafe was great, reasonably priced drinks and tickets for only 2.50 euro. I will definitely be taking my friends that visit to this place.

Admission is €3.50 per person and currently includes the exterior, underground, gladiator museum on site, and admission to the Museo Archeologico Antica Capua (a 10 minute-ish walk away). Currently the floor is undergoing restoration and is not open to the public. There are no signs around the site, and all the information in the Gladiator Museum is written in Italian. Interesting to see, especially since it's quite uncrowded and you can wander at your own pace.

Spartacus fought here. Not in the arena that is still standing, but in a much smaller one next to it, of which only the foundations remain because the materials were used to build the new one. Still awesome to be able to walk among the ruins of the arena where such history took place.

After seeing this place I've made a new goal to see all of the amphitheatures on the list. It was awesome. I will be bringing everyone I know to see it and since I'm living in Caserta it will be alot of people. It was amazing.

We really enjoyed it here. It was not crowded and they are working on the place right now but you can still see everything inside and outside. Our favorite part was going underground and walking around its a really cool feeling. They have a very nice, looks like its new bathroom on site which was nice for our kids to use.

Hidden treasure of Italy. Enjoyed a friendly private tour with a professional guide who was knowledgeable about Archeology and gladiators (Spartacus). Great view of underneath an arena!

I give 5 stars despite the dirt and neglect of the place as well as the city because the place is truly impressive. However, I think that the Romans spent less time building it 2000 years ago than today's Capuans spent cutting the grass...

Too bad it found it closed. The staff, however, is really kind

The second largest amphitheater in the world which retains much of its former glory. I give three stars for the now endless work inside which does not allow it to be viewed in its entirety

You can get here using the train. Make sure you buy a return ticket as no booth at the station. Great cafe on site but much was restricted due to matainence. A little disappointing as we travefrom Naples.

Fortunately, we knew ahead of time that much of the inside of the area would not be accessible due to restoration. That curbed our disappointment. Still, seeing this ancient building was magnificent. Even better, on this hot, balmy day, touring the underground area had the added benefit of being nice and cool. The architecture above and below ground is truly impressive. The broken pieces of columns, the detailed designs. It is difficult to imagine just how spectacular this place was brand new. If there was any reason to have a time machine, going back to see it in the 1st century would be one.

It's an amazing Roman amphitheater. Walking underground was quite an experience. The state of conservation is excellent. I missed seeing a Spartacus statue, picture, or painting on site, though. The bookstore selection was not good.

The museum is too simple, and almost no information. The amphitheater is great; especially the underground part.

Fantastic place to visit, almost as amazing as the one in Rome

Awsome experience!! Huge Spartacus fan, and this place is perfect for a bucket list visit. The history of Spartacus and one of the first gladiator arenas in Romes history!

The closures will last for a few more years. Here, what can still be saved is dug up and preserved. Incredible stories about Hannibal and Spartacus. Absolutely worth seeing, especially the catacombs, with a little imagination. 2.50 euros entry.

This is the second largest coliseum in Italy. There are parts that are undergoing renovations, so a person doesn't get to see the whole thing, but it's still worth it.

Shameful, the garden around is nice but the site is available only in the morning because of lack of staff. Such a disappoing and annoying event.

First Italy experience! Absolutely loved it! Like the colosseum but way more personal, no crowds, being able to wander around freely! So cool!

It's unbelievable to hear that I can't enter and visit the place because there's lack of staff: the last tour was at 13:30, and this demonstrates how they are not smart at all since all the tourists would come later. Not even the shop is available to buy something, but the restaurant (IN THE SAME BUILDING) is open. Be ashamed of yourself.

Interesting even if it is being renovated. The dungeons are a spectacle

Rellay great place to visit. Unfortunately, there is much more that could be done for this archaeological site. Not enough information is shared, most has to be researched by one own initiative.

Great place, you can walk in the whole underground area. Specially nice if you have watched Spartacus TV show, this was the arena of Capua! It is easy to park for free in front of the main entrance.
