Beautiful museum! It is free to enter, and it wasn't busy at all. The García Ponce exhibits were really nice, I really enjoy his work. I also loved the variety of pieces from other artists, and especially liked seeing a Diego Rivera painting. This is such a great museum, I will definitely be back!

Very nice art museum in the very heart of the historical center. Unlike other museums is also open on Monday. Free of charge. The exhibitions change regularly. You might expect to spend an hour there, or more if you are a slow-walker like me. There’s also quite a strong AC, better bring some light sweater.

No longer free: $60MXN per adult, $20MXN per child. A nice museum, beautiful space, but is undergoing renovation so limited art work on display. Loved the sculpture garden near the entrance.

This place is no longer free. Peaking in, we thought we’d spend our pesos on paletas instead. The Camino de Flores outside in the covered breezeway, which is free, was excellent. Do check it out!

This is a great museum and it’s free! There are wonderful exhibits about local artists and the art is very new from 2019-2020, some older pieces too. Very little information in English but still wonderful pieces to get lost in.

To enter the museum you have to walk through an emblematic passage where we were welcomed with live violin music, which made even more pleasant. The museum is attractive colonial building with a lot of different spaces and in door patio, and beautiful artwork of 3 native artist Fernando Garcia Ponce, Fernando Castro Pacheco y Gabriel Ramirez Aznar as well as some other invited artists.

Entrance is 40 pesos for locals and 60 pesos for foreigners, unfortunately the descriptions of artworks are only in Spanish. There are two floors not entirely fully used for exhibitions but it looked like some parts are still under construction.

Overall the museum is nice you can spend minimum half an hour there. Sadly I didn’t like the art there. If you like the art you can spend definitely more time there. Locals and residents get a ticket discount.

Don't let the boarded up windows and the chain link fencing around the facade fool you, the museum is open, albeit partially. Access entrance is within the large passage way next to the cathedral. Only one permanent exhibit by one artist, covering four or five large rooms. There's also some good sculpture pieces around. There is a major renovation going on, so it might take a few more years until it's all completed.

Some good work, especially in the sculpture section, but most of the paintings are poor. Several rooms are wasted on one abstract artist who evidently has no eye for composition or craft, but such is the state of much modern art these days. Sixty pesos entrance fee for foreigners, forty for locals.

Free/donation based contemporary art museum in the center of Merida in a beautiful historic building. It took a visit here & to Nahualli House Artists (also in Merida) for me to be inspired by modern sculpture.

Free museum worth a short visit to. There was only 1 exhibit open when I went which was a little sad but it was a good 20 min break from Centro.

Interesting art BUT a very strange young man (~24) followed us around. At first we thought he might just be a guard (though he wasn't acting or wearing anything remotely like one). After he appeared completely uninterested in the art and just kept watching us, we became more suspicious and looked directly at him. He then literally tried to hide behind a pillar. This was pretty nerve-wracking because there's only one guard outside all of the exhibitions and it didn't look like there were cameras around, so it definitely felt a bit unsafe (though I am of athletic build, who knows whether they have a weapon or whether they're of a sound state of mind - guessing no to the latter part!). He then left when another lady arrived and we thought that was the end of it. However, when we left in the direction of the plaza principal, he again continued following us. I immediately stopped dead to see what he would do - he then awkwardly avoided us and continued ahead then sat around the corner in front of the cathedral, glancing our way every so often. There weren't any police around so we just waited there for a bit to see if one would turn up. After ~5 minutes, we still couldn't see one so when a tour bus came, we just decided to jump on it. The bus took a couple of minutes to load up, during which time he just waited and it looked like he was trying to figure out if we were still on the bus/where. I took a couple of photos of him (attached). When we left, he head in the direction of the gallery again. The entire event was very strange and I'm really not sure what to do about it. There is absolutely no doubt that he was watching and following us. I know the museum takes a record of IDs when entering so if you are from the museum, I would implore you to check who entered alone today (17th June 2021) between 3:30pm and 3:45pm (we think he probably left ~3:45-3:50). As I said, he literally took no interest in the art and who's to know what might have happened if we hadn't spotted him and made our getaway. If anyone else has any advice, please let us know. We don't really want to waste the police's time with it now as it could be he just has some mental issues, though the behaviour was very much off and the art gallery should really be aware of this and take measures against this happening in future.

Nice museum. Just to note the entrance fee for foreigners is 60 pesos. It is free for people from Yucatan and I think 20 or 30 pesos for Mexicans from other regions. Enjoy!
