At the top of a hill, these ruins offer a great 30 mins of strolling around the walls, awesome views, and the chance to either buy a drink or something to eat in the Cafe, or to take your own picnic. A cooking breeze is always present. Free car parking. Downside is that there is a lot of rubbish around the place, including lots of broken glass from beer bottles.

We actually went because we wanted to see the city of Izmir from the top of the Mount. The area is not well maintained, which is a shame it could be a great spot for some small Cafés along the outside streets and people could sit for hours looking over the city. Instead, you see broken glass everywhere, uncut grass, broke railings etc. If I was Turkish and from Izmir I would be embarrassed. That being said I still would recommend going up by bus, it's quite a ride. We then walked downhill through some of the neighborhood to a bus stop to go elsewhere. The area is quite poor and if this castle was actually cared for it could provide much needed economic development. There was just us and maybe 6 other people. I hope the local government jumps in and really makes this spot a tourist spot. It could be amazing. I hope my review helps other to try out the spot if fir anything the amazing view of the city of Izmir and the Gulf of Izmir.

Views are amazing!! Not much to do but to walk around and enjoy the view. I would absolutely stay away from that area at night, it doesn't look like a safe area, but that is just my perception of course. Coming from Latam country, you kind of have the 6th sense for shady areas 😊

Tons of garbage. Lots of beggar kids in the fortress and on the outskirts. Walls and view are nice, but the place gives you that feeling of sadness that you get when you see people that are struggling and can’t be helped.

Nice place but I gave it a single star because it’s a wonderful piece of history filled with garbage and plastic waste just like almost every other place in the country. Make an effort to be better please.

Amazing view of top of Izmir, its super difficult hike haha if you choose by foot

Terrible. Don't bother going up there. Badly managed, difficult to get to, trash and junk everywhere. No places to sit that aren't overgrown with weeds or surrounded by junk. The view from the road is better than the castle. The area is run down, poor, and has a mean feel to it.

Great views over İzmir and bay, remains of ancient castle and some walls, but not protected by government from destruction. Recommend to visit it, free entrance. Btw you can also inspect izmir's slum near for some contrast...

Not much to do here. No entrance fee and hence not well maintained. However it is still beautiful and the view is amazing. Nice to go up and chill at the castle, maybe have a picnic too.

Great historical place in the center of the city. From towers you can see the whole Izmir around from above. Very calm and silent. People say it is dangerous region so dont go here at dark or go by taxi up to the top at once.

Stopped here while passing through Izmir. An incredible place with lots of history. However, it has not been well preserved and much of it is gone besides one wall and gate. That is interesting but there is not much to see as most of it is blocked. It does seem they are excavating other areas but those are not yet open. Much of the history of the castle is not presented.

You can see the fantastic view of İzmir from top. It is a nice place but it is better to go there in daylight. The neighboorhood may be a bit dangerous after evening

Exceeded my expectation. A must visit to see full birds eye view of izmir. Very nice place. We went just before sunset and stayed till night and got some amazing view

Disappointing not much to see, part of the outer walls are still standing but not much else. Found a barber near the entrance who was very skillful with a straight razor, enjoyed the shave. 3btraveler

Only a part of the walls and a cistern remained from the fortress. Unfortunately, you cannot go down into the cistern - the entrance is closed. Good views of the city from different sides.

Perfect point to get a nice view over the city. Unfortunately, it is dirty all over the place. Residents there also complained to us that the city government does not take this historic place under control and manage it. Otherwise, the area can be improved a lot as a nice touristic place.
