The market is located in the former cigar factory established by French-born millionaire Ernesto (Ernest) Pugibet who made his fortunes in Mexico in the XIXth century. You can still see the inscription on the corner façade of the building, "Compania Cigarrera Mexicana"; it is even located on the street bearing the company's founder's name, Calle Ernesto Pugibet. The market is known for its gourmet and "exotic" products, and offers tons of different meats, charcuterie, cheeses, fish, seafood and produce. Many vendors offers snacks, sandwiches, and beverages at the tables positioned outside. There is restroom in the back of the market, for a nominal fee of 5 peso (you get one square of toilet paper for that).

If you are more into groceries, you might want to visit Mercado Melchor Ocampo or, as locals call it, Mercado Medellín instead. If it is upscale groceries imported from Britain or the rest of Europe, you would like this market. If you're into exotic meats such as crocodile, wild boar, skunks, iguanas, and even lion meat, you will definitely like this place as it is the only one. No bald eagle pâté though, I have asked several times, so I am giving it four out of five stars. If you are a hard-core foodie, you may want to visit this place though.

Most do if you are in Mexico City - especially if you are looking to have a unique experience to enjoy quality cheese and wine and then explore some insect tasting. My only advice is to make sure you are not being offered endanger animals or insects 😥

I expected more food stalls vs. Grocery products and produce. Very clean. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh fish, beef and chicken. Many cheese stalls. Worth a stop just not what I expected.

Not that big. It's indoors. All 15-20ish small vendors sell food. Some sell prepared food/are small restaurants and the others vegetables, meat, etc. Unique spot sells bugs and scorpions to eat--try it! Also had excellent agua fresca (Cucumber, lime, mint)

A Mexican inspired market but with a European twist. Incredible food stalls with fresh produce, meats and seafood. You can dine directly from one of the many stalls. Worth a visiting when in the area. There even a Mezcal and Tequila stall where you can do a tasting tour and get a great education on both types of liquors. I will be posting in another review the tour I took along with the incredible seafood experience all from the same local market.

It’s a place to get gourmet produce and meal. I went here because my chef brought me and I didn’t know at first you could eat insects and scorpions inside. It’s a good experience to try in Mexico City.

Very nice market with many shops and bars. Its very focused on tourists who want to try some „crazy“ and exotic things, like scorpions dipped in chocolate, or grilled opposum etc. but you can also just get everything else you would expect from a market

The best market in Mexico City the place to go for all Chefs, Gourmets and Gourmands. From fresh, locally grown produce to quality imports of every type of food or species, cuts of all kind of meats, poultry, cheese, charcuterie, and fish truly an experience of colors, smells and tastes

Cool market with some absolutely delicious food. Avoid the butcher section and the seafood section if you faint seeing blood. I was in for a shock of how graphic it can get. But hey, it’s a market. I heard most meat was legal in here. Not sure what that exactly means but you should ask. Most folks speak English here. Don’t but the salsa, they will be confiscated at the airport lol. Mezcal tasting!

This is definitely a place where you have to forget morals, it's exotic food, some endangered species, some are farmed, but the experience is crazy!

One of the better, more organized mercados. I liked it, a lot. Incredible fruits and vegetables! A great place for a nibble or a refreshment, also. Tapas is served throughout. Super cute!

We were here on a tour from our cooking class chef. The chef Diana is on airbnb experience and has very in-depth knowledge of this market and seem to know everyone. We started at a coffee shop where we tried two different kind of coffee, and a concha bread. And then we moved to a vegetable stall where she explained to us the vegetables in mexican cuisine, and after that a fruit stall where we tried a bunch of the exotic fruits which we have never seen before. The next stall we tried different kinds of dried mole, a mezcal tasting and other ingredients. Highly recommend coming here with someone who knows this place to get the full experience.

Small but perfectly formed, this market is a one stop shop for quality fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, seafood and exotic products. Very friendly vendors- Juan Carlos and his son from La Catalana in the back offer delicious cheese and cold cuts at reasonable prices and some free samples thrown in! Nice tapas spot in the centre where the wine seems to never stop flowing. This place is a feast for the senses and a must see in CDMX.

I had a quick trip to Mexico City. During the trip this market caught my eye. There a handful of them scattered across the city. This is just the one I entered. It has all sorts of stands. The typical ones selling vegetables and fruits, along with some of the interesting ones selling spices, insects souvenirs. A handful of stands served food and drinks. Highly recommend to pass by ones of these get a quick look at the many street stands under one roof.

Expansive market, anything you could ever want is here. If you’re just visiting, or a foreigner it’s easy to get lost. 100% worth the visit.

Mercado San Juan is famously known for the exotic foods offered in its many stalls. Here you can find lion, zebra and crocodile meat sold alongside the regular market offerings IG chicken, pork and beef. If you are at all squeamish about knowing where your food comes from this is not the place for you. You will likely see rabbits and goats being skinned and prepped for sale. It can be a little tough and overwhelming. Now, if you are interested in bugs, grubs and all things creepy crawly and edible, this is the market to check out. You can get tarantulas, scorpions and so much more. There is a huge selection of regional delicacies especially from Oaxaca. Imma market fanatic and this is a great one.

Huge market where you can shop fruits, vegetables, spices, cheese and meat It's a local market so the prices are really good and affordable Cheaper than all supermarkets We also tried several types of chili from one of the local vendors

This market has a couple of food stalls, but they focus more on exotic food like bugs, spiders, etc. I didn't try but if it is something you want to try, go here; otherwise, you can skip. We try chilaquiles at a food stall and it's okay. Chilaquiles is like chips in a lot of salsa with onion, cheese, some type of cream, and protein, in this case beef. It is not too spicy, at least the salsa here. I think it's good because I like the texture of the soaked chips, but don't eat too slow because then it will be too soggy.

Cool food market with lots of options and restaurants to try. We had some fresh seafood at El Capricho which was nice. Recommend the tostadas and aguachiles. The fish ceviche was also a nice gift from the guys. We ordered sashimi as well but it was extremely thin slices and not good value. I would go back for the other plates though!

True Mexican breakfast and lunch dine in shacks. Inside a typical Mexican market, experience unique typical dishes with true flavors. All of the food is fresh and well prepared. 100% recommendable.

This market is a great place to buy all types of fresh foods. I especially noticed a large amount of fresh seafood and other meats also. There is some dining inside. You may also enjoy some tasting experiences of different bugs and insects if you are adventurous. Highly recommend to check this place out if you are in the area.

(Translated by Google) There is a lot of exotic food, both in insects and bugs, such as meats (crocodile, lion, tiger, zebra, etc.) also in seafood there is a lot of variety, as in fruits and vegetables, it is a place that has recently gained popularity for which gets quite crowded, but if you go an early weekend you will find everything very quiet, although there are also normal things, I would recommend that they are not people who are "sensitive" at heart or who are easily disgusted, if they like to try things New is highly recommended, the people are very cool and everything comes from certified farms, so if it is not easy to find a place to park, I recommend going by public transport or taxi (Original) Hay un montón de comida exóticas, tanto en insectos y bichos, como carnes (cocodrilo, león, tigre, cebra, etc) también en mariscos hay mucha variedad, al igual que en frutas y verduras, es un lugar que últimamente ha ganado popularidad por lo que se llena bastante, pero si vas un fin de semana temprano encontrarás todo muy tranquilo, aunque también hay cosas normales, yo recomendaría que no fueran personas que sean "sensibles" de corazón o que se asquen con facilidad, si les gusta probar cosas nuevas es muy recomendado, la gente es muy buena onda y todo viene de granjas certificadas, lo que si es que no es fácil encontrar lugar para estacionarse por lo que recomiendo ir en transporte público o taxi
