The Soul Food Bistro is a soul food restaurant located on Atlantic Blvd. The wait can be long and they are following COVID guidelines. Wear your mask! The food is cafeteria style, and there is dine-in seating available as well as takeout. They have everything from fried chicken, smothered pork chops, and even oxtails. They offer fresh vegetables also. The green beans are one of my favorites. Sometimes the smothered pork chops are hot, a bit too much black pepper. The chicken dressing was very sweet. I did not like it at all. The seafood salad was delicious. The peach cobbler is decent, but I don't really care for any of their desserts. Definitely my go to when I want soul food and don't have time to cook at home.

The Mac and cheese and yams were dry Af today and the time before that it was as well, but I just thought maybe it was an off day ( apparently not) horrible and bland not including the overcooked cornbread that wasn’t even a full slice because the bottom was missing. Also they are once again out of white meat.

OMG!!!! I was in Jacksonville (from Atlanta) working and saw this restaurant while I was out, and decided to give it a try. I saw several folks who looked like my family going in so I said “it must be good!”. I ordered the oxtails, Lima beans and fried cabbage with peach cobbler and WOW! The servings are huge! I can eat off this plate 3 times! The service was wonderful and the food is delicious! Tastes like home. I highly recommend this restaurant! 5 stars all around! 🥰

Friendliest service today! Food was on point. Even the Sweet Potato Pie took me back to my childhood days of Ms. Bertha's baking them fresh! Unfortunately the Mac n cheese was a miss today. Usually 100. It's been awhile since I last went here. In fact they were in a different location. Down there by Kernan Blvd. Anyway, I will be coming back and bringing my son with me. He loves their fried chicken.

Mask 100% required for this restaurant. Received a warm welcome when we arrived. I decided to try them out because their menu offered liver. Second choice was ox tail. They did not have any of those items so I did not order a meal. My family ordered spaghetti with broccoli (overcooked) , fried chicken with a tomato & cucumber salad and a carrot and raisin salad. My mom loves how it had a twist to the carrot salad. The portions are more than enough to share. For dessert we had peach cobbler. I have not had peach cobbler this good in years. The bread to peach ratio was on point. You will not be disappointed. I suggest calling ahead to see if their menu is accurate.

Low quality food + low quality service. My oxtail dinner was literally nothing but fat. The small amounts of meat were unseasoned. The yellow rice was bland. The cabbage was mushy and the Mac n cheese was hard and cold. The cake was dry and hard. The “seafood salad” had 0 trace of any seafood. I honestly wish I was exaggerating. The business does not seem to care to keep up with the name they’ve built from years ago. 90% of the staff is rude and always seem to miserable. If I didn’t live across town I would’ve returned the food immediately. I’d like to also note, we arrived less than 45min after opening. Big No.

Y'all, if you don't come here, you are missing out! Best soul food in Jax, better yet, in this country by far! Get yourself some sweet tea and relax! Try the fish and shrimp, some peach cobbler, trust that you won't be leaving hungry! Food that truly touches the soul! Come find your soul at the Bistro, baby!

Finally had a chance to visit the nearby location since they moved a few miles away into the former Outback at Regency. There was a short wait in queue and the back of house line was working like a well oiled machine... Not a surprise since they have the best Oxtails I've had in town! Glad to see, post-pandemic, they are still serving the best local Soul Food on a Sunday morning. Everyone from customers to staff were so friendly and social from enter to exit. Thank you for being a delicious part of the community!

All I can say is the person(s) cooking the food there has a great sense of touch and taste. The food was great. I had one smothered and one fried pork chop. They were very tasty and cooked perfectly. The Mac and cheese was great and seasoned well also. I also had the lemon cake. Smdh, it was so good. I will definitely come back when I'm in town.

First and last time. Just because of the experience. The food was ok, I've never been somewhere that charges for gravy, especially on oxtails. NO KIND OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. We stood at the door for five minutes before deciding to join the line on the wall, no greeting, not one person to make you feel welcome. No one was wearing hair nets or beard guards, I was charged for drinks after saying I didn't want any. Seeing as how this place is supposed to be run by church folks, it's not welcoming in the least! For an update, I forgot to do this for obvious reasons. I awoke the next morning sick to my stomach. I vomited several times that day and couldn't eat anything but Gatorade and broth for a couple of days.

Food was delicious! Had the oxtails. They were tender and meaty. Had the fish and shrimp with mac n cheese, greens, and sweet potato souffle. Thank you to Tangie for being an excellent host. She came to our table several times to make sure we were fine, to provide refills and made sure we knew that our patronage was appreciated. Will be returning with family and friends.

Food was really good. We had the fried chicken and fried seafood plates. Collard greens, peas, and mac and cheese were delicious! The staff was quite rude. They didn't smile, asked me to keep moving down, and when I asked where we go for drinks, the woman gave me a dirty look and told me to go to the register. The woman at the register told me to go to the drink area - and there was no one there. I asked for the coconut pie and was told - "We don't have any." Meanwhile, the waitress who offered refills and condiments was most pleasant. Food is a 4 star, service is a 2 star, and the wonderful lady who checked on us was a 5 star. Not sure if I will be back.

I didn't get to take pictures of my food, I always forget lol, this place was much better than expected. They serve true southern down home style comfort food. The service is cafeteria style yet none of the food looked like it had been dried out from heat lamps. They also have specialty items that are made to order, such as the fried fish that I ordered. I had my order to go so I don't know if they serve differently if you dine in. I'd be more than happy to try them again to find out, will definitely visit again.

Was served fried chicken that still had feathers on the wings. Left the waitress a tip on my credit card and was subsequently informed that the tip I left on the credit card wouldn't go to the waitress but would remain with the company. Cashier when I asked failed to inform me that tips left on the credit card were no longer being dispersed to wait staff. Noticed that the establishment was quick to post price increase for certain meals but obviously didn't think it was necessary to inform customers of the change to tipping policy. Will not patronize this establishment again

It’s a 4.5 for me. Be prepared to stand in line if you go on a Sunday. That’s when I went and I was there waiting to get to the front for about an hour, and it wasn’t packed. It’s cafeteria style, and they have inside seating. I had the fish and shrimp dinner with mac n cheese, greens, cornbread, and sweet tea. I also got a slice of pound cake. Everything was great, except for the greens. They didn’t really have much of a taste to me.

My nephew has introduced me to this place. And I cannot go to Jacksonville without stopping here. Love the food and the hostess that always is upbeat when she greets you at your table. The staff are great!

Food is always good. For weight management I have to limit how often I go to this place. So far I haven't had cake anywhere else better than theirs except my mother's made hers from scratch. She passed in 2021. I find myself going to get their cake because it's the closest to made from scratch goodness she used to make up and no one else comes close to it like Soul food Bistro

I love Potter House however this location is not like the other location. This catfish dinner came with 1 piece of fish (it does taste good) and at the other location it comes with 2. They were out of a few things 1 being yams. The macaroni nor cabbage was as flavorful as the other location either.

every time I walk in here I’m immediately turned off by the line but man! when I say, the wait is so worth it. It’s so worth it, every time. Great portions of food for good price.

I'm a great Soul Food cook and I have been to many restaurants all over the I will say that this one hit the most close to home. Had the Fried Fish and Shrimp dinner which came with two sides. I had the Collard Greens and Potato Salad. The fish was a huge piece fried to perfection along with crispy tasty shrimp. It was a tad overseasoned, but not overwhelming. The greens were tender but could've used a bit more seasoning and the Potato Salad was good but had huge chunks of potatoes in it. My Love had the white meat fried chicken with Mac and cheese. The chicken was golden and delicious!! The Mac and cheese was AMAZING!!! Unfortunately we got there kind of late and all of the dessert was sold out except for the Peach Cobbler. It was some of the BEST Peach Cobbler I have ever had!!! The staff was simply amazing and they also have a dine in option which we used. It was definitely worth the 20 minute drive!!! I definitely recommend

First time customer and I will absolutely be back. I was a little confused walking in not knowing it was a kitchen style restaurant but the server was so kind and helped me immediately. Everyone started clapping when I said it was my first time, we all had a good laugh. The service was fantastic and the food.... Ooof it was your basic southern cooking home meal. The greens were fantastic, and the Mac n cheese, well I could of just had a plate of that. It was so creamy and rich and the chicken was nice n crunchy. Can't wait to be back!

Just left this place. I'm not certain if it's new staff or what but the food must've been from the night before! The Mac was gross and cheese wasn't melted and cold, greens were dry and overcooked (literally dark brown and the meat was almost gray) like they would be if you reheated them 1,000 times and then the chicken was extremely salty!! The lemon cake....Just dry and powdery! I ordered 3 wings...they put one wing in a separate container because "you can't ring it up that way". I go to check out they have NO BAGS. The cashier was non chalant, and didn't even say anything before check out. All she said was, "we ain't got no bags". No manners, no etiquette what so ever! I wouldve thought twice about the extra desert, and drink maybe. (I wish I did because everything was disgusting) SO I HAVE TO CARRY my flimsy salty meal, a drink, a dry cake, and a wing separately to my car. I WILL NOT RETURN. They do not deserve my money. I wasted $24 and my time. The best food item was a dinner roll...makes sense as it is a "Sister Schubert dinner yeast roll" with their melted butter and parsley. I purchased those right out of the freezer section in Publix! Not even original! TRY AT YOUR OWN WILL, HOPEFULLY THIS WAS AN ACCIDENTAL HEAVY SALT DAY!

I had the fried dark meat chicken which was a huge portion and great flavor. My sides were macaroni and cheese, it was pretty good and very cheesy. My other side was collard greens which were okay, not a whole lot of flavor in my opinion. Each dinner comes with a piece of cornbread which was burnt and had no flavor at all. I wanted to try the oxtails but they were a bit expensive. The smothered pork chops looked really good though too! The restaurant was packed and staff was very friendly! Looked like the could've used some more help though. The dining room was super dark and a bit out dated.

We watched the them fix the two Oxtail Dinners and bag then, but somehow when we got home there's no Oxtail Dinners with the rest of my order. I spent over one hundred and twenty dollars last night. When we realized and called no one picked up. Someone knows what happened to my two dinners. What was supposed to be a asome family night was ruined. Our first time there may be our last time. Has this happen to anyone else???

Everything was very delicious and fresh! We have Ox tails and Fried Chicken mac and cheese, field peas, collards, yams and rice & gravy!!! When I tell you it was all good…oh and the cornbread lip smacking good! I didn’t care for the icing on the red velvet cake bc it wasn’t cream cheese and I couldn’t detect what it was….otherwise it was off the cheechain!!!’n

This was my first time eating there for me and my daughter, while we were in town for the day. I had Cabbage , cooked carrots, baked chicken, seafood salad with a sweet tea. I was so full that I could not eat my bread pudding. Everything was delicious we will definitely come back again when we are in town. Also the service staff was awesome.

There was an initial waiting period in line, but it wasn't a long wait. The severs weren't very cordial, but NOT rude. The food was excellent, & the portions were very generous! Once seated a (female) dinning room attendant cam over, greeted my party & asked if our orders were satisfactory, and advised that she will be available if we need anything else. Overall my 1st experience with this establishment is very positive & definitely a place I will visit in the future.
