Food is top-notch soul food. I was confused about getting there, but it's in a small strip mall. It reminds me of how Piccadilly operates. There wasn't anything memorable about the service but nothing bad either. This is the only place I get oxtails. It's pricey but good with a large portion. The rest of the meals seemed pretty affordable, but I know oxtails are high everywhere. I usually eat for lunch and save half for later since it's so much. Definitely worth it.

This food is Slap your mama good! They season food like my mama, grandma and my Aunt Doretha... its like a family reunion in your mouth. The only thing they need to fix, is that rude male server on the peas, last night..1 Aug 2021. Great job!

I don’t know why I’m so late going to Soul Food Bistro. I guess because I have a mom that can cook me any true Southern meal whenever I want. I’m really picky about my Southern food since I’m a native Georgia Peach, but my little cousin repeatedly told me how great this place is. I’ll agree the food is pretty good. It still isn’t my moms food, but still a really good alternative if you don’t want to slave in the kitchen to have a good home cooked down South coma dinner lol. I got the fried chicken which was fried good and seasoned nicely. I got a taste of my cousin’s oxtails. They were very tender. The cabbage was okay, but my cousin and I both agreed they were missing something today. No biggie though. The food still was still really good, and I loved the variety cafeteria style. I’ll definitely come back when I have taste of home and need a close substitute. Nice job Soul Food Bistro.

Bangin!!! Meaty Oxtails over a seasoned bed of rice. Slap ya mama cheesy Mac-n-cheese. Your granny put her foot in em Collard Greens. Sundays best moist, buttered Cornbread and those mouth watering candid Yams.

The food here uses to be good. I would Recommend the oxtail, vegetables, and the fish. But lately the food is either really bland or salty. Today again my food was bland. I wanted a refund but was too shy to ask. And some of the guest do not have best attitude. It’s kinda annoying. The fried chicken is dry. And the Mac is a no. It’s clean. I like music and decorations and the location.

Curry chicken, cabbage and their super cheesy Mac n cheese. Everything was flavorful and filling as usual! Their ladies restroom is very thoughtful with sanitary pads and lotions available for use. A nice touch with floral arrangements!

The food here was FANTASTIC!! I was training in Jacksonville and needed a place to eat. I looked for food nearby and Soul food Bistro popped up. I trained for 4 weeks in Jax and ate here a minimum of twice per week. When you drive by a restaurant and you see a line of people out the door, you get in that line! I had smothered pork chops and yellow rice which are amazing. There collards were perfectly seasoned. The mac and cheese may just be the best I had ever had. I also had the fried chicken wings and the meat loaf. All fantastic. The service is friendly. The line is a little slow but worth the wait. I added this to my will definitely visit again list.

So delicious. Every bite was bursting with flavor. I had the fried pork chops, Mac n cheese, greens, and it also came with yellow rice with some gravy from the smothered pork chops. Will definitely come back. Worth the cost in my opinion.

This eatery was recommended by a local person who picked me up from the airport. I was brought here by a member of Central Metropolitan CME Church. I ordered the Oxtail plate with mac and cheese and green beans. Yellow rice comes with it. We had sweet tea to drink. I was pleasantly surprised at the deliciousness of the food. The Oxtails were super tender and flavorful, complimented by the yellow rice. They tasted like how I cook my own back home in Memphis. The mac and cheese was savory and cheesy. The green beans were rightly seasoned. I was doubly pleased with the portion sizes. When I got back to the hotel, I told everyone I knew about this down home soul food establishment. I will be back.

I've always heard great reviews about this place so me and my coworkers decided to try it to day for lunch. We got the oxtails and they were over cooked or old. It looked like shredded pork and stuck to my teeth bad. It was sticky and chewy. Tired to call down there and nobody ever picked the phone up. It was def a waste of my $15. Hopefully it was just a bad day.

I have visited this restaurant more than ten times over the past few years that I've been a resident in the area. Whenever I have a taste for home cooked food, this has been my Go-To. But this may have been my last visit. The food just doesn't taste the same anymore. Maybe new recipes are being used. The seasoning, flavor and taste overall just lacks what it has in the past. My last two visits have been this way. I'm saddened. The customer service is still good. Nice atmosphere as well.

My go to place when I don't feel like cooking. (Because their food is almost as good as mine 🤭) I also like to use them sometimes for catering last minute gatherings as well. They are reasonably priced and the food is decent. I've used them to cater everything from a banquet, to a small Thanksgiving gathering at my home, to a repass after the passing of my loved one. I will warn you, when going for a regular order be prepared to wait in line! Take a book or something. But that's kind of a good sign that there is good food. Try them out. Happy Day!

1st time at this restaurant was on a Sunday and once I saw the line (from the Church next door) I knew something must be good. I left and came back on a weekday when it's less busy. My favorite dish, the Mac and cheese was great...period! cheesy, creamy tasting without being too wet or too dry and with a nice cheesy light brown crust! The cornbread was just Ok. It was a tad dry and thin too...but the crust had a nice buttery flavor. I'd try it again. The yams not so much...it must of been canned yams/sweet potatoes...it lacked flavor, bland. I'd just get my sweet potatoes from Boston Market. The greens were delicious and I'm so glad it was Turkey meat! The fried chicken was flavorful at first bite but I didn't eat another bite once I saw a feather. Chicken must be properly cleaned, so I won't be ordering that again. All in all I'll be back to try other items and that Mac!! . I'm Jamaican so I won't be trying The oxtail because....nobody gets it right the way we like our oxtail.

Overall: This wasn't hands down the best food I've ever had, but it was REALLY good nonetheless. People in our party that had been before had raved about the fried chicken, so my wife got a big enough portion that I could have a few bites, too, while I had the shrimp and fish. Both dishes were really good, and I really thought the seasoning on both were unique and tastey, though neither was exceptional. The cornbread (comes with each meal, if I'm not mistaken) tasted almost like cake, so I loved it! The portions are what impressed me most. Each person in our party had more than they could eat, and we all ate well. When one person had to wait on more food to be cooked for their entree, she was offered her sides in advance, then to have the full meal (including addition portions of sides) to be brought when the entree was ready.

The food is chef kiss worthy! Green beans were flavorable and cooked perfectly, the cabbage was deliciously seasoned and the yams and mac n cheese was the stars of the plate, I couldn't be more satisfied with my overall experience. The service is efficient and courteous, and the atmosphere was friendly.

If you are looking for good soul food in Jacksonville, this is the place to be. If you are visiting Jax and have never been to Soul Food Bistro "warning" it is a covered served buffet but that's not the issue because as stated it is covered/shielded or whatever terminology you desire to use. The problem is that the line is typically out the door unless you go super early. However, for me, it is more than worth it.

As usual, there was a line, no surprise there, what was surprising was how long it took for the line to move. No one seemed like they cared at all, not very friendly. They take their time and then rush you to order. I gave up on Bistro years ago, but recently at my job, they catered the food twice, and both times, it was so good, I just knew Bistro was back!! Nope. I came for the sweet potato souffle - only served on Sundays😞 Ran out of Mac and cheese - how sway?!, but had plenty of broccoli cheddar rice casserole😒 No thanks. I finally get to the register to pay and the young lady tried to secretly take the man standing behind me, (she made eye contact with him and kind of pointed towards her register) I said, "Excuse me, I am next" She rolled her eyes and never opened her mouth to speak, she tapped the pay machine when it was time to pay. My coworker was behind me and asked for hot sauce. She acted as if it would hurt her to help, but she did hand over three sauces, so lackadaisical still no words. The pork chops were good, not great, the rice was bland, gravy was good, greens were not good at all, the meat inside was so dry, cornbread was good, black eyes peas were a little too pasty/ thick, even for my taste, and the red velvet cake was okay. I ordered an Arnold palmer for the drink, and it was good. Overall, I think unless it's on someone else's dime, I will pass on Bistro. However, I wish them nothing but the best.

I haven't been here in years and decided to try it. I did not like it at all. I purchased the Herb chicken dark meat and it was dried out, the greens were under cooked literally had crunch to them and the Mac and cheese was ok but definitely not hot, matter fact none of it was fresh. I thought yellow rice came with all dinners. I guess not because we didn't get any, I will say their cornbread is very good but thats it. One of the young men even gave me an extra piece of chicken because he felt so bad that they had given me such small amount of food. When I got to check out the young people were talking and laughing so much the young lady who rung up my food wasn't even paying attention to the fact that she didn't give me silverware, and acted like I was a bother to her. My daughter enjoyed her food but as for me, I won't be returning.

Great service 1 hour before closing, despite the long line. Ms. Delores put tables together so the 15 of us could sit together. She was very pleasant and helpful. The dressing was delicious. The oxtails were tender but could've been better trimmed so that white blobs of fat were not on them in my plate. All the food had great taste.

Food I ordered the curry chicken and meatloaf special. They were out of curry chicken and only sent one meal via DOORDASH. I would have really appreciated a call so that I could try another option. They only sent one meal and door dash did not offer a refund. So two stars for service. And one star for atmosphere I’ve never been but I do order all the time something was off about the meatloaf this week.

  • 5/5 Tammy R. 6 months ago on Google
It doesn't look like much, but the food makes up for any lack of atmosphere! I stopped through between work meetings to grab a bite to eat. The line was long, so knew the food would be good. Basic choices, meatloaf was the special, but I was not that brave (the guy behind me in line was raving about it, tho). Herb chicken was moist and tasty. The green beans were straight out of grans kitchen, and the yams left me wanting more. I couldn't help myself, and had to try the peach cobbler. It did not disappoint, and the last bite came too quickly. So good. Definitely recommend, and I'll be back again!

Oxtails were overcooked and over priced at $24.99 a plate. They were selling can collard greens but claiming them to be fresh cooked. Corn bread was not freshly cooked. My whole experience was a let down. This place has gone down over the years. They use to be one of the best eatery's in town.

The food here has never disappointed me. If you are looking for some good soul food, I definitely recommend stopping by. It is located in a little shopping plaza that is owned by the Potter's House (as is the Bistro). You go inside and stand in line to get around to the serving counter. The menu is behind the counter and large enough for everyone to see. They have a large variety of food to choose from. I had the fried pork chops (3 pieces is what I received) with rice and gravy, macaroni and cheese, and cabbage. My daughter had the meatloaf with double macaroni and cheese. My grandson had the chicken wings with macaroni and cheese and fries. We also received corn bread with each meal. The food was hot and delicious. It was seasoned well, also. The line moves pretty quickly, and they get you checked out right away. By the cash register is where you can get dessert and drinks. We did not get drinks as we were taking the food home. However, we did get Lemon cake. The cake was very moist and delicious. I have tried the food here on a few different occasions. I love it!

The oxtail dinner was absolutely delicious. It's a little bit pricey but worth every penny when there's enough food to really fill you up!! I shall return very soon.

Not exactly what I expected. My husband ordered the fish, and I ordered the oxtail. The fish was not cooked all the way and the breading was mushy. The oxtail didn't taste fresh. The peach cobbler was a bit too sweet, but the customer service was very homey!! I'll give it another try only because our sides were pretty good: Mac and cheese, string beans, sweet potatoes and Cornbread.

First time here. Waited in line for a bit only to be told chicken drumletts would be another 10 minutes. So got the roasted chicken. Got charged an extra $1.00 for white meat. Only noticed that when I reviewed my receipt. Got me a piece of red velvet cake. Have not eaten any of it yet. My cousin got peach cobbler for dessert but ate it before we drove off. She claims it was "real good!" As I was leaving a staff member thanked me for my business and wished me a great day. I liked that. 😊)i(

This was my favorite restaurant in this city. Haven’t gone since covid & I am so disappointed . The young lady taking my order was so rude until after people spoke with her commented she needs to change her attitude. Once I got passed that I paid $23 for oxtails that included 1 large oxtail an looked like the rest were boiled off the bone but to my surprise it taste like roast beef mixed with rice….. very disappointing!!! If we are willing to pay whatever price you need to charge please don’t misrepresent or try to sell someone a dream about what they’re eating. I didn’t take it back because I live at the airport an all I wanted was to enjoy the delicious food that you serve but boy was I wrong. Throwing in the trash after paying $23 to eat vegetables!’

The food is outstanding! Dark meat fried chicken (white was a tad dry) greens, candied yams, baked beans, mac 'n cheese, cornbread, smothered pork chops 'n rice...you name it, it is ALL so dang good!!! Oh, and *perfect* sweet tea. Seriously - chefs kiss perfection! I've been several times and yet to have a bad meal (even the 'dry white meat' chicken was perfectly edible, just not as good as the dark) The restaurant itself isn't fancy, but it's clean with ample seating. Bring your appetite as the portions are generous and the taste will have you cleaning the plate!

I stopped for some good eating , so I tried this place. It was an ok experience; servers were mediocre and not welcoming. I ordered the braised oxtails( my favorite dish btw), they were tender and soft but salty. Mac n cheese and fried cabbage was delish. I wasn’t too happy but will give them another try. The peach cobbler was ok. I haven’t tried the bread pudding yet.

1st thing first they need to update their website. It says they close at 8pm on Sundays and they do not they close at 7pm. Specifically called before I came to the Normandy location and asked if they had a particular item and the woman o. The phone stated yes and I asked if they closed at 8pm I was told yes. I drove 28mins only to walk in and for the nice woman at the door to say they were closed at 7:11pm. I asked who do I need to speak with to have someone to update their website with the correct hours of operation. I was craving only one item and it did upset me that I wasn’t able to get that one item And I would have paid double I just was craving it… This did put a bad taste in my mouth never had an issue with them because I usually come during the days I’m on the west side during lunch hour. Just change the hours on website and make sure whoever answers the phone make sure they let the customer know the closing time just in case they are in route instead of wasting their time.

  • 5/5 Ladonna J. 2 years ago on Google
They must've hired a new cook because last week the food was overly salty- all of it! Otherwise, each time the food has been extra good. Not just good, but extra good 👍🏽 ... I have never had salty cornbread until last week. I think someone intentionally was trying their best to Sabotage to works of the Lord! "The devil is a lie" ! Ha!

My fish and shrimp was good, the chicken wing wasn’t seasoned and our yams wasn’t done or barely had sugar. They was so hard omg. The had to switch they cook or something. My peach tea was the bomb.
