Sadly the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed so on a whim we tried Sandollar, HUGE mistake. The entire place was filthy. We ordered the seafood platter for two, the fried fish was fantastic, the clams okay, the shrimp obviously frozen and not fresh, and the scallops? NOT SCALLOPS. Scallops should be smooth and buttery these were tough, gritty, and resembled a chicken nugget in consistency. They lacked the scalloped taste, smell, or texture. We mentioned it to the server who advised perhaps the texture was off because they came out of a can. The manager came out and was rude and condescending and told us they were scallops and it was clear we just didn’t know what scallops tasted like and that maybe the texture was off because they were fried. She repeated over and over that they couldn’t legally sell something as scallops if they weren’t, well they weren’t! Add to the fact that the deviled crab was made with fake Krab and it was the icing on the cake to ensure we will NEVER be back. It’s unfortunate because the setting is lovely but it’s clear the management does not care about the product, customer satisfaction, or cleanliness. I’m leaving grossed out!

We ate until we could not move. I had oysters, triggerfish and crab legs. My wife had crab stuffed mushrooms and crab legs and our daughter had calamari and crab legs. All of it was delicious and the service was outstanding! The 2 for 1 wine’s helped too. Great view too

Lovely place for a great meal. We ordered the crabcake sandwich, the crab stuffed shrimp, and the platter for one. We also tried the gator tail. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. The view on the ocean was amazing. Friendly service and the key lime pie was the best we've ever had.

The food and service are par excellence. We enjoyed the Thanksgiving Buffet and the traditional bill of fare. The servers are kind, attentive yet do not cover you like a blanket. Tables are always available bordering the St. John's River. My son and I tend to gravitate there enjoying the drive bordering Clapboard Creek which emptys into the St. John's River and the lovely homes there along. The road to and from is in excellent shape and well cared for adding to the charisma.

This place has improved a lot! Give it a try. Atmosphere: Overlooking the river with big picture windows and outdoor deck seating. Padded chairs with square wooden tables. Great place for a date night. Not too fancy. Casual dress. Food: I got fried cod fish 7/10, fries 6/10, cheese grits 8/10 and hush puppies 9/10 for $20. Could not finish it there was so much food. Hubby got the tuna med rare 7/10, green beans 3/10, and baked potatoe 7/10. Appetizer was the stuffed mushrooms which were very good 9/10. Sister got shrimp tacos and she said they were delicious. We got a side of hush puppies to go and they came with the most delightful whipped sweet butter. Highly recommend. Parking: Free with a small lot.

I have been coming here for many years. I was really looking forward to a great dinner. But service was slow even though they weren't crazy busy. Took 50 minutes to get an appetizer. And then the chowder came to the table cold. (Asked them to heat it up, which they did without complaint.) Food was not well seasoned or even very tasty. Got the fish tacos and Island Mahi platter (chewy and bland; pineapple salsa made it edible). What was GREAT, though, was the setting and view. See pics.

Generally really chill vibes and perfect for a laid back day by the water. The food is pretty good and the bar has almost anything you’d need. It does have an unusual smell when you first walk up, and that causes a bit of discomfort before you see everything is pretty nice beyond that. Don’t expect anything fancy, really wonderful for a chill lax day in your beach clothes. Perfect for those of us who like to feel welcome into a place.

My wife and I were out exploring our new surroundings as we just moved here. We drove to no where special but we were enjoying the beautiful scenery. We got hungry and picked the Sanddollar for lunch. It’s a family oriented place that has an inviting atmosphere. It’s very casual as one party had their dogs with them which we love that! The service is friendly and attentive. The menu features fish, obviously, but also burgers. The salads we had were delicious as well! The vegetables were fresh and the dressing was lick the plate good! We had salads and hush puppies. Now neither my wife or I are from the south so we haven’t had too many hush puppies. The ones we order were delicious! Deep fried crusty crust and light and fluffy inside. I’d go back here just for those! The prices are very reasonable and when you include the atmosphere and amazing view, it’s a terrific place for lunch or dinner! I give Sand Dollar Restaurant 3 Happy Hushpuppy Chefs Hats 👨‍🍳👨‍🍳👨‍🍳

Great spot off heckscher road with water views and awesome to see the boats go by. Their peel and eat shrimp was delicious along with their mahi burger. Also liked the French fries. Service was really fast. Only issue is the smell of the ocean / mud during low tide, but that’s what the territory comes with. Highly recommend overall.

It was a rocky start at the beginning because it seemed like the hostess couldn’t handle the influx of people coming in for Mother’s Day. The two servers, Reilly and Logan really saved the day. They tended to our every need. The restaurant is sitting in a great location. It’s right on Heckscher Drive, on the water. Most of the tables outside has umbrellas, thank god, and there are two outside bars on both ends of the dock. The building has large windows so you could still see the St. John’s River while you eat inside. It was cool watching massive cargo ships, jet skills, boats, and the ferry pass by. The food was fantastic. I would suggest they try their best to get the place back to full staff. The few working there appear close to a burnout. If possible maybe they can do something about the parking. It’s really tight in there. If you get there late, you’ll either have to park down the road and walk back or wait it out for someone to leave.

Really cool place. Beautiful view of the water. It was a little chilly with the breeze blowing. Cool inside bar and gift store. We started with the crab cakes and aolie sauce. It was seasoned perfectly. The red fish sandwich was delicious and moist. The bisque was really tasty and creamy. Very good. The local brew was great. The shrimp and fries were crispy and moist. The server was very busy but she was super sweet. I’m really glad we stopped in for lunch. Enjoy 😊

We stopped here after hiking Big Talbot a cloudy day. You can count on enjoying some tasty food with a beer while checking out the view of the ferry. this place has that old school seafood vibe to it and that is perfect for me.

Great place to enjoy food, friends, and the busy river view. We also experienced a great sunset into a full moon. The grouper is great here.

This place is amazing! I definitely recommend going Thursday nights for their crab special ($12/lb) after 5 pm. And if you go right at 5, you can catch their happy hour, which is from 2-6. They also have live music Thursday nights! My boyfriend and I loved everything we got! We got 3 pounds of crab legs for our entree. For appetizers, we had 1/2 lb shrimp served hot and a bowl of clam chowder.

We come everytime we are in town. Normally it's a great time and amazing staff. This time they were short handed, food was still amazing! The guy who brought our food out dropped some off the plate said he would replace and never came back out. Our waitress was also the bar tender at the bar so other than taking our order it was difficult to get refills. We will of course be back because 1 bad time out of 20, everyone has a bad day. Also the views are beautiful both the sunset and the river! Oh and they had a great sounding band playing too!

We decided to brave the chill (for Florida) and walk the beach, that decision lead us to an early lunch stop as our beach day was cut short by the cold wind :( We made a dash to Sand Dollar Restaurant were greeted by the sweetest person! Our waitress Fay made our experience super special! She gave us excellent recommendations, and was just a doll! We had delicious mussels for an appetizer, fun drinks, and a huge main dish - luckily we split all of it because there is no way we could have eaten that by ourselves! (Big portions!) The ferry is next to the restaurant so with the extra time we added an adventure to our day! Thank for your prompt friendly service Fay!!!!

First time here and it was delicious food! It was such an amazing day outside, so we truly enjoyed our time sitting outside by the weather and our food. We even got to see Dolphins jumping infront of a boat. We can't wait to come back

Wonderful place to have a fresh seafood meal. The umbrella covered patio nice, clean and had live music. The food was good, but I should have ordered differently. The service was excellent. It was pricey, but for a waterside fresh seafood meal definitely worth every penny.

Many menu options for anyone. Live music. Great views! The service was fast and friendly. The sweet potato fries were delicious and I got a burger that was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The drink menu was good but they were able to make anything we requested because there is a full bar.

The location right to the river is awesome. It was a rainy day, so we were inside but I can imagine that it's great outside too. I had a blackened mahi mahi sandwich with fries. Taste was good. Our appetizer, the mushroom crab cake with lots of cheese was great too. Service was excellent. The only downside was that they were out of I-10 and yuengling draft. Would definitely come here again when I am down in the area.

One of the best dining views in Jax. We came on a Saturday late afternoon after a relaxing few hours at Little Talbot State Park. My husband got the Sautéed Clams and some onion rings, and once Fay (who goes by Grandma -make sure to ask for her) found out I was a vegetarian, she made me a killer salad and a grilled cheese. Our visit also overlapped 2 different musical acts. Definitely recommend for a laid back, no frills, afternoon. Also heard they're going back to the old school menu next week, for those of you who've been coming for years.

I stopped by here yesterday with the family and we had great service from Tina. I was tempted to order a seafood option but went for the chicken alfredo which was FANTASTIC! It’s been about 18 years since I came in here last time, and the place has been spruced up a good bit. I look forward to coming again on our next surfing trip.

Packed on a band weekend, but they made room for me anyway. Quick tasty meal despite being very busy. Great view of the river with ships floating by. Free parking lots are small but additional parking is possible in the grassy area along the road.

This is some of the best seafood I have eaten since I moved to Florida and the view is incredible. The service was great and when you come to eat you better bring your appetite because you will need it, the portions are enormous and delicious, you definitely get your money worth at this place and it was very enjoyable with a laid back atmosphere. Just come in and relax and enjoy the view and food with great customer service. A definite if you want seafood, it was a little drive but definitely worth it and if you are early enough and go to it you can even take the ferry!!

We stopped for lunch after kayaking nearby. The food did not disappoint. We sat outside. A great spot where there was a nice breeze. Waitstaff was friendly. The food was prepared well. I had blackened grouper with a double side of green beans. My husband had blackened grouper sandwich with a side of black beans and rice. Both dishes were very good!

Five stars for being dog friendly! Bowls of ice water were brought out for the pups and much appreciated. Taking the Mayport ferry over to the restaurant side is just plain fun and is part of our trips to the Sandollar. Sitting out on the deck, in the shade, while a breeze blows through and cold beer at hand, make for the nice atmosphere. The food is pretty much beach restaurant fare, but it has always been good. We've managed to miss any crowds (we're usually there for a late lunch on a weekday), and the waitresses are usually bubbly and attentive. It's a little lunch treat for us, so I can't comment on the dinner hours, but I'm sure it's just as pleasant.

The host was very rude with us. Sunday noon and no draft beer. Just the view was worth it. The menu wasn't worth the price. Fish fried really? Everything was the same flavor. Tap water tasted like sewer. I would not recommend the place
