If you visit Jacksonville or Amelia Island make this apart of your stops! We took a 10 minute ($8) ferry ride (in our car) from Jacksonville. This was about a 15 minute drive from the ferry. Parking and entry is free. There was a park ranger on site giving information about the space. We want to bring our boys back because this is the first plantation we’ve seen that has given a honest historical context of Americans enslavement of African people. The installation gives a nod to African culture, religion and traces the ancestry of some of the first slaves to current years. We were able to walk into the preserved slave quarters and visitors center but the main house was closed to tours. It’s certain still worth the visit!

Great place very educational. Crazy bumpy muddy road to get there. Staff friendly and helpful. Remember other people there to learn and can help from going back to the past. Take your friends, family, and kids for educational experience

My ancestors went through so much...not just humans ....blacks specifically. I appreciate the truth being told about this plantation but as a black woman we were more than just slaves....we created and build so much for America the least can be done is give the credit of who my people were before slavery. It definitely explain the terrible conditions but it's more to our history than slavery. This particular slave has a unique yet shocking twist. Research the family for yourself. Clean museum. House was locked so we couldn't go in the big house. The visitor shop has a lady to assist with purchasing books and gifts. I want to open my own museum now...

We walked around the Plantation for a couple of hours. It was a beautiful day, with sunshine and a nice breeze. The visit was very educational. I have never walked the plantation before, but I remember seeing the slave houses. The history of this place is very unusual, with the slave master marrying a slave, having children and running the plantation together. According to the story, the wife was basically running the place for him. The history of slavery was front and center, and it pained my heart to read and see pictures of that time. Warning- some are graphic and to the point. The house and grounds are spectacular! We learned they have weddings there because they were preparing for one that day. There's no cost to visit and it's rich in history. There's a gift shop and there are restroom facilities available. There are several different buildings to tour, and you can walk around what remains of the slave quarters to get a sense of that time in history. Extra: When we arrived I used my phone to scan the QR on the sign by the parking area (where you walk up) and we were able to listen to the audio tour as we wandered around. It worked wonderfully, even given the fact that we were out in the woods. The ability to listen to the stories made the visit so much richer. I recommend this for travelers, who may want to learn the history of the area. We loved the experience!

Visited in May 2022 and it was a great visit. The plantation and grounds were well maintained and beautiful. Lots of information on the plantation itself and what life was like during it's high life. Bird and fish life is plentiful all around. A great place to visit to see and learn. Lots of information. Parking is onsite but is not paved and neither is the path to get to the home and surrounding buildings. The visitor's center is behind the main house and kitchen buildings. The visitor center did have a ramp and paved path to it from the main house. It's small but cozy and loved stopping in to their small gift shop. Friendly employees.

What an incredible walk through history, we have learned a lot. Everything is super well taken care of. There are informative audios and readings and a park ranger willing to answer your questions, very friendly. You can come with the whole family and have a good day, there are benches to enjoy the views of the river and large green areas where children can play. Highly recommended, it was well worth every last minute here. It is inside the Fort George Island Cultural State Park.

My wife and I went here on Juneteenth. We went to learn about the true struggles of imported African Slaves in the Americas. We walked around the property and saw with our own eyes what the living conditions were like for them in that time. Though the land and architecture were gorgeous, there was a heavy atmosphere about the whole place, which is understandable. Lots of educational plaques and learning opportunities.

Very nice with a lot of walking. Lots of reading. Amazingly beautiful but sad when you think about how humans were treated to have such a placem The main house was not open but the building that was the kitchen is open. The visitor center is very small with a few things for sale. Amazing old Florida drive to Plantation.

This was one of the best Historical places I have been to in a while It was not only easy to lose track of time but to invision the ships arriving heavy laden with supplies for the Plantation. Mrs. Anna Kinsley would have been so interesting to have met! You can read about her journey once you arrive in her house. The garden & mock supper are quaint. Do make sure to check out the dock! Beware to check your tide charts though ,some of the roads to the Plantation can get a little sketchy during high tide.

I really wanted to visit this place while on vacation. It's about a 30 minute ride afte5 you exit I 95 in Jacksonville, Florida. It was an scenic ride, however once we got closer I was getting a bit antsy because the pavement turned to a one lane dirt road. When we finally arrived, I was at ease to see more sightseers. The experience was like no other...to see slave cabins and walk the grounds of a plantation was spiritual for me.I also saw the Kitchen House where the meals were prepared. I highly recommend it

Well maintained history, wonderful deep Florida feel with over hanging trees and drooping Spanish Moss. It’s a flat walk around the property. Take is slow while driving the 2 miles of dirt road leading back to the park, it’s beautiful and one of the best parts of this place. Free admission.

This was a great outing with the family. A major kudos to the park ranger who sits in the house. He was such a bucket of information. There is no way to learn it all in ten minutes, but you could definitely listen to him for hours. I highly recommend this place whether you drive in, or kayak in. If you kayak, make sure to avoid the low tide... Don't get stuck like I almost did a few years ago haha. Anyway, a great place to bring a lunch and take in some history. To reflect on where we have been and where we are going.

We visited this national park some time ago. It was a lovely setting and very informative. The grounds were well kept. You can walk through at your own pace and read about its history on the many signs posted around the property. The view of the Fort George River is quite nice as well.

I totally LOVED visiting Kingsley Plantation!! History books don't do it justice as to what they went through. I learned so very much. More then I ever have in my 57 years on earth.

A beautiful plantation with nicely manicured grounds. The continuing preservation of the buildings and grounds was in progress at the time of my visit and not much was open to the public. But exploring the grounds provided information and evidence of life during those times.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Kingsley Plantation. There was a lot of history about how the work was accomplished, and the old structures were nice.

Very nice place to bring the family and learn not just a little of Florida history but the darker side of our history here in the south. Very happy things aren't this way anymore. Very informative and very eye-opening none the less. Would love to come on a day when they do the tours. They also have kayak tie offs and boat dock in the rear of the peoperty

Very informational monument. Its very heartbreaking to think of what happened to the slaves that lived there. There are plenty of places to park and places to see. From the plantation home, to the refining barn, to the slave quarters. You truly do step back into a different era.

Expected to see more exhibits inside. It is nice to walk and see the historical places. Owner’s house is empty inside, 4 rooms you can walk through. That would feel absolutely different if some of items or furniture would be staged there

Quick little day trip checking out the Kingsley plantation. There is a little gift shop and bathrooms on location. It is a national park. You can drive up on a boat and tour for free

Beautiful grounds, well kept. The staff was very knowledgeable and taught us more about the history, thank you. Look in the trees you might find a peacock. Dogs are allowed on grounds with leash but can not go inside the buildings. Access via car or boat. Audio tour available.

Warning!!! The road to Kingsley Plantation is narrow and a bit rough. We went after a rain shower, so that's why I thought to warn. This place was beautiful. Great scenery as well. Wish I could've went inside of the house but they really want to persevere it.

Visited off season so we didn't tour the inside, but the grounds were so cool to walk around and there's so much information provided on the trails. There's even friendly peacocks that welcomed us as we exited our vehicles. Would definitely recommended stopping by and exploring the grounds.

Enjoyed the tour operated by the National Park Service. The house was not open or finished to the period. Some maintenance needed on the property. Audio tour available.

We always enjoy visiting the Kingsley Plantation and hearing about it's history. There are many things to do around the plantation. There are hiking and biking trails, a visitor center, and historic homes churches in other areas near and around the Kingsley Plantation. Good for visiting with families, couples, or just exploring by yourself!
