👍👍 I know most people come here for beer. I’m not a beer drinker, so let me tell you about the food. First, I waited way too long to try this place. I think I was worried I wasn’t cool enough or something (it’s a speakeasy behind a vape shop). But I finally went and I found what I believe is the best... I know most people come here for beer. I’m not a beer drinker, so let me tell you about the food. First, I waited way too long to try this place. I think I was worried I wasn’t cool enough or something (it’s a speakeasy behind a vape shop). But I finally went and I found what I believe is the best restaurant in Jacksonville. The music and vibe are great. It looks kind of like someone set up a bar and tiny restaurant in your German grandma’s dining room. You can tell that the entire staff, from the hostess at the very front of the house to the chef at the back, love the place, the food, each other, and their guests. And let me tell you about the food. I actually do have a German grandmother and I have been fortunate to visit Germany and Austria. This is the best pretzel and best schnitzel I have had in the United States. On my first visit I had the käsespätzle with truffle and it was so rich and comforting. Since then I have had the leberkäse and the Reuben. My husband gets the jägerschnitzel every time. The Rueben is great, but I am kind of obsessed with the leberkäse. It’s so simple but so delicious. And the potato pancakes are outstanding - puffy and crisp at the same time. The desserts…OMG. They had me at kirsche torte. Everyone has German Chocolate cake, which is not my thing. Kirsche torte - also called Black Forest cake - is where it’s at. Dark chocolate cake with whipped cream frosting and stuffed with cherries. On my most recent visit they had a new/seasonal strawberry cake and that was also outstanding. If you haven’t been, make a reservation and check it out ASAP.

What a fabulous surprise this place was! You walk into a vape store to the back door.. where you emerge in a full service bar… and then are led to another back door and you enter a lovely lit Biergarten! Total Speakeasy vibe! Selection of beers were vast, and many German ones to pick from. Food was mostly good. Potato pancakes and the sausages really stood out. Side dishes were not cooked correctly at all. Service was very good and the manager even comped us a dessert beverage. I loved the live band playing German music and the wait staff were all in themed costumes. Definitely going back & bringing even more friends! Fun evening in Murray Hill!

From the speakeasy setup - to the service - to the food - to the beer selection = 👏👏👏👏 the only authentic German spot I’m aware of (not sure if Shnitzel house is still around). I love this gem for a unique experience without the pretentious aspect that usually comes along with food served of this caliber

It was Sunday, my partner said she has been thinking about the charcuterie board from Buchner's for over a month... I was extremely excited to hear this words come from her lips as I have as well. She enjoys a 'cozy' environment with food that we can snack on, and expirement flavors with as we go. Buchner's is perfect for that. It had a vast selection of German and European beer and wine that you can rarely find outside of this joint. We decided on the 'Italian weekend' charcuterie board this time, with the house pickles, and the sweet mustard seed (our favorite.) It is a must add on too EVERYTHING, I called it caviar ha. Simon gives the perfect service for the environment, and don't be discouraged by walking through the vape shop to get to the restaurant.. it's kinda a speak easy vibe. Or a vibe in general. This is a hidden gem in Jax and they open at 12pm on sundays, and are also open late Fri. And sat.

Jack is an amazing server. Very sweet and attentive! I enjoyed the bratwurst, which came with potato salad and sauerkraut. I sat in the biergarten where they had a small band called the Rasin Cake Orchestra, and they were excellant. There was plenty of seating and empty tables to spare. What a beautiful evening!!!

Nice vibe! Amazing food. Friendly staff. Nice indoor bar/ seating and cool outdoor tables in the beer garden out back. Truly enjoyed it here. Started and ended our night there. Even made some nice friends that night! Prost! 🍻

My first time, and what an unexpected gem. I am new to the area, and just walked in to hidden German treasure. Definitely going to be a regular. The ambieance is quaint and has the vibe of authentic German experience. I am no expert, but I may learn through Buchner's.

My better half truly felt transported back to Germany. The menu is great, food very genuine. Would have taken more photos of the plates, but we ended up devouring it before remembering to do so. You will have to get your German on there yourselves, don't just take my word for it! Great selection of wine and beer as well!

$$$$ We were so excited to visit this speakeasy but left somewhat disappointed. Atmosphere was nice but the food was so overrated. The only cheese on the cheese platter that had flavor was the goat cheese. We ordered olives those were all smashed weren't even whole. It took forever for then to make it guess they had to smash the olives first. Ruben was good but not enough of the insides. Just felt like eating nothing but bread. Best thing on the table were the green beans lol. My explanation was not this. Boo! 👎🏻over rated & over priced..

Service was great and the place is a bit private! I had the fresh pretzel with a mustard and cheese sauce and it did not disappoint. It's not a large place once you enter the rear but it's definitely cozy. So if you're looking for a small place with good service this may be your spot.

I was visiting JAX and stopped by to get some food. I was not disappointed. It is one of the best German restaurant in the US I've ever visited. Highly recommended. The schweinshaxe is a go. Due to the limited space I highly recommend to make reservations in advance.

I've been here 5 times with varying levels of enjoyment. If you sit inside and want good service, I suggest you order several drinks. If you don't, they hardly check on you. My latest visit will be my last, unfortunately. Ordered appetizers and a main course. My main was incorrect and the waiter never came back to check on the table... The place is really not worth the hype.

Me and my future boyfriend come here all the time to eat charcuterie boards. They play great music and cool movies inside but the backyard is the best. I like to sit outside so I can get frisky with her. She loves reading the menu to me in her best German (it starts off our role play for the night when she wants to be a dominatrix German lady and whip me with kielbasa). P.S. The coffee is great. This is a good alternative to Epcot. Although, I can’t wait to go back to Epcot, get drunk in Mexico, go on Spaceship Earth, and give my girl two finger magic when the ride gets super dark.

First, the good the staff was great and the kirsch tortes was very good although a bit overpriced. I ordered the Jägerschnitzel which I was quite excited about. Instead of a hearty and flavorful mushroom gravy, I got a very bland cream gravy with mushrooms. The schnitzel itself was mediocre at best. The secret to a good schnitzel, besides the breading, is a thin, tenderized meat. This "schnitzel" was simply a breaded lean boneless porkchop. The sides that came with my schnitzel were green beans and potato salad. Both of which had a fork each and didn't touch it again. I will say their charcuterie plates looked amazing, and I will give the place a second try. Mainly because of staff and the atmosphere of the place. Maybe schnitzel isn't their strength.

My wife and I went for a date night on a Friday night. We sat outside which was perfect! They had a DJ playing great music with a chill atmosphere. The service was great! The server provided great beer recommendations to compliment our appetizer (huge pretzel) and meals (bratwurst). This will now be a regular spot for us. The inside is beautifully done also!

Very cool speakeasy German beer hall, bar and restaurant. Hidden behind a vape shop. I bring out-of-towners here and it leaves an impression. Very unique atmosphere and great German food.

I absolutely love this place! Very low profile, incredibly pleasant to enjoy a drink at the bar or outside. I definitely enjoyed the vibe here, drinks were tasty, and so was the finger food. Mind your Pints & Quarts 😉 …. Tasty beer selection too btw.

Buchner’s is absolutely fantastic. We visited on one of the Christmas market nights in December, and we loved it. The food was delicious, and the selection of imported beer and wine was awesome. Despite being very busy the service was top-notch.

The water never gets enough credit. We were served by Elizabeth (but you can call her Libby). Amazing service, outstanding knowledge, and the greatest attitude. She really brought the whole experience together. It was our first time at a German restaurant and she was an amazing tour guide. She had no troubles picking out the perfect beer and snack food for us. The food was amazing but really.. the water never gets enough credit. We will be coming back. Check out their outside eating area with live music on select days.

Loved the environment, food was delicious, and service was great. Went for Father's Day lunch. German beer choices were outstanding and the pretzel was perfect for sharing. The curry wurst, knackwurst, wurst platter, and spargel salad were so good and very authentic. Only downside was it wasn't white asparagus, but understandable as it is usually in season in the spring (at least in Germany). Finished the meal with a slice of the pistachio cake which was also perfect for sharing. Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Recently, I had the responsibility for organizing my high school reunion and was looking for a place that we could meet after our welcome mixer. We stumbled across Buchner's and instantly knew it was the best place to host a group. We were sitting under covered seating on the back patio, beneficial as it was raining earlier in the day. Despite it having rained, the seats and tables were totally dry. There were ample fans to keep cool in these summer temps. There was a DJ playing a chill mix of R&B, house and dance. The service that manager Sean and his servers provided to our group was excellent and prompt. Considering how large of a group we had (50+) and the large number of orders we had + those of indoor customers, the speed at which orders and meals were provided was exceptional. We are so happy to have been able to come here as everyone had a wonderful experience! I know I certainly will be back to try a greater array of beers, wines and entrees.

Great date spot or just to stop by and have a drink and pretzel. I've done a menu tasting of this place previously and was blown away, I enjoy stopping in when I'm in the area and grabbing one of their delicious pretzels that pairs well with a beer.

Always enjoy going here with friends! Service is great. Outside area makes for perfect atmosphere. Of course, the food is wonderful. We love sharing the extra large board. The selection of beers are like no other in town & authentic to the German vibe.
