Sri Naga Viharaya is the main international Buddhist centre which is located in the heart of the city Jaffna, Sri Lanka. People who explore Jaffna should step into this centre as its historical value and since it is the only main Buddhists centre for Jaffna. When you explore the place make sure that you are in a white dress which appropriately covered (suitable for a Buddhists temple). You can bring / buy flowers, coconut oil, oil lamps, and incense sticks for the pooja. Please behave calm and respectful. This centre is 24hours open for the prayers. Also more importantly the centre itself has some accomodation facilities for an affordable price for the long distance people who want to spend the night in the temple. You can visit an ancient bodhi, ancient stupa, Lord Buddha's prayer room and Kovil in this premises.

A historical temple in jaffna city center. Just few foot distances from jaffna rail way station. Thera are some accomadation available for people those who visit jaffna for reasonable price. But the cleanliness are not in standard level. But it worth for money. Can be recomended for budget travelers.

This is the only Buddhist centre located in the heart of Jaffna Town. Despite being located in a busy area, the premises is calm and quiet. This place is being looked after by the SL army. Most importantly, there are lodging facilities (AC/ or Non A/C) for pilgrims/other visitors from distant areas, at a reasonable price.

A very famous buddhist temple. There weren't many people inside when we visited. There weren't any monks to be seen as well. Maybe because of our timing.

A typical Buddhist temple woth a Pagoda, Bo Tree and Buddha Statues. Not well maintained. But not well maintained as of cleaning and all. Nevertheless the peace and tranquility associating the temples are all here. Not a recommended visit in your brief trips to Jaffna. Be here only for religious purposes.

The Jaffna Sri Naga Vihara Temple is one of the most beautiful and peaceful temples in Sri Lanka. It is located in the heart of Jaffna town, and is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. The temple is a great place to visit for meditation and reflection. There are a number of quiet spots where you can sit and relax, and the monks are always happy to offer guidance and support. If you are looking for a place to experience the beauty and peace of Sri Lanka, then the Jaffna Sri Naga Vihara Temple is the perfect place for you.

From Kurikkadduwan you have to take a boat ride which will cost you LKR. 40 in order to get in to Sri Naga Viharaya. There are so much changes (Developments) can be seen inside the temple. Must visit holy place for Buddhist pilgrimage.

This is one of the very few Buddhist temples in Jaffna. Nothing much to see here. You can pay a visit since it has a historical importance. They provide accommodation facilities as well. But the facilities are very limited. Price is very reasonable though.

You have to take a boat ride to reach this temple.... there are boats leaving every 30 minutes which will cost you around Rs.40 for one way.... a very sacred place since lord buddha has visited this island back in the day.... cannot take photographs inside the temple... very hot during noon... so visit early in the morning...

One of the sixteen holiest places a Buddhist should visit in Sri Lanka, with a long written history behind it. Could be reached by a boat only from the main island, it's about 30 minutes ride. Calmness is mixed with the beautiful sound of the sea, boasts with rich history of Sri Lanka.

Very clean and tidy temple. Can reserve rooms too. High security. Location is ideal for travellers because it's in Jaffna town. Easy access to the bus station and railway station both.

I have seen many rude, noisy and drunken sinhalese around there drumming and singing songs late night. Don't go at evening here. It's not a good place for tourists at all

Buddhist Temple in Jaffna town. They have halls, budgeted rooms and A/c rooms to stay for a reasonable price. You may call and book rooms in advance. They do not provide any meals. Manager in charge was very helpful. Rooms were okay. Since it is crowded, sometimes it is bit noisy arround here. Easy to reach Jaffna town from here. There is a restaurant in front of the temple which opens between 7 am to 9 pm.

What a Nice place and well kept. Clean and calm environment make the place much attentive for visitors. No fee to entry and it's a Buddust shrine in close visinity of Jaffna town. Wear white or plain colours and better go decently dressed.

The recorded history of the ancient temple is around 3rd century. At that time the 3 major tribes were living in sri lanka. (Naga, Yaksha, Deva). From that ‘Naga’ tribesmen requested the king to keep the sacred sapling of Jaya Sri maha Bodhi in jaffna for one week. As a result of that King Devanampya tissa agreed. The arranged place where the sapling was planted temporarily was also the Naga Vihara temple. Eventually the sapling was planted in Anuradhapura. It is believed that the original temple was built by King Devanampiya tissa. The king also constructed two more temples in Jaffna
