Excellent homestay. The host is really carrying and friendly. Homecocked breakfreast / dinner available. Quiet area, close to the center. Stayed there for two nights, we arrived late at night without booking in advance, we were welcomed with great hospitality althougt the host was having two old friends that he hasn't seen in a couple of years. Scooter renting is also possible and absolutely recommend for Jaffna and the sorrounding islands.

The best local breakfast all over Sri Lanka! Mahishe Cottage is a small, nice hostel - the owner is a great person which helps a lot with planning sightseeing. Thank you!

Great value for the price. Calm place with welcoming host. Clean room and very good breakfast. He speaks good English and provides useful information about touring Jaffna. Very good overall experience.

I have to say that Mahishe Cottage offers best hospitality and service in Jaffna. The place is situated about 3.5 KM east from the train station in a quiet neighborhood. Owner Dinesh and his wife is really helpful and pleasing to chat with. They offer home cooked breakfast and I must say it is the tastiest Indian food I have ever tasted, far exceeding the food offered in Colombo's best Indian restaurants. If you traveling there in train like I did, you can ask Dinesh for tuk contacts and van contacts to go around Jaffna.

Very good homely place to stay in Jaffna. We were coming from a very tiring couple of days in Kilinochchi. The place and the rooms were quite a surprise for us. We occupied a room with 2 beds (One single/One Double) and the room was quite spacious and amazingly clean. The bathrooms also were also similarly spacious and clean. There is newly installed air conditioning and it will make sure that you are not exposed to the high temperatures and humidity. This is geographically placed in a suburban area which is very close to the main attractions in Jaffna. Nallur temple and Rio ice cream parlor is very close and less than 10 minutes drive. There are plenty of local restaurants that you can dine in or take out within 10 minutes of driving distance. The owner/caretaker is also very friendly and you will feel that you are being very well taken cared of. My stay was cut short to just one day but I wish I could staying few more nights and visit all the attractions around the city. I stayed with my wife and 2 kids who are 6 and 1+ years of age. Very safe place for kids and family too..

A great affordable place for a short stay; comfy, very clean and well maintained and a delicious traditional breakfast is provided every morning. The owner is also very helpful and able to answer any questions you might have about the area and will provide with a cab service if necessary. Also, free wifi (one that actually works) is always a plus:)

Friendly and helpful owner. The place is not close enough to walk to the main temple but you can take a tuktuk for around 150 rupees. We had to leave early in the morning but he made breakfast for us.
