It was a great experience to see the ancient sculpture and ancient design. But the fun part is the mirror gallery. One of the must visit places if you have an interest in historical sculpture and designing.

This museum, located near Dhubela, is one of the prime locations in the kingdom of Chhatrasal. It has many things related to the king like his clothes, cutlery, wagon, etc all still intact. Although this place doesn't seem to be highlighted properly as this is not maintained regularly by the state government. But a must visit place when you are exploring Bundelkhand.

Its a beautiful museum built by King Chhatrasal where the pieces of art from all over the Chattarpur district and few other places are collected for exhibition including the clothes, weapons and other objects related to the king and people of Bundelkhand. There is also Mastani Mahal built by the king for his adopted daughter Mastani.

This Museum can be reached by the road connecting Naugaon to Chhatarpur. This falls on right hand when coming from Naugaon. Set within the Dhubela Talab (Pond), a large water reservoir to serve the daily needs of people living in the fort, still exists. The narrow winding road going through The Dhubela Resort leads to a more open parking lot. And there is this Museum set amidst the lush green lawns sprawling all around. The entry fee for Indian Nationals is INR 20/= while for Foreigners this is INR 200/=, and one have to pay additional 100/= for Camera and 400/= for video camera per day. Inaugurated on 12/09/1955 by Jawahar Lal Nehru as State Museum, Dhubela, The museum mainly have some rare and beautifully carved stone figurines from the bygone era. Ranging from 10th century till 12th century. And includes a variety of intricately carved figures of gods and deities collected from the surrounding areas. The entire collection is divided into different galleries e. g. Jain Gallery, Inscription Gallery, Shiv Gallery & so on. The Inscription gallery has a large stone inscription which is the main attraction is beautifully carved and is preserved well. In the center, there is a metal statue of Maharaja Chhatrasal, and is surrounded by miscellaneous broken pieces of stonework here & there. There is one weapon gallery and Mirror gallery also which carries a lot of rumors in the surrounding areas. In all a must see for Indian Art lovers and if you are visiting Khajuraho, this museum is not to be missed.

This is barely 50-60 Kms from the world heritage monuments of Khajuraho yet it is so underappreciated that I didn't get to hear about this while living just a few Kms from it for 6 months. Anyways when I got here, (Connectivity is very poor, you'll have to rely on own car or hired taxi) I was amazed to see the vast heritage this museum and the surrounding places hid. The artifacts ranged from sculptures from 10th century to paintings and dresses as recent as 18th century and everything in between. Entry charge is 20 Rs per person and additional ticket worth 50 Rs need to be bought for photography Just besides the museum is Mastani Mahal, in shambles due to negligence it faced for years, with people scribbling anything and everything on the walls. The monuments for Maharaj Chhatrasal and his wife are nearby too as are plenty of other historically significant places but all unmaintained and in bad state, with people using them for loitering and as their personal drinking dens. The whole region didn't even boast of a single decent restaurant. The place has lots of potential, but sadly as of now, it hasn't been tapped into at all.
