Never been to a Catholic church before. But this one really catches my eye. The gothic style of this building really suits the theme of the old Roman Catholic. My experience here was amazing. The vibes and the people here really make the atmosphere feel so unique.

(Translated by Google) Missing worship here, the last time is Christmas 2019 miss the Maria cave too Since the Covid-19 pandemic I have not been able to worship directly, usually online but not focused too hehe According to current health protocols, it is mandatory to wear masks, check the temperature, people who will participate in worship are limited, and social distancing is also applied. Hopefully this pandemic will end soon, everyone will be in normal and healthy condition, continue to have normal worship again (Original) Rindu ibadah disini, terakhir waktu Natalan 2019 doang rindu ke goa Maria nya juga Sejak pandemi covid-19 udah gabisa ibadah langsung, bisanya online tapi ngga fokus juga hehe Sesuai protokol kesehatan banget sekarang, wajib pakai masker, cek suhu, umat yang akan mengikuti ibadah dibatasi, social distancingnya juga diterapkan. Artistic church from Holland reign in Indonesia. Normally used for weekly mass, but in weekdays you still can go inside to pray or take pictures. There's a little museum beside the church. Free admission. You just have to write down your name in the guest book. Inside you can find the history of the church. And there's Maria cave to pray just beside of the church office. 10/10 would come back. (for pray or take pictures)

Praise the Lord! Attending a Mass here when I was in Jakarta. Love the Gothic style of the building. And the good news is, no need a registration to attend the Mass for visitors from outside Jakarta.

A Roman cathedral executed in neo-Gothic style around 1900 in central Jakarta. Nice paintings on the walls and rather poor lighting. The passage to the altar was closed.

The place is just AWESOME... Structure-wise it is awe-inspiring for me... I love the interior, its intricacies.. I like how solemn it is inside and how tourists come here to pray. It is every bit as classy as it looks... Across it is the grand mosque but I would never recommend tourists to go there.. All you ever get are glares and unfriendliness especially if you are brown. If you would really like to to check it out, wear something that covers every part of you esp if you are a woman. What I had on was a sleeveless top and long pants and even though I only intented to be outside it, people were glaring daggers on me....

(Translated by Google) The cathedral church is the most historic place of worship for Christians. The cathedral church is opposite the Istiqlal mosque in central Jakarta and close to the banteng field and Monas. But for 2021, January 1, the cathedral church is again in a tunnel project to the Istiqlal mosque so when the project is finished, pedestrians don't have to cross if they want to go to the cathedral church or the Istiqlal mosque and the project is planned to be completed in the next 5 months of 2021 .. .

Very well preserved cathedral as compared to the one in Europe’s the detail of the inside has shown how this is well maintained similarly to the Europe Catholic Churches. The churches is free entrance and right opposite of the biggest mosque in Asia. A great way to show different gait can co-exist within a close distance! Beautiful structure still preserved from outside and very surprise to see such structures remains standing in good condition in Indonesia being the Muslim dominance !

Jakarta Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Jakarta, Indonesia, which is also the seat of the Roman Catholic archbishop of Jakarta, currently Archbishop Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo. Its official name "The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption". This current cathedral was consecrated in 1901 and built in the neo-Gothic style, a common architectural style to build churches at that time. The Jakarta Cathedral is located in Central Jakarta near Merdeka Square and Merdeka Palace, right in-front of the cathedral stands the Istiqlal Mosque. After the arrival of Dutch East India Company in 1619, the Roman Catholic Church was banned in the Dutch East Indies and was limited to Flores and Timor. The Netherlands was known to support Protestantism and tried to limit the influence and authority of the Holy See. During the Napoleonic Wars, the Netherlands, including the Dutch East Indies and its other colonies, fell under the control of the French Empire. In 1806, Napoleon Bonaparte installed his Catholic younger brother Louis Napoleon as the king of the Netherlands. Since then, the Catholic Church has been free to operate in the Dutch East Indies.

I never miss to visit the Cathedral whenever I am in Jakarta. Always loved how serene and peaceful here. Anybody can visit the Cathedral but the church closes around 7pm but you can still visit the grounds until 9pm to see it from outside or take photos.

Stumbled upon this beautiful cathedral in Jakarta while was walking from the Gedung Pos Ibukota. Luckily it was open was could visit it from the inside as well. Such mesmerising architecture and the sheer size of the cathedral. It was so peaceful inside and it felt like I should just sit there for some more time. Would highly recommend visiting this cathedral when in Jakarta.

Whether you're a tourist or a local, it's worth a visit to experience the serenity and appreciate the cultural richness.

I attended a local mass in the Indonesian language. This is located at the heart of Jakarta where any catholic people can visit. I hope they also have english mass for other foreign catholic people who can understand and sing praises. We live by faith even if we don't understand anything we can praise the Lord.

One of Jakarta's cultural heritages, this Cathedral is the seat of the local diocese and features a history that traces back to the 19th century. As it is, if you're visiting Jakarta for the historical spots, it's worth a visit. As a tourist destination, the interior provides an unique view of how Gothic architecture and wood can blend. Not much to do in the exterior if you aren't Catholic. There's a Shrine of Mary, a large open area for congregations and a smaller chapel. When we visited the other facilities such as the library and the merchandise shop wasn't open, I'm unsure whether that's because of COVID or weekend or I came during Mass.

Iconic and majestic, little small than i think or when i watch it on tv. But, it was beautiful from architecture perspective specially inside. Detailing of interior, shape, chorinthian pillars, wood sculpture, decoration, mosaic, it's like back to middle ages. My first destination as we visitting Jakarta and attending a Eucharist for first time in this place. The atmosphere was very calm and sacred, everyone also friendly. For first time i saw holy water sprayed from spray device, i think it because post pandemic effect people try to minimilize spreading of the virus. People or congregation was so a lots, not included tourist from local or international no need much time to every seat inside to full. So came early, 30 minutes or more before it started. Parking area not to large so some use roadside to park. We park at Dinas Penerangan TNI AD RI and got charged IDR.10.000 each car. Food stall, culinary stand, lined at pedestrian way so u can try some food or drinks in or take away. Build from 1901 AD with Neo Gotic Architecture like in Europe, this building was a preserved by goverment and became a heritage. Well maintenance and clean as one of the icon of Jakarta.

One of the oldest and largest catholic church in Jakarta. Astounded by its vast and beautiful architecture. It's a bit crowded for weekly mass, driving is not recommended if you want to attend the mass. Never underestimate Jakarta's Weekend traffic. It's unpredictable and finding parking spot is exhausting. Just take public transport. It's just 5-7 mins walking from Juanda train station & Transjakarta bus shelter, easy and stress free.

The Jakarta Cathedral, also known as Gereja Katedral Jakarta, is a beautiful and historic Roman Catholic cathedral located in the heart of Jakarta, Indonesia. Built in the early 20th century, the cathedral has a stunning neo-gothic design and stands as a prominent landmark in the city. One of the most striking features of the cathedral is its exterior, with its tall spires and intricate architectural details. The interior is equally impressive, with high ceilings, stained glass windows, and stunning murals and frescoes. The cathedral can seat up to 3,000 worshippers and is a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike. One of the unique aspects of the Jakarta Cathedral is its blend of Indonesian and European influences. The cathedral was designed by a Dutch architect and built by Indonesian craftsmen, resulting in a fusion of styles that is truly one-of-a-kind. Overall, the Jakarta Cathedral is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Jakarta. Its beautiful architecture and rich history make it a truly memorable experience. Whether you are a devout Catholic or simply appreciate beautiful buildings, the Jakarta Cathedral is worth a visit.

I have to say that this cathedral is MAGNIFICIENT. There are many things that fascinated me. First, the location of this cathedral is right in front of the grand mosque of Istiqlal. It is how wonderful to see these two different worship place standing side by side. Second, the architecture is very beautiful. It has nice detail that you can see from the outside. The design, ornaments, and the details inside the cathedral are so fascinating. It really looked like the cathedrals in Europe. Once I step inside the cathedral, the atmosphere is so relaxing and quiet. You do not hear anything from the traffic outside. There is one strong scent that smells really good. It is the smells of the candle. I guess it is white candles. Also, the cathedral is quite big which can provide a lot of seats. This cathedral is really a good place for praying, if you are a Catholic, they always conduct prayers on Christmas day or other monthly and weekly prayer. I also recommend this place for those who are not going to pray here, like me. It is worth it to visit the biggest cathedral in Jakarta and admire the beauty and every aspect of this cathedral. This cathedral is open for public. So, anyone can visit Jakarta Cathedral to take photos or sit on the bench while admiring the art. They have a museum too if you want to explore more about this Cathedral. This is a must-go place if you are travelling in Jakarta.

Jakarta Cathedral Church (The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven), is a large and old Roman Catholic church in Jakarta. This church building was inaugurated in 1901 and was built with neo-gothic architecture from Europe, which is the architecture that was very commonly used to build church buildings several centuries ago. The current church was designed and started by Pastor Antonius Dijkmans and the foundation stone was laid by Provicaris Carolus Wenneker. This work was then continued by Cuypers-Hulswit when Dijkmans could not continue, then it was inaugurated and blessed on April 21, 1901 by Mgr. Edmundus Sybradus Luypen, SJ, Apostolic Vicar of Jakarta. You can come to visit to worship, also pray in the Maria Cave (for Catholics), or just see the architectural beauty of the oldest cathedral church in Indonesia, and see its history at the Cathedral Museum there.

The biggest cathredal in Jakarta (probably). This neo gothic style architecture is similar like medieval Europe, and it is beautiful and blend perfectly with modern Jakarta. This complex divided into 2: museum and prayer site. Although you can not move freely in prayer site, you can ask and do many activities in the museum. You can learn many things from its history, and how gospel started in Indonesia

This is a historical site that preserve as cultural heritage. Gothic church building with steel tower resemble the mix of concrete architecture and steel art. However with all respect to the pastoral need, the new and additional buildings are not match with the elegant gothic style. The distance to each building also ruin the magestic aura of the old building. What a pity!

Its my first time seeing Catedral by myself. Usually, I go to Istiqlal mosque from the other side which near by busway station. But I came in perfect timing I guess, since the ambience and the weather is beautiful. I don't know exactly what is inside, but I love the building style. It has a Europe vibes. Btw, there is a new connecting underground tunnel from Istiqlal and The Catedral. Contain some paintings. But as long as I know, its still close for public. I don't know.

Beautiful Roman Catholic cathedral, you can come to see the stained glass, statue, the doors and enjoying the architecture of it, they have function hall here for wedding and other ceremony, I haven't go inside of it cause I come to have parking during Friday Salah in the mosque of Istiqlal thanks for it May be next time when they open this as public attraction I can see more, one suggestion for the guard to be equipped with Garret metal detector as this one is standard for now everywhere
