I was here on Sunday noon but seems the building is closed so I can't see the interior. The outside facade looks great, really Dutch colonial style on every details. Some parts needs to be maintained, though. Since it's hugely renovated in 1987. This place located near the busway station and the famous Passer Baroe (Pasar Baru). I can't see any trashbin outside so it's wise to keep your own rubbish until you find a nearby one. #ecolifestyle #letsguide #localguides

One word when we got here. WOWW..! For cleanliness, for tidiness, and for the building it is still very well maintained, the parking lot is also wide, the location is strategic, there are lots of cafes and places to eat again.😍

A venue with accoustic wall around the auditorium and a great place to watch orchestra... Before now, in the both foyers there're pictures of performing art which was happened in Gedung Kesenian Jakarta so it's like time capsule when you're entering the foyers. Too bad now the pictures (photos) was taken by the Gedung Kesenian Jakarta Management. Previously, watching in this building had added value because not just any artist could perform in Gedung Kesenian Jakarta . But now as long as you pay you can perform here... It's not the same anymore...

Came here to attend Jakarta Walking Tour by JGG. I learned quite a lot of history regarding this building as well as the relationship with the buildings nearby. It located strategically near Katedral Church, Istiqlal Mosque, Banteng Park, etc. There's also a mushala for muslim behind the building.

(Translated by Google) The Jakarta Arts Building is an old building from the historical heritage of the Dutch government which still stands firmly in Jakarta. Located at Jalan Gedung Seni No. 1 Central Jakarta. The building is a place for artists from all over the archipelago to showcase their artistic creations, such as drama, theater, film, literature, and so on. [1] This building has a neo-renaissance-style building built in 1821 in Weltevreden which was then known as Theater Schouwburg Weltevreden, also known as the Comedy Building. [2] The idea for this building came from the Governor General of the Netherlands, Daendels. Then realized by the Governor General of England, Thomas Stamford Raffles in 1814. [3] This historic building was formed in the empire style by the architect of the Jeni VOC officer Major Schultze. [4] This luxurious-looking building was used for the first Pemoeda Congress (1926). And, in this building also on August 29, 1945, the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Soekarno inaugurated the Central Indonesian National Committee (KNIP) and then met several times in this building [5] Later it was used by the University of Indonesia, Faculty of Economics & Law (1951), and around 1957-1961 it was used as the Indonesian National Theater Academy (ATNI). Subsequently, in 1968 it was used as the "Diana" cinema and in 1969 the "City Theater" cinema. Only in 1984 was its function restored as the Arts Building (Decree of the Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta No. 24 of 1984). [6] This building was renovated in 1987 and began to use the official name Jakarta Arts Building. Previously this building was also known as Pasar Baru Arts Building and Gedung Komidi. [7] Candles and kerosene were used for lighting and then in 1864 gas lamps were used. In 1882 electric lamps began to be used for lighting in buildings. Terletak di Jalan Gedung Kesenian No. 1 Jakarta Pusat.

Visiting this old building again in Jan 2020 to watch an international art performance. Not much changed since my last visit a couple of years ago. It looks a bit old-fashioned, but when it comes to enjoy the performance it is okay. The accoustic is considered one of the best in Jakarta. The building facilities should be renovated to meet the high standard of a concert hall.

when i was in elementary school, i had the opportunity to perform in the choir at the Jakarta Arts Building. In my opinion, the stage and audience seats looked very luxurious and very aesthetic. However, at the back of the stage and the waiting area, it wasnt that great because a lot of the sofas were torn and the floors werent that clean

Why I love this place? 1. Because the atmosphere here embraces a distinct angle of art. It brings people to fall in love with art especially Indonesian culture. 2. That time there was a Simbad theater in here combining with traditional dances from Indonesia. It was terrific outstanding!! 3. You can see many foreigners here join to perform their talents that wrapped up with Indonesian traditional clothes and dancing. it brings Indonesian culture alive! 4. The building is good, the structure seems strong, and many photos around to preserve memories back then. 5. I can't say anything than "this is amazing!" Thanks to the government to preserve this old Dutch building.

I've been living for almost a year in Jakarta and never visited this place before. Okay, it's my fault. When I entered the gate I know that I'll be amazed and that's what happen to me. The architecture is so wonderful. It's very beautiful building. I visited this building for watching a theater show. Hopefully I would visit this place again to enjoy an orchestra concert. Can't wait to make that wish happen.

I love how deceivingly small the building looks from outside. Once you're inside you will be brought back to the 19th century. A quite spacious concert hall with chandelier, European statues, and rich history. One of the most well-kept time capsules that Jakarta has to offer.

A classic art and performance hall and stage. The building is just beautiful though need preservation. The lighting is well maintained. Located strategically in central jakarta. Reachable by busway and online transportation. Notice the limited parking lot.
