Kota Tua, or "Jakarta Old Town" (English) and "Oud Batavia" (Dutch), centered on Fatahillah square is now a lively place with traditional attractions, handicraft vendors, fortune tellers, food vendors and bicycle rental. There is no charge to enter this area. So that even during a pandemic like this, this place in the morning, afternoon and evening remains a recreational destination for local travelers. In the holiday season and weekends it will be more crowded.

Nice old city of Jakarta. A few museums and Cafe Batavia are there. Visitors can rent bicycle to cycle around. Good for kid educational as they will be able to learn the history and cultural of Indonesia. Strongly recommend to visit here when in Jakarta.

(Translated by Google) Ciamik Museum which is worth a visit in Jakarta. The location is just a stone's throw from Monas. Here, collecting a variety of historical objects, counting from the pre-history to the early independence period. Among the thousands of collections of objects and dioramas displayed in museums, the most interesting, of course, is the exhibition hall. In the room you can find various statues that have been collected since the colonial period. From the statues of Java, Sumatra to Kalimantan, everything is complete. The National Museum is divided into several rooms, each space distinguished by the mass of objects and types. It's really cool to scan this museum. Besides being able to increase knowledge, visiting the museum could be one of the activities to spend a week in Jakarta. Don't forget to take a portrait in front of the legendary elephant statue. That said, the name of the elephant museum stems from the existence of the statue. Oh yes, the museum entrance ticket is quite affordable though. There is a very adequate parking lot available. For those who use public transportation, take it easy, across from the museum there is a Transjakarta bus stop.

Lively square, nice atmosphere. Not too happy about all the opportunities to act Dutch (custome, bikes) because those days are over and were basically a bad thing.

If you come close to closing time, start from the topmost floor and work your way down because they would close that part first. I had a little over an hour left to explore and if you’re like me who wants to take more time looking at artifacts and maybe even reading inscriptions, maybe devoting half day is best so you can look around at a leisurely pace and yet cover everything.

After the restoration, all the way to go to the park are car free. So easy to access. If you go there by train, just take the right side gate. After that, cross a road and you'll see big sign "JAKARTA". There you go, just go forward along the way and you'll be arrive. This area is car free. You can visit some museums. The nearest are museum fatahillah, museum keramik, and museum wayang. On weekdays less people, but there will be lot of people in weekend and afternoon. The outdoor weather is quite hot, so don't forget to put on sun screen and bring water 😉 (there is a mini mart, café, and fast food). Enjoy

Taman Fatahillah, an enchanting city square located in the historic district of Kota Tua, Jakarta, is a gem that encapsulates the city's vibrant past. Stepping into this captivating open space is like traveling back in time to relive the grandeur of Jakarta's rich heritage. Surrounded by stunning colonial-era buildings, Taman Fatahillah exudes an air of nostalgia and charm. The well-preserved architecture, adorned with intricate details, serves as a testament to the city's layered history. From the iconic Jakarta History Museum (Museum Sejarah Jakarta) to the beautiful Cafe Batavia, every corner of this square holds stories waiting to be discovered. As you wander through the square, you'll encounter various street vendors selling local delicacies and handicrafts. The bustling energy adds to the authenticity of the experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves fully in the vibrant atmosphere. For history enthusiasts, Taman Fatahillah offers an abundance of knowledge and insights into Jakarta's past. The Jakarta History Museum, housed in the beautifully restored City Hall building, showcases a wide range of artifacts, photographs, and exhibits that shed light on the city's colonial era. The museum provides a captivating glimpse into Jakarta's transformation throughout the centuries.

One of the best museums in Jakarta It’s a beautiful place filled with many interesting and historical items depicting the richness and variety of Indonesia’s culture. My favorite part is the jewelry collection and the historical parts from many parts of Indonesia. We occasionally use some venues in this lovely Museum for events, including the UN day celebration

Not the best museum but it was ok. There were very few descriptions. Some were made in English but even google translate would have done a better job. They close really early so try to go in the morning or directly after lunch. Could also use some renovations, especially in the statue part.

I did not expect this museum to be really big. It has 6 floors judging from the numbers inside the lift (I managed only until the 4th floor). On the first floor you can find a lot of collection of ancient statues, rocks and writing ranging back to the era of Majapahit empire. As you go up to the second floor, it will display some of the collection of bones and even skeleton of pre-historic life found in Indonesia. The third floor will display more about daily life accessories & clothing from various region of the country. And on the 4th floor (please be aware that no camera or taking picture is allowed) and that is because this is probably the most expensive part of the museum : its displaying a lot of real ancient ceramics (believe me a lot of them) mainly from China. And as you go to the other room you will find some of the real golds accessories origins from Indonesia. The place is indeed full of knowledge, beauty & wisdom about the history of Indonesia. I would recommend everyone to visit this place to know more about this country and how rich this country is actually is.

This was a cool place to be... Although the people are not really English speaking, they are happy to point you where this place exactly is just through gestures! This square is a melting pot of heritage buildings... There are cute neon bicycles with headpieces for rent at a cheap price [sorry I forgot the exact amount] but budget travellers can surely afford it😅 At night, the square lights up, bands appear, and food stalls too! This is a definite MUST SEE in Jakarta! If yoy have a short layover, go visit this...

The center of Batavian Governor Office where you can feel how was living in the past of colonial era in Jakarta. This Neighborhood once called Kota Tua which is a remainder of Old Batavia, the first walled settlement of the Dutch in Jakarta area. It was an inner walled city with its own Castle. The area gained importance during the 17th-19th century when it was established as the de facto capital of the Dutch East Indies. This inner walled city contrasted with the surrounding villages, orchards, and rice fields. Dubbed "The Jewel of Asia" in the 16th century by European sailors, the area was a center of commerce due to its strategic location within the spice trade industry in the archipelago.

I came here on a regular day by train from Cikini Station to the last stop at Jakarta Kota Station. The atmosphere wasn't too crowded, and most of the tourists were students. The weather was also very hot. I suggest wearing comfortable clothing and bringing sunglasses or a hat to protect yourself from the heat. There are many aesthetic cafes around here, and a mosque as well, making it suitable for spending some time while learning about history with friends.

This place is one of the heritage vacation spots in Jakarta which is always crowded during national holidays, this place is quite easy to reach and is located in the heart of Jakarta. We can reach this place by private vehicle, or even public transportation such as trains and buses. The place looks like a big square with Dutch buildings from the colonial era surrounding the area. There are several museums in places that we can visit, with fairly cheap entry tickets. We can also find some street vendors around so we don't have to worry about hunger. There is no entrance ticket to visit the plaza, only parking fee if you bring your own vehicle.

A landmark free to enter, an heritage building from Colonial era. Known as Fatahillah Park, more like one big complex of government building for administration and economics interest. With a large open space or plaza and four cannon facing to north this one of the tourist destination in Jakarta was a City Hall, Court, Religious Event, Goverment Center, ect back in time. At a north of the park there's old trail of rail with explanation about it also old cannon with strange symbol in the back, near the City Hall u can found old bunker submerged by water. This is why if u take a walk then u can see it's like a surrounded by massive buildings and many infrastructure. Visitting it feel like time travel to the past, old architecture, facinating historical heritage, atmosphere of past time, the smell of old material and the tale that keep echo thru the time. Some tourist i meet came from decendant of their ancestor who was a invader and they visitting for nostalgic reason. Some just to explore and documentation or vacation. Today, all building although being renovated or has been renovated was shifted to another fuction like Museum, Art Exhibition, Post Office, Restaurant, Cafe, Office, Food Court, Culinary Stall, ect. Faciility available, from toilet, disability needs, minimarket, except for parking area is harsh because they don't provide it near so need to park far away (private car). But if u came by online car or taxi just stop at roadside then walk in. My suggestion is don't try to looking for parking area around or else u will need to driving around more and more just wasting time, if lucky u can park at post office indoor parking area but almost full all the time beacuse too small or park at parking slot that provide by people around with expensive rates about IDR.20.000 each car. If u intend to take a picture, make a video, or enjoy this place with peaceful then came in the morning 8am beause at 3pm or more it will be crowded as hell, specially on the weekend, holiday, big day, or day of event. Attraction from decorated bicycle, models, custom figure, action figure, magic show, street band, music, dance, light show, ect can be found mostlynat night. Beware for pick pocket and thief or scam because some area get more light while another too dark so watch for ur belongings. Rates for meals was standard, i ate with my family for IDR.100.000 and we got Kebuli Rice with big chop of chicken and dates, soto bogor (like soup withnlota of condiment), snack and four drinks at resto in post office building. I don't know with KFC or another cafe or food stall rates around. Well maintenance and clean is a key to protect and maintain this area and of course awarness from tourist and people all around. So good hunting, travellers.!

The first museum I visited when I came to Jakarta! It has a lot of interesting objects and stories about Indonesia that you will definitely find interesting. I like all those big statues from temples, look so magical and ancient and a bit scarying as well :). they have tour and guide as well and there are a few floors you can explore. I like the story about Indonesia's ancient kingdoms and some of their remnants. Don't miss it when you are in Jakarta. You can reach this place using taxi, online taxi and Trans Jakarta Bus. Stop at National Museum or Museum Gajah or Museum Nasional. The ticket is also cheap, I forgot how much though.

A must visit if you're in Jakarta, many museums and good places to take pictures. Come here at lunch time around 1-2 PM, less people around and get better photos. At noon it's very crowded by local tourists. There's also bicycles to rent, to ride around this hall

Kota Tua is one of great places to visit in Jakarta. You can go here by Commuter Line. Here, you will see many old buildings and museum, a nice place to take some pics. You can also find many traditional food stalls. But make sure that you go here before noon, because it was so hot when I arrived there (about 11 am).

The square is crowded during the Chris day. Many street Hawkers selling food and souvenirs.. better don’t try to eat if you have weak stomach. You can rent their bicycle to cycle around. Sometime there’s the street performer there to perform their music. Some cafes and restaurants surround the square. This is a typical square used for some rallies in the past for election or war..

  • 5/5 Phisa R. 4 years ago on Google
It’s pretty and crowded. The colorful bikes are such an eye catching. There’s a KFC and post office nearby which is good if you wanna send postcard. The hilarious thing about Indonesia is I found a lots of souvenir shop which sell beautiful postcard everywhere but they don’t sell stamp. Tips for postcard lovers, buy your desire postcard from those souvenir shop and get the stamp from the post office. Don’t expect to buy the postcard at the post office since the postcard there are super limited and the photo on the postcard are in horrible quality.

Actually just a big square but wuth a magical atractions. Mingle with the locals, watxh the old buildings, learn about the Dutch Colonial tines and be confronted with it. Walk around, its nit Singapore or Hongkong, but it has it charm. Lots of work still need to be done, but it has started to change.

  • 5/5 Stewart 1 year ago on Google
A great place to visit, It is a large square with Dutch Colonial buildings. There are cool museums there and the people there that work there were really friendly and helpful. Also there are great restaurants in this area too. I went there during the week and it was not crowded. So to avoid the crowds go there during the week instead of the weekends as that square gets too crowded.

  • 4/5 Muhammad L. 1 year ago on Google

Lack of services, caffès, and supermarkets. The people look vitally interactive in this urban area. I wished to see other relevant services to the visitors such as restrooms, outdoor seating areas, umbrellas in order to prevent the hot sunshine etc.

💢 One of the place that you have to visit in Jakarta. It has lots of history & museum to visit. All of the museum closed on Monday & operating from 10am to 3pm. If you are a history person than you must come here & spend your day. 💢 There are one tourist information center nearby here that you can get any information & booklets to plan your trips. Definitely worthy visit. 💢 It can get crowded during weekend or evening because this is one of the sunset spot. You can cycle around, enjoying the music & foods around this area. 💢 It is accessible by train at Jakarta Tua Station, only 7-min walking or by e-hailing such as Grab, Gojek or bus.

I've been twice now, once during the day and then again in the evening the next night. During the day, it was full but not overwhelming. Could use some shade though. Plant 👏 some 👏 trees👏!! The next visit in the evening was cool because so many people were gathered to hangout and listen to music, however I just didn't feel very comfortable. Getting lots of stares, people walking closely behind me. Plus there is lots of trash scattered on the ground, the fountain in the middle is stagnant and everything just seems smelly.
