We lived such an amazing experience with Aldy! The puppet studio was closing when we arrived, but we knocked at the door and Aldy received us anyway. He showed us his family's art, his life, his puppets and even granted us with a private amazing puppet show ! He's so passionate about his work that we didn't notice that we stayed almost two hours inside his studio. A place to recommend for sure, he even performs show at Embassies. Wow. If you get to Kota Tua in Jakarta you MUST stop and meet Mr Aldy. He is so much fun and has such a passion for Wayang! He is a true craftsman and you will learn so much about the work that goes into each puppet and about what goes into a real Wayang Kulit performance. We had such a good time and the puppets he and his uncle make are beautiful. And DON’T miss the short performance! Definitely a Jakarta MUST SEE! I hope to stop and see Aldy next time I’m in Jakarta!

Short Story Shadow puppet show in English and Selling puppets(leather & wood puppets)/TOKO WAYANG

Lovely wayang kulit studio. We saw a short puppet show, were told of the different characters, and learned a bit about the process of making the puppets. It is important to text or call before visiting if you will go on your own (without being on a tour). Lovely experience!

The owner very kindly showed us how the pupets are made, very interesting and beautifull. It is really unique for Jakarta. I would not find this amazing workshop by myself so the tour guide Ekapatura helped us.

Pak Aldy is wonderful. His workshop has beautifully hand crafted puppets. It’s clear how passionate he is about wayang and Javanese culture, and how much he loves sharing it with his visitors. I would highly recommend this for anyone in Jakarta looking for an authentic experience!

He learned from his father who learned from his father…..he excels and is passionate about his art. This a magical experience for families with children as well as adults/couples.

An adorable little treasure trove of traditional wayang puppets. Just turn up and Aldi, the amazing puppet creator and master, will tell you about his job and show you his collection of puppets completely free of charge. A lovely little way to know more about this ancient art form.

So talented and fascinated about puppets lovely man will spare his time and will show his masterpieces for you free of charge. You can take pictures, ask questions or even buy a beautiful puppet. Very welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. When people love what they do, everybody loves it. Highly recommend!!!

Beautiful tiny gem in the Batavia Old City area. Aldy the owner gave us a 10 minute shadow puppet show in English and the puppet collection is reasonably priced.

Aldy is a master of his (unfortunately dying) craft and a true gentleman. I cannot recommend a visit to his studio more. It was fascinating!
