Delicious Swedish meatballs with mash. Great place and amazing service. I don't think I saw any local and all full of tourists (probably because of the Easter bank holiday), but the fact that it was super busy and long queue of people waiting to get in makes you think that it's going to be good and oh yeah it was. And glad I tried. The staff was very friendly and polite from the beginning which makes a very nice environment. The food was very very tasty. The meatballs were perfectly cooked, the gravy and the mash was flavourful. The good thing about having a small menu is that they can perfect the dishes they serve. Worth visiting and trying the food and have something to drink too.

A charming hole-in-the-wall restaurant that doesn’t take reservations, Stockholms Gästabud serves Swedish traditional cuisine that is absolutely worth waiting in line. We only had to wait for about 20 minutes for a table to free up, but would’ve still felt good about our choice if we’d had to wait a full hour. We were particularly impressed by their herring 3 ways and their traditional meatballs, but the reindeer salad was beautiful and light and the homemade sausage was also cooked to perfection. If you are looking for a charming, boutique experience and to try very well prepared authentic dishes, this is the place. Just come prepared for a line!

Fantastic authentic Swedish food right around the corner from the royal palace. The mushroom cream cheese is very decadent, they frame it as a feature of a salad when in fact it's a large portioned dip (would split one order of it with two people, but had no problem finishing it myself). I also ordered their classic sausage served with potatoes in a cream gravy and pickled beets. Next time I'd love to try their meatballs and see how they compare to the sausage - both looked absolutely incredible. The staff is very friendly and welcoming and the drink selection is vast! This is a must visit for people visiting Stockholm for the first time in search of local fare.

Small quaint restaurant. No reservations as it’s first come first serve, which is great because it gives you a sense that the restaurant is never available to seat walk ins. The food was delicious! Swedish meatballs were so tasty and meaty and flavorful. The pork cheek was unbelievably tender and also tasty. Great mashed potatoes. We also had the reindeer salad as an appetizer which was also nice! Great Swedish flavors here!

There are all of about 10 tables in this restaurant, and it is done in a way that's doesn't feel crammed into a small space. If I could have ordered 1 of everything on the menu, I would have. The meatballs are great, pork cheeks melt when you touch them with a fork, and the starter mushroom & cheese salad is my new favorite thing. Not to mention, my new summer drink will be a Sweden Spritz. If you haven't had one, you're missing out.

On rear occasions food is that good that it makes you a happier person. On a pittoresque, tucked away location in one of the narrow streets of the old town, you can find such a place. This one. The traditional Swedish cuisine was of highest quality, served in a relaxed atmosphere by a sweet and professional staff.

(Translated by Google) Here you can eat really good Swedish home cooking, with very good service. You can also come and hang out at the bar and have a nice chat with, for example, the owners. Not many restaurants where the owners care and are on site and take responsibility. In other words, Stockholm's Gästabud recommends!

It has some of the highest ratings for a reason. A small restaurant, but very cosy, in the national style. Cozy minimalism. The service is very friendly and attentive. Service is excellent. The food is very good quality and tasty. Great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this place to try the local cuisine.

Average to good taste, friendly service, prices seemed average but I'm not local. Seems there's usually a wait. Tried the cod, and a friend tried one of the meat dishes, think it was the pork cheek. They liked their pork more than we liked the cod. Found the cod fish overall to not have as much taste, maybe we sounds have picked the meatballs instead.

Great great great spot for a proper Swedish experience and food. Tucked away in an old part of one of the islands, it's in a very cute area. If you go after sun set the streets are cutely lit and it feels like you have gone back in time. Expect to wait in a queue. You can not book a table and it's a very popular spot. The staff are great! So friendly and helpful, and very efficient! The menus is a VERY classic Swedish selection and it tastes DEVINE! its a TINY restaurant with about 7 or 8 tables so no space for an open or or a high chair but you can have your child on your lap between you on one of the bench seats if you have one like we did. The dishes are great but there is no veg. The pork cheek was lots of pork (which is great) but packed some veg. All in all we would definitely come back!

Great food and service. It is a very small restaurant with warm atmosphere. Has limited seating due to size of the restaurant. Don't go there if you are in a hurry to get somewhere else afterwards since it is almost impossible not to wait to be seated. We've enjoyed both the food and the friendly service.

Excellent date night in here last Saturday. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the atmosphere was bubbly for a Saturday night. Serving traditional Swedish dishes, this place is not to be missed if visiting for a weekend. Thank you very much, I’d highly recommend !

This may be the best international meal I've ever had. The food was incredible. We had pickled herring and moose meat for a starter. For our main dishes we had salted salmon, butter fried salmon, beef cheek, and swedish meatballs. Everything was amazing and the prices were reasonable for how much food we got with each serving.

Amazing food!! This tiny restaurant offers traditional dishes at an amazing quality. Prices are fair and the atmosphere is very cozy. I recommend the meatballs and the salmon

Outstanding Swedish restaurant in the old town of Stockholm. I ordered the meatballs and it was delicious. The service is very friendly and expedite. The place is small, it can fill up pretty quickly and might be a bit difficult to find a table during traditional peak hours. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want to have a traditional food experience while you are visiting.

Cosy location in the old city. Friendly staff. We went for a snack around 4 PM after being bared from the Nobel Prize Museum on that day (too many people). The place was empty and quiet. Our order was limited to beer and 2 dishes: one with the overall famous Köttbullar, and the other with a Swedish sausage. Bot delicious. The menu is small, and everything looks good on it. Service is quick and friendly.

Below expectations. Food was okay but definitely not 4.7 as the reviews indicate. Moose starter was a bit bland. The next door restaurant “Tradition” is way better. On Saturday evening we queued over 45 mins to get the table in Gästabud.

Highly recommend- worth all the hype on trip advisor! I searched for meatballs, just like you are now, in Stockholm and saw this gem of a place rated very high on Trip Advisor. Put it on my ‘to do’ list when visiting Stockholm and my goodness. Mouthwatering, delicious, spectacular! Best meatballs I’ve ever had. You cannot book ahead, we arrived just at opening time and we were very lucky we turned up when we did (so go early) beautiful hosts too, thank you for this deliciousness!!!

Stumbled to this place by chance when visiting the old town; we heard someone utter praises to the place while exiting the resto after lunch and decided to enter. Was the best meal we had in Stockholm. It served local food in a local setting - small quaint restaurant served by three local friendly ladies. The resto is almost always full and they would let you sit in the bar (if the bar has seats, if it doesn’t unfortunately you have to stand, but they serve beer while waiting). The good is truly Swedish. The best herring I had. The best Skagen. The herring was served in three different styles and it was simply delicious, served with dill and some other vegs - to balance the taste. I had the salmon for mains and it was cooked to perfection: slightly crispy outside and soft and slightly rare inside. My partner’s meatballs were rich with flavors with the blend of meats. The cranberries were not too sour and has some slight sweetness to blend with the meats. Definitely recommend this place if you would like to experience Swedish food alongside the atmosphere.

Nice spot discovered by exploring Google reviews. Hearing served three different ways and traditional meatballs (kids portion) were excellent. Staff was friendly, attentive, and polite. Worth the wait for a table or pull up at the bar and converse with staff. If your not a fan of fishy hearing this is the place to try it. It was served pickled, mustard, and cognac.

Excellent local cuisine. Visiting Stockholm for the first time, staying in Norrmalm near the train station and so glad we took the 20min walk to Old Town to have dinner here. Small place with a few tables and bar, local feel. Staff and service amazing and of course the food was great!

We came just before 5pm and there were like 3 free tables. The food was incredible. We had 3 starters and I think it was quite a good amount of food for 2 hungry people. My favorite was the fish soup. Jansenns (might have gotten the name wrong) delight was also delicious and the shrimp toast was yummy too, lots of mayo. Very good bread. Nice staff. I would say the food is worth the wait if you come in a busy time.

Quite possibly one of the best, if not the best meals I've ever had! I cannot get over just how impressive the food is here. Everything is delicious, as close to perfection as I've ever had. The quaint restaurant, with 4 people on staff makes you feel honey and comfortable, while they bring you amazing dish after dish! They're so friendly, making guests laugh and enjoy great food in good company. I can't recommend this place enough, it's WELL worth the wait (as there's usually a line). Be sure to ask them about their glowing lipsticks ;)!

Best Swedish meatballs around! Apart from the fact that the restaurant was so busy that we waited outside in 0C temperature for 45 minutes, the meatballs were worth the wait! To warm us up the kind member of staff gave us boiling water, but my whole body felt frozen. Definitely worth a visit, but make sure you go early to avoid staying out in the cold. Taste = 9/10 Customer service = 9/10 Atmosphere = 9/10 Value = 8/10 Overall = 9/10

Such a great place for gastronomic delight and very friendly staff too. We ordered the pickled herring which was amazing, the perfect combination of sweet and sour combined with the salty bits of the cheese served with it. Deer salad is a must for swedish experience and for mains we had the pork cheeks- melts in your mouth goodness. We also had the salmon which is cooked to perfection. For dessert we had the sponge cake- highly recommended. Probably the best restaurant in Stockholm.

Amazing food! Come at 4 pm when it just opened. Salmon is a bit bland but it’s very tender. The meatballs are flavorful and pairs well with the mashed potatoes, lingonberry sauce, and pickles. The pork is also delicious; the sauce tastes like unreduced red wine and makes the pork more refreshing. Reindeer salad is mid - this is the only thing I will not order again. Service is top notch. Quick and efficient, no extra chitchats, and gave us mint chocolates in the end. I will definitely come back, if there’s no queue.

I hate standing in lines for food but in this case it is completely worth the effort! We waited ca. 45 mins because the restaurant is pretty small and cozy. The toast with shrimps was fresh, light and sooo tasty! We also tried out the fish soup which contained a lot of seafood. You really could taste the freshness and high quality of the ingredients.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is a delightful step into the past, with its cozy, vintage decor that oozes charm and nostalgia. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, making it the perfect place for a memorable meal. I was recommended this place by a lot of locals and guides. Fortunately for me, there was a single-person table in one of the corners. They take no reservation so it's luck in peak hours and you have to wait outside. I was welcomed by two lovely ladies who operated the entire front. Now, onto the star of the show: the food. The meatballs at this restaurant are nothing short of legendary. They are the epitome of Swedish comfort food, tender, flavorful, and served with a heavenly cream sauce that's simply to die for. Each bite was a taste of culinary perfection, and it's easy to see why they're renowned. The shrimp toast here is equally exceptional. It's crispy on the outside and bursting with flavor. The combination of succulent shrimp and a delectable sauce is great. It's an absolute must-try for seafood enthusiasts just like everything else here.

Waiter was probably having a bad day. He basically told us he had nothing we could eat with one with a gluten allergy and another with a dairy allergy. We had to talk him into accommodating us. Then he assumed both were allergic to both. He even tried to warn us against ordering Lox, as if we tourists didn't understand what it was. I grew up on it, so that was funny. His attitude really ruined our experience. The place is so cool looking and the food was quite good.

Came here on New Year's Eve and the queue was a bit long. The waiters in the store were very cute and kept joking with us, which made the dining atmosphere very good. But the meatballs didn't feel as delicious as other reviews said. On the contrary, the mashed potatoes topping were so delicious that I was impressed.Although the fish soup is a big bowl, it tastes a bit like miso soup, which is not what I expected.

We were very lucky to only have a 5-10 min queue to dine in at this lovely place in Gamla Stan. We came around 2 pm~ on a chilly day and unfortunately the group before us had managed to snatch away the last order on the Fish Soup that I was looking forward to. Instead I ordered the beetroot salad and my partner opted for the meatballs. Needless to say the food cured any disappointed feelings I had prior to it. Everything was full of flavor, fresh and very tasty. Highly recommend to give it a shot, even if there is a queue.

Bravo Stockholms Gästabud!! Terrific experience from the service to the food. Three meatballs come smothered in gravy with mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and pickles. Meatballs were tender; easily cut with just a fork. My fiancee got the beet salad which came with a generous portion of beets, cheese and homemade bread. Ciders were also tasty. We got along nice with the staff and told them my fiancee and I had just got engaged. A beautiful dessert was sent to the table at the end of our meal. No line to get in and the lunch service was quick.

I debated giving this place 5* - the food is great if you’re looking to experience Swedish cuisine. We had the moose starter which was incredible, the shrimp starter which was good - a little dill heavy but Swedes love dill... we also had the pork cheek which was incredibly tender and the butter pan fried salmon which was really good. Staff are really friendly and we had a short wait for a table but had some drinks in the time. The reason I’ve given 4* is because I felt the atmosphere was a little flat. Not sure if that’s because the place is quite small or due to the diners being very quiet. In comparison to a couple of other Swedish restaurants I’ve been to in the area I felt the atmosphere was a little bit less lively. However, this doesn’t take away from the great food and lovely staff and we had a great evening tasting some lovely dishes!

Nice and helpful staff. Considering they were really busy during the lunch time, they were quite efficient and quick. Meatballs were delicious. I ordered salmon and it was probably one of the best I've ever tried. Someone described it as melting in you mouth and i agree. I think this is a must go place for swedish cuisine if you're staying in Stockholm. Highly recommend.

Very good food and nice service. I ordered the moose carpaccio on their recommendation - it was excellent! The butter seared salmon was perfect too. This place is not big, and fills up pretty quickly! I got there at noon which is when they open, was first customer in and within 3 minutes it was full and a line formed outside very quickly. Highly recommended, and I will go back if I can!

Place gets very busy during dinner! We were a group of 5 and was told it could take 1-2 hrs before there was a table for all of us so we should split up, but she ended up pulling us in before 2 other 2ppl groups and we ended up having a table of 6! Very much appreciated after waiting for an hr! The other waitress was also very nice. Service was basically top notch. The food is also good! They’re all of good portions so it was worth it. We got the meatballs, rib eye, and pork cheek. One thing about the pork cheek is that the sauce is very heavy on what I assume is balsamic vinegar, which isn’t a personal favourite of mine.

I came here with my family because of the high praise on the meatballs in Stockholm Sweden. Absolutely delicious and the gravy helps with the flavours. Mash is plenty with a small amount of lingonberries and pickles. Starter was the moose meat, which I'd never had or heard of before in the UK, and it was very nice. Lightweight and with the strawberry sauce, light garnish and overall great taste. Covid safe with hand sanitizer and distance is recommended, even though it's a small restaurant. 100% recommend coming to Gamla Stan for this restaurant whilst visiting Sweden.

We tried the toast skagen, the Swedish meatballs, and the salmon and all of them were the best we had during our stay. The atmosphere was very cosy, staff were very friendly and it had a lovely location on Gamla Stan.

Not worth the hype. We chose this restaurant due to the ratings online. The food was good (especially the raspberry desert) considering there aren't many other options for Swedish cuisine in Stockholm. The food came fast but it took a while to take our empty plates and give us the bill... quite strange considering there was a line outside.

With a prestigious name like this and the location in the beautiful Gamla Stan I had high hopes on giving my taste buds an adventure. However, that scenario did not happen unfortunately. This could have been better in so many ways. With a steamed cod with over cooked watery potatoes one we're left to imagine a more dreamy scenario that didn't exist at this establishment. The salmon was a bit dry and salty. The only thing here that had a hint of edge was the starter, smoked elk meat with lingonberries. So with that in mind we realized that this is one of those places that settled down and are comfy where they are at the moment. Hopefully they will get some kind of spark, fire and interest in refining and develop their menu to something more exciting and challenging for us guests. Fingers crossed. Time will tell.

Nice little restaurant with very friendly workers. Food is tasty, prices are reasonable but more towards high. I went there each and every time when I have been in Stockholm.

Delicious food. The restaurant is very small and the menu is also on the smaller side but everything we tried was delicious and the staff was friendly.

If you want to taste some authentic Swedish food and have a lovely time, this is the place! Service is great! Food is amazing and they will cater to your taste and take care of your allergies if you have any. Salmon is a must, also the beetroot Salad is fantastic. The Chef and the staff are lovely. I highly recommend this, good food, good portion and good price :)

Small restaurant in center of Stockholm serving traditional local dishes. Simple dishes of salmon and potatoes and Swedish meatballs but deliciously made. Many locals and tourists. Worth a visit. No reservations taken so you have to wait. Best is to go off peak hours.

An outstanding experience! The food was absolutely delicious, the staff (if you can even call them that, because they were like a long lost friend) were brilliant (I was also gifted this lovely cake by the owner), and the restaurant very cozy. If you’re in Stockholm this place needs to be on top of your list!

Wonderful staff, absolutely incredible food: meatballs, pork cheek and salmon were all incredible! So good that we went back twice in a row. Well worth the approx 30 minute wait at around 8pm on Saturday and Sunday for a table for two.

Food was incredible! Staffs were nice, fantastic service. Amazing restaurant for swedish food. But the restaurant is quite small, so u should've be prepared as there might be a (long) queue, but it's worth it 😃 I'll definitely come back!

We had a wonderful dinner at Stockholms Gästabud. The owners are really welcoming and friendly and the place has got a great atmosphere. The food itself was good. We ordered the slowcooked pork cheek as well as the Swedish sausage. It looks a bit plain, but it was good and we enjoyed it! Personally we like to keep to ourselves during dinner, but if you enjoy talking to people that run the restaurant I think you would really enjoy this place!

The food is really good. It's a small restaurant & you'll have to wait sometimes, but it is totally worth it. I tried the Swedish meatballs & butter-fried salmon. Both are very good. The dessert is also good.

Cute little place, very cosy with really amazing food. It's a must visit place, I think. Pro hint: you can be seated way faster if you need a table just for 2. So don't give up that fast 🙂

This was a charming restaurant and the owners were remarkable! The atmosphere is cozy, quiet, and homy and the location is great. Our food was out promptly and beautifully plated. Stockholm’s Gästabud offered some of the best food we’ve tried during our Stockholm trip. I highly recommend checking this place out.

I came here for the meat balls and they were delicious! So I can really recommend! I had a single expresso too, which wasn‘t my taste. But 5 stars for the food. Two things that could be a bit better: there is a strong smell of the kitchen in the restaurant and the queue to get in was long, I waited close to an hour to get in. But of course, that‘s not their fault, the food is just too good 😉 So be prepared when coming…

I had read the reviews before checking this place out and I definitely agree it's cozy and relaxed. My dinner was absolutely divine. I had the meatball dish/meal with a rhubarb& vanilla lemonade. Would definitely recommend this place. Its small but worth it. Luckily I was dinning alone, so got a seat right away. The service is good as they leave you to enjoy the experience of the restaurant and glorious food

Quirky dining experience. Be prepared to wait as no reservations taken. Definitely worth it though as food and staff were excellent. Would have gone again but we ran out of holiday!

10s, 10s, 10s across the board! The staff was super welcoming from the moment we stepped into the restaurant, although the place was very busy and we had to wait about 40 minutes for a table - they sat as at the bar to have drinks and were very friendly to us. We mentioned that we came to visit the city because of Madonna’s concert so they put on a playlist of hers immediately that was on for the whole time we were there. Wine is great, food is beautifully presented and super tasty and one more time, stuff is amazing! Very highly recommended!

It’s worth the wait in the queue. Lovely old town atmosphere. Friendly service from the owner, they know how to cheer the customers, mouthwatering food, one dish is more than enough for one person. Must try the beef meatballs, best in the world!

It was a great little spot. They had great beer and loved the small bistro feel to the restaurant. The servers were lovely and very nice to our kids. They gave us crayons and coloring sheets. The food was good. The meatballs were definitely the highlight. The others were good. Solid stop.

Took almost three hours to eat here. Which is insane. We live nearby and every time I pass this place there is a line. Well they are not in the hurry for sure. I have eaten here about three years ago and yesterday and still didn’t like it much. Meatballs were not my favorite. My husband is Swedish, we traveled around Sweden a lot and I ate Swedish meatballs in many places. These are hard and quite salty for my taste. They did offer complimentary desert at the end because they forgot about us which was nice, but again we already spent there a lot of time waiting for the table and for the food so we had to leave without the desert otherwise we would miss our new year concert at the opera house. Unpleasant experience.

Super quaint spot in the old part of town. Service and staff were lovely but more importantly, the food was incredible. It was my husband's first night in Sweden so I had to take him to a place with Swedish food. The fact it was minutes from our apartment was a bonus. We are here a week, we may go back!

It’s the best restaurant in Stockholm for Swedish food. Highly recommended for Shrimps and tuna dishes in the menu, even meatballs are awesome as well. Must go place for people who likes to eat good food.
