Jamestown was a great experience, especially for the kids. There's a lot to take in but the kids can touch a lot of it which makes it feel like a real experience. The kids loved putting on the armor and hats and really enjoyed the ship. The indoor exhibit was insightful and interesting as well. The people who were giving demonstrations were great at telling their stories and showing us what the tools were used for, how the bartering system worked and more. You need at least half a day to see and be able to appreciate the whole experience. The cafe had a lot of options to choose from. There are deli sandwiches, hot grilled food, salads, desserts and even snack items for quick bites. The gift shop near the entrance of the lobby when you first arrive is very nice. There was a lot of things to look at and the kids loved looking around and picking out their gifts. There are so many neat toys and books for the little ones.

Loved every second of my four hour visit here. Could have stayed longer. At first I wasn't sure about having to take a guided tour for the outdoor exhibits (in certain weeks in winter they don't allow you to meander around), but I am actually really happy I was offered a tour. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and personable, the interpreters were fantastic fun and I didn't want to leave. The ships and the Fort were definitely highlights. The indoor exhibits are also well done and everything is spotless. Great for all ages. It looks like they experience large crowds in peak season, if that's not your thing plan a visit on a winter weekday and you won't be disappointed.

Very nice museum both inside and out! We ended up skipping the videos, spent about 3 hours walking around looking at the exhibits. There are quite a bit of interactive displays inside; and the people dressed in role player costumes are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and present with sincere enthusiasm.

Awesome piece of history. Enjoyed every moment of being here - from the introduction video played, to the galleries, to the settlement, native village, and ships. The folks working here were very knowledgeable and friendly as well. Definitely recommend taking the time to check this place out. I added a few pics below to show what’s available outside, but I’ll leave the indoor galleries for the visitor to see !

Wow. I was super impressed. Definitely exceeded my expectations. Great place for children and adults alike. And teens that enjoy history. I love how the enhibits were interactive and tactile. Lots of great films. You can walk or drive down to the Glasshouse after and finish by riding the ferry to the fort and back. Definitely worth visiting!

Very well done museum that includes a large outdoor area with knowledgeable costumed interpreters. There are three different areas outdoors: the ships (one you could walk aboard), the native American village, and the fort. I appreciated that the museum included lots of information on the native Americans and African enslaved peoples in addition to the English settlers perspective. Very educational and enjoyable.

What an incredible time visiting such an incredible history. It was so interesting seeing the different ships and exploring them. This is my favorite style of museums... interactive. The guides were so knowledgeable and passionate about their knowledge. Their enthusiasm made the experience much more fun.

We really enjoyed our experience at the Jamestown settlement. Everyone there was very knowledgeable and helpful. I would plan for about 3 hours, especially if you like reading the information at museums. There's a lot of fascinating history to read about in the main building and I would recommend doing that before proceeding to the outdoor sites. The gift shop is nice and the cafe had very reasonable prices and the food was much better than expected!

Absolutely amazing 🤩 Great family trip. Adapted for wheel chairs/strollers/ wagons. It can be a whole day trip- there wish so much to see and to experience! I absolutely love all the people who work and volunteer there. They do not just playing a role but they are extremely knowledgeable about their. Amazing organization that allows people to live the experience of our ancestors. I wish more of American historical landmarks would be organized and well informed like that! I especially appreciate the brave soldier who showed us how the musket shoots and then answered all the questions, and believe me we had many! Kids as much as adults were all fascinated. Another great people we got to meet were a Dancing Bear ( his Indian name) and August ( not Indian name) . These young men knew a lot about their Indian culture and were happy to share. Unfortunately they couldn't share their food they were cooking in the fire outside but shared the recipe😜

Place is very informative and they also have live demonstration. We really appreciate history better after our visit. This place is a great place for learning history! You need at least 6 hours to explore and to finish everything without rushing. We will come back.

Worth the visit! We purchased tickets in advance. Very interesting and the kids love it. Most of the exhibits ate outside but the children really enjoyed seeing a life-size replica of "back in the day" like my son says...

It is interesting to see. Is it worth the money, not really. Kids love it. We brought our now 25 year old here when he was 8 and it was great. It seems ever here they have downgraded the entertainment aspect of it. The museum is interesting.

There is a tremendous amount to see and do here. We ran out of time so skipped most of the museum but could have easily spent another two hours in that part alone. The ships and Indian village were truly fascinating. Highly recommend.

Very cool museum with some great exhibits. The main building was very impressive. I highly recommend visiting. The outdoor living museum exhibits were impressive too. I can’t believe how small the ships were and can’t imagine being stuck on them for months crossing an entire ocean.

What a great place! Very interactive for kids, but also great for adults! I felt the love reenactors were fantastic at sharing information and responding to questions. I was asking pretty difficult and obscure questions and I only got one "I don't know" the whole time. Pretty impressive! They know a lot and are doing a great job there. The Powhatan village was my favorite. The ships were really cool, and the Jamestown Settlement was fun. I felt very immersed and a glimpse of what life may actually have been like back then. It was great for my nieces and nephew and the only time they complained was when they got hungry. Haha! I count that as a win. Anyway, it was a fun experience and I definitely recommend it!

This is a well thought out place that has something for everyone. Some good theaters with short films explaining plus wonderful exhibits. Outside they have a full recreation of the Jamestown fort and a Native American village with actors dressed appropriately and who can explain and patiently answer questions. It also has the 3 ships that you can walk with more question and answer opportunities. This place blew my mind with how awesome it was.

Great place to visit to learn the history of the first settlement. There is more to the story than what you find in textbooks and also that Disney movie. I recommend you spend a good time in the main gallery the exhibition there is worth the admission price.

Nice museum! There are two fun movies to watch, interesting things inside and outside. There's a restaurant near the entrance with nice food. We had a fun time! A few hours was more than enough

Great place to visit and learn about our country's history. Between the gallery indoors and the outdoor recreations (villages and ships) we easily spent 3.5 hours. They do offer a military discount and a multi location discount to visit all 3 main museums of history.

I had a fantastic experience at the Jamestown settlement. The museum is beautifully curated, offering a rich historical insight. The outdoor activities, paired with captivating performances, added a lively and engaging dimension to the visit. Highly recommend!

This was a fun adventure. There was a walk through education center with all sorts of exhibits. The Jamestown replica stronghold was nice and informative. The Native American village was informative. All the staff were friendly, informative and, all around amazing. The 3 boats on the water were very informative. Crazy to think how small they are and that they (are replicas) crossed the ocean. A good place to spend some time and see a lil early Americana.

This place was amazing! There is so much to see and do! One of the highlights going with 2 kids and my mother was the abundance of air conditioning options (and cafe) if it gets too hot! The actors were really friendly and informative. Everything was clean and wasn't hard to locate at all! We loved the interactive games outside also! While we were there it wasn't overly crowded. We got in at 9 and we're able to get front row parking and had time to see the entire place before it started filling up with people! Even after, it is a great experience!

We had such a great time. We enjoyed touring the inside of the boat. The native Indian live exhibit is a must see. It's respectfully done and so interesting. It's like stepping back into their village. The Jamestown settlement was a little more sparsely done that I would have thought with a lot less actors but the ones there were excellent and informative. The facilities were clean and well maintained. The museum portion was excellent.

It was an amazing experience. Looking back to history. Visualizing how British has started colonization in North America. Understanding and thinking about those old days how people survived. Overall it was a great experience.

At this place, they have meticulously preserved history of Virginia very well. All old artifacts are preserved nicely. Museum has excellent audio visuals that shows history of Virginia settlement. Outside museum, they have recreated the settlement and exact replica of old ships that British settlers used to sail from London. A must visit place for education and knowledge.

One word, AMAZING! Could easily spend a day here. I was here from 9:30 AM until 4:30 PM. Took it at an easy pace, reading/interacting thoroughly in most areas w/ a lunch break included. I have an especially vested interest in the history displayed here with my military and ancestral background being deeply rooted w/ this particular site. The staff were eager to help and knowledgeable from the ticket counter to the live role-players. The curators did an exquisite job mixing walking, interactive, theater and indoor/outdoor live exhibits together for an immersive experience. The thoughtful touches considering cultural sensitivity, scientific accuracy and child/adult friendly displays did not go unnoticed/appreciated. What a gem for the young/old, patriot/foreigner. Thank you. P.S., the actual settlement is about 5 min away and a separate establishment w/ it’s own exhibit. Wish I had made time to visit it!

First I’ll start with a more personal experience. I have a toddler who is very active he ran away out of my sight and I couldn’t find him I found an employee who immediately took his description and radioed other employees to help look they found him fast! These employees go above and beyond! The museum itself is very informative, interactive, and interesting. Something here for everyone! The ships are so cool to see and climb aboard

Amazing museum! The indoor and outdoor exhibits are informative and enjoyable. There are people dressed in native costume and period dress who talk about life in the Indian village, the ships, and the fort. Plan on spending a few hours at the settlement. There is also dining available for hungry visitors.

  • 5/5 Olivia K. 10 months ago on Google
There was an indoor museum portion with nice bathrooms and air conditioning as well as a gift shop and a cafe. The outdoor living museum was split into three main areas: Powhatan village, Fort James, and the ships. Everything was very interactive, information, and fun!

This was a great place to bring kids and learn important historical info about the first American settlement. They did a great job with all the recreations and all the actors that were dressed up were very informative and stayed in character. The indoor museum and gift shop were also very well laid out and interesting. Highly recommend!

Awesome place to visit. Museum is contemporary, and very interesting. The fort was really cool. I visited as a child and had always wanted to go back. It was well worth the trip. I wish I would have had more time to look around the museum though.
