Patwardhan palace is the icon of patwardhan dynasty who ruled jamkhandi state for one and half century. Jamkhandi state was founded by shrimant gopalrao patwardhan in 1811 and Jamhandi was the capital of the state. Previously the state was under british rule and in 1948 it merged with india. The name of the state was derived from jambukeshwar temple. In the patwardhan palace area there are some building in good condition, rameshwar and ganesh two ancient temples are good to visit with ramteerha lake.

The Royal Palace of Patwardhans is the main attraction of Jamkhandi town. Jamakhandi is a small town in Bagalkot district in the Indian state of Karnataka. It was the capital of the former princely state of Jamkhandi. The Brahmin Hari Bhat Patwardhan increased services to the Peshwa of the Marathas and was the ancestor of the princes of Budhgaon, Miraj, Kurundwad, Sangli, Jamkhandi and Tasgaon. The first of Raja Gopal Rao Ramchandra Rao Patwardhan Jamkhandi (1811-40). The Patwardhan rulers of Jamkhandi who were Chitpavan Brahmins, trace their origin to one Haribhat, from Kotawada, a village in Ratnagiri. He became the family priest of the chief of Ichalkaranji, another Chitpavan Brahmin. Three of his sons took up service with the Peshwa and distinguished themselves in the various conquests for their ruler. To honour their bravery and courage they were awarded Jagirs. So we find the Patwardhans ruling the Jagirs of Jamkhandi, Miraj, Sangli and Kurundwad. Jamkhandi was one of the Maratha Princely States of British India, administered as part of the Bombay Presidency and later the Deccan States Agency. It was founded in 1811 by Gopalrao Ramchandrarao Patwardhan (1799-1840). He was succeeded by Ramchandrarao Gopalrao Patwardhan (1833-1897), a very capable administrator. He moved his capital to Ramtirth, a hill near Jamkhandi, beside an old temple. He built a beautiful palace, a school and polo grounds. Having no male heir, he adopted Parshuramrao alias Bhausaheb Patwardhan (1897-1924), who ascended the Gaddi in 1903 and was the third Raja of Jamkhandi. Educated in Kolhapur under British tutors, Parshuram Patwardhan travelled far and wide with the Queen, in India and abroad, to study ways to improve the lot of his people. In 1820 Tasgaon was separated as a separate principality. On 1 November 1956 were repealed all principalities and came to Jamkhandi Karnataka. The descendants of the royal family Pranayrao Patwardhan, Rani Anjalidevi and Rajmata Lailaraje, and their family live in Pune. The beautiful hills around the town which were once adorned with Jamun and other trees now wear a denuded look

The Royal Palace of Patwardhans is the main attraction of Jamkhandi town. There is a legend says that Sage Jambhu meditated in the "khandi" meaning cave in the hills that gave the city the name. There is reference of the court poet of the ganga dynasty Ranna, referring to the city as "jambukhandi". There is also a temple of Lord jambhukeshwara in the city. Jamkhandi is surrounded by rocky hills.

One of the undiscovered palaces in North Karnataka. Not well maintained and closed for the public. You can view the palace from outside. Jamkhandi was founded by Gopalrao Ramchandrarao Patwardhan (1799โ€“1840) in 1811. He was succeeded by Ramchandrarao Gopalrao Patwardhan (1833โ€“1897), who was a very capable administrator, and moved his capital to Ramtirth, a hill near Jamkhandi, next to an old temple. He built a beautiful palace, a school and polo grounds The palace atop the hill has been converted into a school and is managed by the present MLA. The descendants of the royal family live in Pune.

The Ramtirth palace or the Patwardhan palace was the capital of the Patwardhan rulers of Jamkandi. Its structure is really massive and regal and it can be called a Palace in true sense. Most of the interior and decor seem to have been imported and one can just imagine it's lost grandeur. The palace also had a functioning lift back in the day. The palace was sold to a private entity, and was converted into a school. The school has now been moved out and the palace seems to be deteriorating. The palace is locked and entry is restricted. However one can visit the buildings surrounding the main palace.

This historical place is really good but not well maintained. Government should have taken care of this for next generation, very soon this place is going to vanish if it is not taken care.

Totally destroyed . I visited in my childhood. It was ok at that time. Some rooms belongs to queen and king were well maintained. I was wondered the fragrance of cupboard which was used to keep perfume bottles. A security guard was kept for mantainance at that time. But now everything is destroyed. What the archeological department is doing ? Is it not govt duty to protect the monuments and historical places of India ?
