Over-rated. The food look and smells delicious butthe taste is not that great. it is over rated. Place full of rush (people waiting for their turn). Not much attention is paid to people waiting for their turn. Service is quick and good. But the food is not that good as people state. I personally wont recommend this place.

The hype is more than that of the food, I tried their famous Chopri Thali and the taste is good but not up to my expectations or maybe I have some higher expectations as per the number of people who suggested that I should have dinner at this place. Overall it's good. They serve everything in desi ghee preparation.

one of most famous restaurant in the city. my reason for rating was the services I received. may be I visited them around 4 PM hence the things were not as they supposed to be. we ordered their dal tadka , steamed rice, ajwain laccha paratha, laccha paratha, chana tadka. though every thing was overpowered with taste of butter for parathas and chana tadka that worked, but their most hyped dish dal did not lived up to my expectation. rice served were cold and tasted stale portions of orders were small compared to price . you will feel prices at menu are cheap but when the actual order comes it may disappoint you. only two waiter were at services who were slow and slacking in serving 7-10 customers at that time. reaching at place as also a kind of project. though it will give you a good tour to old amritsar around Harminder sahib. may be they have better services and ambiance and taste at proper lunch, dinner time. but i did not tasted & experienced it so cannot comment on it

Unnecessary hype around this joint. food is OK but rivers of oil . That’s still manageable . Mismanagement and bad service . The guy took our order twice and orally . And both times served incorrect . Others also complained ! you have to share tables with others . So it’s like a paid Langar ! Much better places to go . Phirni was delicious . The only saviour ! 🙂

It's my second day in Amritsar and I love the city more & more with my visit. A newly made friend of mine who hails from Amritsar only, guided us to this 100+ year old dhaba located in the midst of Amritsar market where your car can't reach. If you crave for something, u will have to get it wit efforts and we have to walk around 1 - 1.5 kms to reach the place. It pretty looked like 100 year old dhaba , though interiors have been renovated and open kitchen is as big as the seating area. We grabbed a seat in the corner and was going through the menu, but then i had a sudden thought, y to put so much efforts when my friend is there and we went ahead with his recommendation. We ordered 4 lacche parathe, dal makhani and kadhai paneer (added my me 😛 which was jst okaish). The items were served in around 10 mins. Paratha was looking amazing and as soon he served it, he squeezed the paratha, i understand the reason of doing it is getting the makhan infused in it. We distributed the items in small bowls served wit it. Laccha Paratha was super delicious and when i had the bite of dal makhani, it was out of the world, putting a word to it won't be enough so I jst leave it as described - a taste which I cn never forget. Dal makhani was having bhar bhar ke ghee and I think the tadka that was put along with the preparation is itself making it amazing. We ordered another plate of dal. While writing this, i cn still feel the taste of dal makhani. If anyone ask me to visit here again for dal makhani, i will be more than just happy to travel. How can a meal be complete, without having a sweet. So, we ordered phirni and it turned out to the best decision. Served in a plate of clay and bit chilled. Amazing taste for closure. All this for a very reasonable or I would say at much low price.

One of the oldest and famous name of Punjabi restaurant is Kesar Da Dhaba. They specialise in Dal Fry with Lacha parothas. Dal cooked here is kept on tandoor for whole night and cooked on slow heat. This process adds special taste to the Dal. It is served with parathas (Indian bread) which is stuffed with lots of Desi Ghee. This is idle food for ghee lovers. If you don't relish having a lot of Ghee then this is not your place to enjoy food. They also serve paneer and black Chaney. Their preparation is average. If you like to enjoy sweet dish after your food, you can enjoy phirnee or hot gulab jamun. They taste really good. There is no parking space, so travel by rickshaw. Sitting space is big and comfortable.

Disappointing Experience at Kesar Da Dhaba in Amritsar I recently visited Kesar Da Dhaba in Amritsar, driven by the immense hype surrounding this restaurant on social media. Unfortunately, my experience fell far short of the expectations that had been built up. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a long waiting time of approximately half an hour. The restaurant is situated in the old streets of Amritsar, which added to the charm but also posed accessibility challenges. To my dismay, by the time I got a table, the rice had run out. This was a significant letdown, as it limited my dining options and contributed to an overall unsatisfactory meal. The fact that a staple like rice was unavailable raised concerns about the restaurant's management and preparedness. The taste of the dishes I tried was substandard, failing to live up to the praises I had seen online. It's disheartening when a place with such high social media hype doesn't deliver on the most crucial aspect—the taste of the food. The flavors were lackluster, and I couldn't help but wonder if the popularity was based more on marketing than the actual culinary experience. While the restaurant's location in the old streets of Amritsar adds a quaint charm, it may not be worth the inconvenience for those seeking a seamless dining experience. The hype surrounding Kesar Da Dhaba seemed disproportionate to the quality of the food and service I encountered. I would caution potential diners to manage their expectations and perhaps explore other culinary options in the vibrant food scene of Amritsar.

Pure Food with Great Taste. Kesar Da Dhaba is one of the most popular and reputed Dhaba in Amritsar. It is very popular for its Dal Fry, Palak Paneer and Lachha Paratha. I ordered Dal Fry, Palak Paneer, Malai Kofta and Lachha Parantha. The prices are very moderate and it was very crowded on a Sunday night. I waited for my turn for about 30 minutes but it was worth the wait. Lachha Paratha was very soft and very light on the stomach. I must say that their Lachha Parantha is the best Parantha in North India. Dal fry was very tasty and tadka of desi ghee on top enhances its taste. Palak Paneer was also great with normal spices. But Malai Kofta was not as good as other dishes. The overall food was light on stomach and suitable for all age groups as they add normal light spices in their preparation. Taste - 5/5 Dal Fry - 5/5 Palak Paneer - 4.5/5 Malai Kofta - 2/5 Lachcha Parantha - 5/5 Service - 3/5 Ambience - 4/5 Value for Money - 5/5 Must Try - Dal Fry, Palak Paneer, Chana Fry, Lachcha Parantha Avoid- Malai Kofta, Phirni

Pure and authentic 105-years old Dhaba situated in the heart of old Amritsar. It is clean and spacious for families. The staff is very cordial. Food quality is superb. Food quantity is more than enough. It is HIGHLY recommended if you are around the Golden Temple.

Just an average dhaba with average food . Nothing special as shown by various bloggers on YouTube . There are far better dhabas in Amritsar serving better food . We ordered their special dal , kadai paneer and malai kofta and trust me for the first time in my life I was not able to finish because my expectations were high and the food was way below the line . My advice is to better order a parantha with butter and curd that's way better than their signature dal.

True to its popularity, food was just awesome, the deliciousness of dishes served here is just out of this world. We had palak paneer and I am just short of words to explain how good, tasty, delicious this dish was.... If you are in Amritsar, you must visit Kesar Ka Dhaba, otherwise your trip will be half done only.....

This is over 100 year old dhaba and one of the most famous eateries of Amritsar. The place is super crowded most of the time. I visited just before the opening jours to avoid the crowd. I tried the Paratha Thali here. The thali was huge and is sufficient for two light to normal eaters. The parathas were nice and went well with daal makhani and chhole. The taste was good but I am not sure worth the hype. My most fav part was the phirni here. Cost - Appx 400 bucks for two people

We ordered their amritsari chur chur Naan, Masala dosa and thali for rs 150. Chur chur Naan was lip smacking tasty and so was the thali and dosa. The thali came with Shahi paneer, Chana masala, Daal makhni, fried rice and Raita with Laccha parantha. So much for only 150 rs and taste was awesome, everything was fresh and well cooked. Cleanliness and staff response was also great. Service was also good the food came to table within 10 mins of ordering. I would definitely highly recommend anyone who wants good tasting food with value for money.

The hotel is totally worth the visit if you are visiting amritsar or even punjab for the first time. The service is prompt, the staff is nice, the taste is even amazing. The hotel is just on a walkable distance from golden temple, Don't take auto to reach there, enjoy the bustling lanes of amritsar and reach there by walk. The toilet is also there. I ordered 1 aloo Paratha thaali and 2 separate aloo parathas, the thaali has 2 aloo Parathas in it so the thaali and 2 aloo Parathas were enough for 4 people. The lassi here is amazing and I'm sure other things on the menu will also satisfy your taste buds❤️

Kesar Da Dhaba an amazing place in old Amritsar market and quite popular too. The food quality is not as good as I expected but the place has got amazing reputation and people stand on lines in order to eat here. I would do recommend trying Dal makhni and Lachha Parantha.

A very popular and century old setup .Provides authentic Punjabi food . Thanks to the internet has gained lot of publicity . Located in the interior lanes . Lots of rush especially during meal times . I personally found this place a bit overrated. The dishes had lot of oil .For three or less persons are made to sit in a place opposite to the restaurant which is not well maintained and stuffy . So advice is combine with another family / members so that can sit in the actual place . Okay, to visit to tick it off your bucket list, but if visiting for food only, then could be disappointed. Rates are economical. It's worth a visit to go through the experience.

Most famous restaurant in the city. Though it has ample sitting area yet it was very crowded. There was a queue of at least 30 people waiting outside at 10pm on a weekday. Take away counter is a separate shop. They cook all the food in brass vessels. Their Dal Makhani is what made them famous. It is said that they keep cooking it continuously for 12-14 hours and mix several spices. It is situated in the old Amritsar and you will have to navigate through the narrow streets. Best to take a rickshaw.

We were 10 persons and we orders 5 Thali and 5 parathas extra. One thali is enough for two people. If you visit kesar da dhaba don’t forget to try lassi and phirni in sweet . Make sure you don’t eat something else before going kesar da dhaba. And it’s take time to enter in restaurants because there’s people dine in so you have to wait a bit out side of restaurant.

In my opinion this place is hyped . Food is below average. I ordered Aloo & Pyaaz ka paratha with palak paneer. All you can taste is butter 🤣 Eventually, I ended up having a bad stomach. I will suggest to look for a better place to eat. Pricing was decent!

This place deserves a full 5 star and lives up to all the hype. Tucked near the by-lanes of the Golden Temple, this Amritsar dhaba has its own secret century-old recipe of its maa ki daal and lachcha parantha and it was delicious. Most dishes on the menu and the parathas are a must try. It has huge waiting so better be ready to wait or if you are not a family then you can eat on a shared table. Staff is very courteous and the service is quick. Cleanliness quotient could have been better. Overall a must try for veggies when in Amritsar. The food is very heavy so better to starve a couple of hours before going :)

Kesar Da Dhaba is a vegetarian Punjabi restaurant in Amritsar, India. It was started in 1916 by Lala Kesar Mal and his wife, Parvati, in Sheikhupura, Pakistan. The couple sold dal and roti, including Dal Makhani, or "Mah ki Dal". After the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947, they moved the dhaba to Amritsar. The dhaba's recipes and cooking methods have remained the same for 75 years. The menu includes dal fry, chana fry, palak paneer, shahi paneer, malai kofta, and various types of rotis and paranthas. They also have four different types of thalis and many desserts. The dhaba is located between the Golden Temple and Jallianwala Bagh. It has two air-conditioned halls that can host 150 guests

A very old and famous place among tourists and people of amritsar. We went there to try their daal and it was different in taste. You will not find it at any other place. I'll not recommend you order any food item in half as it is very least in quantity in case you want to order it for taste purposes.

Undoubtedly best place to eat delicious, authentic punjabi food at reasonable price. Kesar da Dhaba is a well-known restaurant located in Amritsar, Punjab, India. It is renowned for its authentic Punjabi cuisine and has been serving delicious food since 1916. The restaurant is particularly famous for its signature dish, "Dal Makhani," a rich and creamy lentil curry cooked with butter and cream. Kesar da Dhaba has a rustic ambiance, reminiscent of traditional roadside dhabas (eateries) in India. The restaurant has retained its old-world charm and has become an iconic landmark in Amritsar. Apart from Dal Makhani, some other popular dishes at Kesar da Dhaba include Amritsari Kulcha, Chole Bhature, Sarson Ka Saag, Makki Ki Roti, and Lassi (a refreshing yogurt-based drink). The food is prepared using traditional cooking techniques and authentic Punjabi spices, ensuring an incredible culinary experience. Due to its popularity, Kesar da Dhaba can get quite crowded, especially during peak hours and tourist seasons. It is advisable to arrive early or make reservations to secure a table. The restaurant continues to attract both locals and tourists who want to savor the flavors of traditional punjabi cuisine.

The place is decent, for travellers who are looking for an authentic meal you can try once. Though they have very limited items on the menu , but it's their trademark ™️ food items. We tried malai kofta, palak paneer and their famous daal. Must try these for first timers and end with phirni. Be careful it's a small Street we cannot enter with vehicle coz they don't have parking. Try thali if you are going in a group.

I visited this place twice. My first dining experience in 2019 was good, with both the food and service being outstanding. Recently, I returned with my family, eagerly convinced them to wait in the long queue for a table. Despite the restaurant being packed as usual, the service remained good. However, I was greatly disappointed by the food this time. The 'dal makhani' was the worst I've ever tasted, although the palak paneer was passable. This visit didn't live up to my previous one. Unfortunately, the next day, all four of us in the family suffered from upset stomach, which forced us to cancel our plans for Amritsar on August 15th.

I went there on my Amritsar trip after hearing some great reviews from people but was a bit disappointed. Service was fast however it wasn't able to match my taste buds as their most hyped dish - dal did not live up to my expectations. I tried the Parantha Thali here. The thali was huge and is sufficient for two light to normal eaters. The parathas were nice and went well with daal makhani and chhole. The taste was good but I am not sure if it is worth the hype. My most favorite part was the phirni here.

Walking to the place is challenging since its narrow and there are lot of honking tuktuks. It's vegetarian only restaurant. Dal Makhani and the aloo paratha was good. It's not a place you will go back again for the meal . It's just for the experience of dining in one of the iconic restaurants in Amritsar. For me it's over hyped.

Today I got a chance to visit the famous Kesar da Dhaba. Crowd management was excellent. There was a queue of 15-20 people but i got a seat in 15 minutes. Kaali dal was bit overrated. We usually get dal better than this even at an ordinary restaurant. Should have been bit spicy. Rotis and Parathas were really good. I ordered Sarson ka saag and makkai di roti. Both were good. I became an instant fan of roti, thin and crispy. Great value of money since the price of food is less compared to restaurants in and around Golden Temple.

Visited in last week of Feb 2021. Place is small and good 20 minutes waiting. Regular menu with hyped prices. No special taste in food. Visit only if want to check-in on FB for a famous place. Quantity has clearly taken over the quality. Not worth it.

The food used to taste awesome uptill a couple of years back but now it's a different story. Quality is good but taste is nowhere close to what I had experienced before. Didn't like the food, extremely overhyped. Lachha paratha was so crunchy it almost had given cuts inside mouth. Dal had that chhok and reddish color which wasn't pleasing either. Ordered two types of paneer and both tasted same, big let down against the expectation we went in there. Gulab jamun and firni was good though, liked it.

Over hyped. Wait for your turn to get inside. Fast servuce. No kulcha is served here. Taste is great but clarified butter is used in ample quantity.

Your Amritsar tour is incomplete without this. Simply loved it. Good hospitality and service. Heavy loaded thalis. Loved the aloo pyaaz parantha thali. And the double tadka chonk of dal fry, and the butter dripping from the paranthas 😍. Overall a great experience. Perfect for dinner.

Worst place ever. Please don’t visit this when you are in Amritsar. Worst service, food, ambience and not worth the money! Waiters are rude and asking for tips. Unprofessional. Hopeless.

Their delicious thali was awesome. I woild say they serve best Paratha thaali in town. Do not forget to try palak paneer, gulab jamun and their phirni. It was amazingly good. Always try to visit by 12-2pm otherwise you will have to wait fo so so so long. Best part of this dhaba was service at it's best.

By far the best dal makhani I have ever eaten! The parathas are great and the portions are humungous. Don't go on a weekend if you can help it, we waited.1.2 hours to get a seat.

Old is gold. The taste of this place never gonna be changed. It's pocket friendly too. I have just one problem that the quantity of the dishes are less according to the price except this the taste is very delicious.

  • 4/5 Vinayakram T. 2 years ago on Google
Went there with a lot of hype and expectations. But felt the place was a little overrated. Tasty food indeed, but not worth all the hype. Paranthas are super big and thick here, one parantha will definitely fill in your stomach

One of the best place to get Amritsar’s special Food. The location is in middle of the market so need to use google maps. There are also e rickshaws available. The food is pretty good. The tastes is fabulous and the quantity is too good. There are varieties of dishes there and also you can try the Thalis. Must try dish is Palak Panner. The staff is good little late because of many customers. Must visit place in Amritsar.

Like other tourists this was also in my bucket list of Amritsar visit. Very crowded place but the service is very fast. They have a la carte as well as thali. Many people order thali which comprises of their signature dal , Paratha and paneer ki sabji. You must have heard about their dal which has a big layer of ghee and how the recipe is still the same from the last 100years or so. Now my honest opinion after trying their food : Aaloo Paratha was extremely tasty and i enjoyed that , 1 is sufficient and made me full. Now coming to daal i thought it was a bit too much when it comes to ghee coming from someone who enjoys ghee . The taste was bit boring after a few spoons. It was overwhelming..no one in our family could finish that. Same goes for other dishes as well ..we did one good thing that we had gone for a la carte rather than thali so we were full and did manage to finish our food. I noticed many people had order individual thalis and couldn't finish that at all. So please order 1 thali for 2 people and then see if you need anything else. Final verdict - I have had better daal in Amritsar than Kesar da dhaba ..But as an 100+years old establishment i can see the appeal to visit this legendary place as a tourist place but don't get your hopes high that you will get a life changing food , there are much much better dhabas and restaurants in Amritsar.

Extremely popular and hyped up eating joint. Restaurant has two spaces opposite to each other. Invariably has long waiting time and it's really up to you to get a table and/or share it with other guests. Food looks great but is average at best. Paratha Was good but was quite disappointed that the dal and curry were not tasty at all.

The place is more than 100 years old and a very old dhaba in Amritsar . We had gone on a weekday around 3 pm and still found the place very crowded . We ordered a aloo parathe thali and to our surprise the allo paratha , raitha were over . The waiter bought aloo and Gobi paratha with daal . If we knew few of things were over we would have ordered something else also . The food was really nice . Paratha didn't have the filling inside maybe due to on the verge of stocking out . The daal makhni was really nice with desi ghee. A 100% recommendation for those who like their meals prepared in ghee . The ghee in the daal and paratha was really very much. Chole were the best part of the meal . Also the lassi was also over and so were the sweets . So inshort a bad day to visit this iconic place.

Food was good without being great! Better places in Amritsar. Nothing wrong - but you are paying for the name and the 1919 historical landmark. Paratha selection was amazing (they don't do Amritsari kulcha only Lacha Paratha, where they do the infamous hand crush!). Curries were so-so (Shahi paneer was not a lot of creamy cashew curry, mostly oil). Stick to parathas. Also- pain to get to (can't take a cab there; by foot or auto only). RECOMMEND.

I saw such a rush for the first time in life, people used to take tokens and wait outside in street. We have to wait 75 minutes before entry. The taste of food is unique at affordable prices. Service is average. I advise to take away and enjoy at your comfort.
