This one is also an absolutely beautiful buddhist temple, stunning art work. It's so relaxing to look at!! Imagine if all of the ruined parts are still the standing. It would have wonderful complex. Totally worth it to visit!! And you can also rent a scooter to drive around the park for the sightseeing, temples, mini zoo, activities and restaurants are all inside this complex.

Part of the prambanan temple complex about 1km away from the main temple within walking distance. Grab car drivers if you ask may wait for you to bring you back to jogjakarta.

This place is separate from Prambanan Temple. There is no additional entrance fee. To get to this location, you have to walk about 10 to 15 minutes. You can also rent a scooter for IDR 35,000 for 30 minutes I think this is enough to get around Sewu Temple. Unlike the other temples, at Sewu Temple you can go inside to the top of the temple. You can see in detail how the carvings of this temple. Parking for bicycles is also provided and very secure. There will be information about how this temple was built. Unfortunately, to maintain the authenticity of the buildings and structures, several temples are no longer standing and many stones are on the ground. But for me, this is an advantage because I can clearly see how people in the past built extraordinary buildings without cement or adhesives.

Absolutely fascinating. We preferred this to Prambanan as it was much less busy and the entry fee was included in the ticket for Prambanan. The entrance at the South side says closed but you just need to go round to the East side (to the right) to enter. You can walk inside the temples and get some brilliant photos. So amazing to think that years ago there were 249 temples!

Sewu temple is in Candi Prambanan area. The temple is not big like Candi Prambanan ( different concept ), you can visit when you visit Candi Prambanan, can use buggy car ( pay IDR 20.000 ) or rent the bike ( IDR 20.000 ) or just walk ( about 15 minute from Candi Prambanan )

This place is hidden gems. But you have to walk around 1-2 km to get there. Me and my wife rented a bicycle for 30 minutes: it costed 20K IDR. It’s quite place and you can take many photos as you want.

This place was marvelous. Just don't skip it if you make a visit to Prambanan. It located in the area of Prambanan Temple, about 500m from the entrance gate. Even though located in the same area with Prambanan which know as Hindu's temple, Candi Sewu is Buddhist's temple. Compared with Prambanan, this temple is very quite. You'll only find couples of visitor, since it took you some minutes by walk to reach this place. But if you are to lazy to walk you can rent a bike for 10K rupiahs (single bike) or 20K rupiah (for tandem bike). Or just rent a golfcar to make a private tour on the area of Prambanan, from one temple to another.

Early in the morning you can still feel the presence of the religious power of this holy place of the past. But this feeling disappear as soon as the jumping selfie generation occupies the area.

Decent place to visit for sight seeing. A bit too expensive to enter. It's in the same site as Prambanan but they will you charge you separately on each temple.

Great temple! The distance between Prambanan Temple and Sewu Temple around 800 meters. Candi Sewu is the second largest Buddhist temple complex in Indonesia; Borobudur is the largest.

One of the Buddhist temples located in the Prambanan temple complex. Have to walk for around 10 minutes from Prambanan temple to reach this place. The temple is still under reconstruction, but the main temple is already well built.

Candi Sewu is the second largest Buddhist temple in central Java after Borobudur and dates from 8th to 9th centuries AD. The temple is dedicated to the Buddha Vairocana, whose statue would have been contained in the main chamber, however it is no longer there. The complex is based on a Mandala design, a trait of Vajrayana school complexes. Vajrayana learning came to Java in the 8th centruy through contacts with the Pala empire. The main temple structure has been well restored and can be explored inside. There are dozens of smaller structures surrounding it, some restored but many simply piles of stones. Although just adjacent to the main Prambanan temples, few visitors to that site make it to Candi Sewu, making it a more peaceful place to explore.

Located in Prambanan temple complex, sewu temple offer the difference ambience than Prambanan. Sewu means thousand in Javanese. It's a buddhist temple that located in the Hindu's temple complex. You can walk to the location or rent for bicycle. I recommend to rent bicycle bcz the ambience is so good and you can also visit another temples such as bubrah temple and lumbung temple as well.

You can spent all day in TWC because its very beautiful place to visit and a lot of beautiful photo spot. Best time to visit is in the morning to avoid crowd and also the weather is not too hot

Candi Sewu is no stranger to the world of historic sites, being a proud member of UNESCO's heritage list! It's an absolute must-visit when you're in Jogja. Steeped in history and grandeur, this site leaves an indelible mark on every traveler's heart. Don't miss out!

My advice: go here and skip Borobodur. It's beautiful and you might just have it all to yourself for a bit. If you're a student don't buy tickets for Prambanan (and this) online, there's a pretty big discount if you can show your student pass.

Beautiful mini version of Prambanan temple but it’s different religion as Sewu temple is Buddhist and Prambanan temple Hinduism. The special of temples in Indonesia that they keep originality in the volcanic stone … no painting colours etc. Absolutely worth to visit when you go to Yogyakarta-Indonesia ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Sewu Temple is the second largest Buddhist temple complex after Borobudur. Interesting fact, Sewu Temple is in the same area where Prambanan Temple (Hindu temple) located. This temple also representing the Roro Jonggrang urband legend story.

Located in the Prambanan area, about 1 km length with 15 minutes walk, but you can go by shuttle with around 10k/20k with short stop to take some pictures. It is worth by walking so you can see another temple in Prambanan area. This Buddhist temple is less crowded than Prambanan.

It was a long walk and we were regretting not renting a ride here, but all our efforts felt justified when we reached here. We were literally blown away by mesmerizing beauty of this gem. It is second biggest buddhist temple in central Java region. There are 8 main temples in 8 directions cslled Candi Penjuru and 240 surrounding temples called Candi Perwara. The smaller ones are slmost entirely ruined, but the bigger ones are more or less intact. Watching the sun setting behind these temple domes was one of the most beautiful sight which we will cherish forever.

  • 5/5 slamet j. 1 year ago on Google
It is beautiful temple. Not so many people come here to see. Mostly people just visit Prambanan. If you like peace and enjoyable place. This is the right place. If the weather is good sunset from here with the background of the temple is perfect day then.
