Winter
and
sweet
craving
of
Bengal's
go
hand
in
hand.
Especially,
the
famous
date
jaggery
(নলেন
গুড়)
is
a
must-have
item
in
almost
every
bengali
household.
I
remember
the
time
when
the
famous
"gur"
(গুড়)
was
brought
to
our
doorstep
by
the
gurwala's
of
South
24
Parganas
and
those
"পাটালি"
(Jaggery
dices)
were
used
for
any
auspicious
occasions
like
Puja's
Or
birthday's
special
sweet
making...
Times
are
changed
and
finding
authentic,
good
quality
Jaggery
is
a
tedious
and
difficult
job
as
the
good
stuffs
are
rare
and
adulterated
products
are
sold
in
open
market
rampantly.
Therefore
in
my
quest
for
the
original
"nalen
gur"
And
authentic
"Joynagarer
Moya"
(
জয়নগরের
মোয়া),
I
looked
at
almost
every
big
sweet
shop
on
the
Kulpi
Road,
from
Baharu
to
Jaynagar,
to
get
the
ultimate
epitome
of
the
legendary
Bengali
sweetmeat
dishes.
And
my
search
ended
here,
at
Ramkrishna
Mishtanna
Bhandar.
They
have
excellent
quality
Jaggery,
and
excellent
Maya's
as
well.
Even
the
fabled
"জলভরা
তালশাঁস
সন্দেশ"
Is
of
another
level
(the
price
is
quite
steep
though,
₹50/-
per
Sandesh).
They
mainly
serve
two
qualities
of
Moya,
"Special"
(₹500/-
per
Kg,
₹250/-
for
one
box
i.e.
10
moyas)
and
"Super"
(₹600/-
per
Kg,
₹300/-
for
1
box).
The
"Super"
Variety
is
super
duper
hit,
as
the
taste
of
nalen
gur
with
nuts,
khoi
mixes
with
your
tastebuds,
you
experience
a
foodgasm!
The
gur
that
I
got
for
my
home,
was
also
of
excellent
quality
as
we
tried
using
them
and
other
gur
as
well,
separately
and
the
taste
in
our
pithey
(পিঠে)
and
Payesh(পায়েস)
we're
enhanced
10
fold
after
using
the
special
Jaynagarer
gur
from
Ramkrishna.
Both
the
Jaggery
dices
(
পাটালি)
and
liquid
Jaggery(ঝোলা
গুড়)
costs
₹300/-
per
Kg
and
according
to
my
opinion,
it's
a
worthy
investment
if
you're
a
meticulous
cook
and
synical
food
lover.
This
sweetshop
gives
you
"G.I.
marked",
authentic
products
only
so
you
can
rest
assured
about
the
quality.
Finally,
I
must
mention
that
their
location
is
very
convenient
but
perhaps
they're
the
most
crowded
sweetshop
on
whole
Jaynagar
as
well
(never
reached
the
counter
at
least
before
15mins
after
getting
there),
so
might
face
a
problem
in
finding
a
suitable
parking
space.
Therefore
I'd
suggest
to
bring
some
acquaintances,
shop
while
they
wait
and
stuff
a
delicious
moya
on
their
mouth,
if
they
complain
about
being
late!
