The temple is quiet and calming. This temple is about Devi Ahalya who according to the Hindu Mythalogy was turned into the stone due to the curse of her husband and was revived again to her normal self by the mere touch of Lord Shree Ram. The temple is beautifully made with fine patterns and designs but it has not been taken good care of as the paints are coming off from here and there, plaster is coming out, small plants are growing out of its walls, it has started to ruin. Proper care must have to be taken of this temple otherwise very soon we will lose the heritage site of Mithilanchal and one beautiful temple will turn into ruins. The authority should take proper care to revive the temple and promote Bihar Tourism.

Ahalya Sthan is the place where once the ashram of Maharishi Gautama stood. The temple, in its present structural form was built between 1662 and 1682 during the rule of Maharaja Chhatra Singh and Maharaja Rudra Singh. This is also the first Ram Janaki temple in India. The temple is beautifully made with fine patterns and designs of art and ancient Indian architecture. Inside the shrine, there is a flat stone said to contain the foot prints of Sita, wife of Ram, as the main object of worship.

    (Translated by Google) Darbhanga district is Ahiyari village under Sadar subdivision, which is known as Ahilya place. Kamatoul railway station is descending here. This place is located 40 km east of Sitamarhi, the birthplace of Sita. It is said that Lord Rama saved Ahilya at this place by the order of sage Vishwamitra. There is no doubt that Ahilya-nagari or Gautam Ashram was in Mithila. In Bhojpur, Rama had done Tadka. There, Sanuja Rama protected the yajna of sage Vishwamitra by suppressing the evil demons with his power. Rama rescued Ahilya before entering Mithila state, and then from there he went to Prague North direction (Ishan Kon) and reached Videha Nagri Janakpur with sage Vishwamitra. According to the legend mentioned in the Ramayana, Rama and Lakshmana went to see the forest groves of Mithilapuri, along with the sage Vishwamitra, then they saw a deserted place in a park. Ram said, "Lord! In looking at this place it looks like an ashram, but what is the reason that no sage or muni is seen here?" Vishwamitra told that this place was once the ashram of Maharishi Gautama. He used to do penance by staying here with his wife. One day when Gautam Rishi went outside the ashram, in his absence, Indra came in disguise of Gautam Rishi and pleaded with Ahalya. Ahalya recognized Indra and did not approve. When Indra was returning to his world, coming back to his ashram, the sight of Gautam Rishi who was disguising himself as Indra He cursed Indra with anger. After this, he cursed his wife that you remained in ashes here after suffering only by drinking air for thousands of years. When Rama enters this forest, only then will you be saved by his grace. Only then you will be able to come to me after wearing your former body. Saying this, Gautam Rishi left this ashram and went to Himayal and started doing penance. That is why Vishwamitra Ji said, "O Ram! Now you go inside the ashram and save Ahalya." After listening to Vishwamitra Ji, both of them entered inside the ashram. There Ahilya was not visible anywhere in penance, only her fast was spreading in the whole environment. When Ahalya's vision fell upon Rama, she received her holy vision and once again started to appear as a beautiful woman. Rama and Lakshmana reverently touched her feet in front of Ahilya in female form. He received due respect from him and returned to Mithila Puri with Muniraj. Ahalya or Ahalya is a female character mentioned in the legend of Sanatana Dharma, who was the wife of Gautama Rishi. His story is found sporadically in the Brahmins and Puranas and his story is described in detail in the Ramayana and later Ramakathas. According to the stories, it was the wife of Rishi Gautama and the daughter of Brahmaji. Brahma made Ahalya the most beautiful woman. All the gods wanted to marry him. Brahma laid a condition that the first person who visits Trilok will remember Ahalya. Indra first visited Trilok with all her miraculous power. But then Narada told Brahmaji that sage Gautama had done before Indra. Naradji told Brahma that in his daily worship order, sage Gautama gave birth to a calf while orbiting the cow mother. According to Vedana, circumambulation of cow at this stage is similar to Trilok circumambulation. In this way Mata Ahalya was married to Rishi Gautama, son of Atri Rishi. Sage Gautama cursed Mata Ahilya and made a stone because of Indra's mistake. Later, she became a woman again through the footsteps of Lord Shri Ram. In the Hindu tradition, they are counted as one of the holiest five girls of the world, the Panchakanya and are considered to be remembered in the morning. According to the belief, the name of these Panchakanya mornings in the morning destroys all sins.

This place is named after rishi Gautam's wife and sati Ahilya who after being cursed by rishi Gautam turned in stone and after being touched by lord Ram's feet return back to human form. A famous story of the Ramayana. This place is situated near Kamtaul, Darbhanga and distance is around 35 km. Atmosphere depends upon climate and season we visit. Temples are maintained and painted well but requires some local government help. Here is lake formed by seven well dugged belowthe lake water and never dried. If you love your heritage and past culture, If you believe in His presence then this place is definitely for you. You are welcome and tell your own opnion.

Ahalya Sthan is a place of historical and mythological significance in Hinduism. According to Hindu mythology, Ahalya was the wife of Gautama Maharishi, a sage who lived in ancient India. She was cursed by her husband and turned into a stone due to her infidelity. Later, Lord Rama, an incarnation of the Hindu God Vishnu, came to the site and touched the stone, restoring Ahalya's human form. This place is revered as a sacred spot by Hindus, and there are several Ahalya Sthan temples and shrines located throughout India.

This is historical place at the heart of Mithilanchal Bihar. Quite and calm place and only filled with devotion. Architecture of old temple is very good but it's not fully preserved or maintained. New temple is also partially completed but under construction. These places need government attention to renovate. These will provide good scope of tourism in the area.

The place has an important spot in the Ramayana, where Lord Ram had transformed the stone(due to curse) into the lady Ahalya's original form. Despite of such importance, the temple and its surrounding is not maintained properly. There are shops. The temple requires renovation.

Ahilya Asthan stands in a village called Ahiya Gram which along with the temple is said to date back to the time of Ramayana. It is dedicated to Ahilya, wife of Gautam Rishi. According to mythology, he had cursed her to turn into a stone. But when Lord Rama’s feet touched the stone on his way to Mithila, she regained her human form. This famous temple is located at a distance of 3 km from the Railway Station of Kamtaul in the Jale block. Festival of Ramnavmi is celebrated here with high enthusiasm every year in late March-early April. Besides this temple, the village hosts many other temples and mosques.

A famous temple dedicated to Lord Rama and Sita makes this place popular among followers. This holy site is situated at Ahiari village under the Jale block, 20 km from Darbhanga town. Ahilya Sthaan is revered with mythological significance that Ahilya was great saint Gautam’s wife. She was cursed to become a stone statue, but was brought back to life after Lord Rama, who happened to pass through the village, touched the statue.

As per Ramayana this is the place where Mata Ahilya returned to their original form from stone. The ancient temple of Lord Rama is also available here. But the condition of this temple is not good. Govt. should take care of these kind of ancient temples and structires which relates us to our origin.

It's sad to see that a place with such historical importance is left unconsidered, except for the local villages not much people are aware of the fact that this is where Lord Rama freed Ahalya Bai from her curse. It's so quiet there, away from city's chaos as the place is almost 30km from Darbhanga district. For people like me, it's a must visit place if you're ever visiting Darbhanga. And after visiting Ahalya Sthan you can also head to "Gautam Kuti" which is not more than 5km from there.

Being a very important and sacred place for Hindus in context of Ramayana the place has not been managed. The Government has not shown the importance of maintaining it. I liked the place because of simplicity and peace. It would have been managed well if it's the matter with other states in India. But Bihar Government does not give a damn about any Hindu Pilgrim places in the state.
