Unique bakery on Oak Street, with actually delicious vegan foods and baked goods, which if experience tells us anything, is quite an impressive feat. The interior space is a little tiny in the front, but there is a little door which leads to either a lovely quaint side patio, or another door leads to a spacious comfortable drawing room with tables and couches and is frankly charming. Of course there is seating out front. Friendly staff, though sometimes the music is annoying. Try the all veggie sandwich: it's delicious!

Phenomenal neighborhood bakery. Had a great lemon and strawberry filled donut and a refreshing glass of ice tea on this super hot day while waiting for my scooter to be serviced. Highly recommend this spot.

My favorite vegan place on my trip so far! Sandwiches are so delicious and packed with flavor. Their baked goods are phenomenal! I want to buy a loaf before I head back home it is so good! The vibe eating outside was great. There is even outside seating in the back that has cats 🐈 running around. 😍 I thought that was absolutely amazing! Everything on the menu looks so good. I wish I had more time to try more things!

Yummy vegan treats! Breakfast sandwiches, lunch, and pastries. Not a healthy spot necessarily but vegan comfort food done well! Cozy patio at Oak location for coffee sipping and reading.

This is honestly a bit of a hidden gem. The bread is absolutely fantastic, which is what I was looking for in the first place, but it's hard to find vegetarian and vegan food sometimes and theirs is excellent. It was nice to go somewhere for breakfast my friend, who is allergic to eggs, has any real options. I'm someone who will cheerfully eat anything, but my vegetable sandwich was legitimately delicious, and a fresh diversion from the heavier food that I have been having in the city. Their tofu scramble with mushrooms was also excellent , and we both left pleasantly full, London Fog lattes in hand. The scones are a bit dense, but quite tasty- especially if you take them home, toast them, put butter on them. But don't tell them I said to.

A quaint shop, good bread, but not sure it is the best bakery in Louisiana.

Even if you are not vegan you owe it to yourself to check these folks out. Open at 0730 on Sundays, rarely early around these parts and everything is great. The coffee, the food, the atmosphere. This place is perfection.

Y'all, I straight up love this place. You don't need to be a vegan to enjoy your time at Breads on Oak. I'm a pescatarian, and their vegan muffuletta is 🔥. Also, it's fall now and their treats just make me want to dance. Prices are reasonable, and the workers there are kind and willing to answer any questions. I love chatting with them when I can. If you're looking for savory, I recommend the vegan muffuletta (as mentioned), or their burger or patty melt. For sweet, I love their double chocolate cookies and their eclairs! You can't really go wrong with whatever you get though.

I have tried this bakery again and again and I am just not convinced of it's awesomeness. Everytime I buy bread or any of the pastries, they are extra dry and tasteless. I have to always bring home to heat up and add butter. Even then, I cannot finish the breads. I get it...it's all vegan but can't it be softer or tastier? Plus, there's always little fruit flies flying around so I hesitate to buy any of the sweet stuff. Four stars because I am glad they cater to a certain clientele that probably enjoys this kind of food. Staff is nice and ambiance is relaxing and homey.

Breads on Oak has been a major silver lining for us during our stay in NOLA. We got stuck here during the epic winter storms Uri and Viola. We came here two days in a row (wish we knew about them sooner though). The pumpkin cheddar sandwich was incredible. Baked goods were absolutely scrumptious. I had the best tomato basil soup of my life. The vibes were so chill and homey feeling. Loved being here and eating the wonderful food. Will recommend this place endlessly and come back next time we are in this neck of the woods.

This place is heaven! Sweet or savory you can't go wrong. The pumpkin "cheddar" buscuit was delicious. Thumb print cookies, chocolate croissants, and more! Go wild! You won't be disappointed.

One of, if not the, best chocolate chip & walnut cookie I’ve ever had. And by ever, I don’t just mean vegan. I mean ever. The buzz of this place can be felt right when you walk in. There’s a real youthful sense of passion & energy. Fresh made everything, an arsenal of pastries, sweets and breads, great coffee, blah blah blah. It’s really damn good. It’s vegan. It’s New Orleans. 😎

Breads on Oak is such a gem of a bakery, a must-visit in NOLA (even if you aren’t vegan)! Yes, everything is totally vegan and totally delicious. The servers are caring, patient and kind - ready to help you with any questions. Had to visit twice during my short trip to the city it was that good. We tried the pumpkin cheddar biscuit, brioche bun, cookies and king cakes filled with Bavarian cream, almond cream and tiramisu, and oat milk latte. The breads are also wonderful and beautifully baked. The bread is very crusty so I recommend getting it sliced unless you have a very good bread knife at home. Everything was outstanding. Our favorite king cake was definitely the Bavarian cream. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Just AMAZING. The staff was very sweet, friendly and helpful. The cheesy grits (surprisingly) satisfied my dad, and both the chocolate samoa cake and the strawberry cake were so moist and flavorful it took pure will-power not to finish both slices at the table. Additionally, this place is a lot more spacious than what the eye may perceive initially, the outdoor seating was a comfortable and homey spot. If you're wondering if your non-vegan people will actually enjoy eating here I can assure you they'll walk out impressed and satiated. Will be visiting again!

Stellar little bakery with tons of great vegan breakfast options. Cozy indoor and outdoor seating in the back. The "donut" doesn't really look like a donut (where's the hole?), but they're some of the best donuts I've ever had. The king cake is unlike any king cake I've ever had but it's absurdly good. I went multiple times on my short trip in town and despite trying a bunch of different things on the menu I was never disappointed. If I'm ever back in the area I'll be sure to stop in here. (I also visited the downtown location, but preferred this location)

I think about this place like 5 times a week. We went on a NOLA vacation from Florida and this was honestly the highlight. Being conveniently close to our AirBnb, we actually went every morning for 4 days, the duration of our trip. Many cafe au lait and hot chocolates were consumed. The baguette was top notch and we consumed at least 7 pastries. I highly recommend. The warm atmosphere and outdoor area with the cat is very cool too. This place is a gem for vegans and non-vegans alike

Maybe the best bakery in New Orleans, definitely the best vegan bakery. This place makes me want to order food to be shipped to me all the way in Florida. Would definitely recommend stopping by and grabbing some food.

I was originally introduced to this place by a friend who shared a donut with me from there. I must say the donut was good and so I decided to try it in person. The space has a very New Orleans feel and the location on Oak is great and the seating is perfect. I was not impressed at all with the menu beyond the donuts. I realize it’s a vegan bakery so finding something to eat with any real protein is tough. I went with a cinnamon roll which is more like a loaf of bread with a cinnamon sugar spread on it. It’s a great spot if you’re into oddly oriented vegan food and balls of dough covering in sugar confectionery otherwise I’d try somewhere else. Also they don’t take cash.

SUCH a great vegan bakery! I stopped by after running a half marathon race in the morning, which may have been a mistake (because I was very hungry when I arrived). I got a bunch of things, including a quiche to take with me on the plane for breakfast when my flight departed New Orleans the following morning. Everything was so delicious - The Mighty Melt, the croissant, blueberry tea biscuit, and strawberry almond layer cake. I wish we had Breads on Oak where I live! But I am glad that I got to experience it when I was visiting New Orleans.

Coming into town and need a breakfast place? Are you vegan! Well Breads On Oak needs to be the place you need to hit if you’re visiting New Orleans. Sandwiches are vegan, devious and doesn’t make you feel heavy. They also have the best banquettes in town!

  • 5/5 Heena P. 1 year ago on Google
What a fantastic bakery with a great selection of sandwiches! We came here for breakfast and ordered egg o’vegans, cheese grits, and decaf lattes. Everything was tasty and reasonably priced. The service was fast and the person who took our order was nice and pleasant. This would certainly be a go-to spot for me if I lived in NOLA.

  • 5/5 Kate J. 2 years ago on Google
Their king cake is decadent! The sandwiches are amazing! Everything is vegan but you would never guess it. The baked goods look sweet!! Awesome atmosphere! Definitely a must!

I went in here for the first time today and was taken aback by the endless options. The cinnamon roll and TBTA caught my eye, and I was beyond impressed by the quality. Fresh ingredients and you can definitely taste the hard work and love involved. At the counter they also have $3 bread that isn’t their top quality as well. It’s quite pricey, but worth every penny.

  • 4/5 Christian G. 2 years ago on Google
Bread is the focus here and is quite good. The pastries and cookies are also very good, and everything is vegan. Very good variety of items. The coffee is so-so.

Yummy. The Vegan Pumpkin Cheddar egg biscuit was delicious with just a kick of heat. The biscuit, although a bit dry, was still worth it. My husband enjoyed his “ham” on toast. I make it a point to come here every time I’m in NOLA. I’m allergic to both eggs & animal dairy products so it’s one a the few times I can safely have breakfast in a restaurant.

Had an awesome brunch here. A little expensive. Expect to spent 15$ a person here. I tried the barvarian and almond cream king cake. Both were pretty good. Would return.

  • 5/5 Kristine L. 2 years ago on Google
Everything was delicious here. The sandwiches, burgers, and baked goods were all fresh and amazing. You would not even know it was all vegan. The staff was friendly, and it is a really cute place. We visited on our trip to New Orleans and decided we definitely need to come back one more time before we go home.

Amazing vegan muffuletta. I’m vegetarian and was impressed - a carnivore said it tasted authentic. There’s olive salad, 2 layers of fake meat (mild and not smoky), vegan cheese (some of the best i’ve had). Bread was great. So so tasty and half kept about 8 hrs without getting soggy. Highly recommend.

This is my favorite vegan place anywhere. I would go here every day if I lived here. The fries and the biscuit tower were phenomenal. Bread is superb. I don’t even like cinnamon rolls but the one with almond cream and raisins is so delicious. Tried the muffanada as well, which I thought was good, but not as good as some other items.

Quality control needed. The Container for the $10 salad just bought was only 1/2 filled. The fries didn’t have sauce on two separate orders (the sauce makes it). I actually like breads on oak when they get it right but can’t understand being skimpy on things like lettuce!

  • 2/5 M R. 3 years ago on Google
Checked this out on a weekday morning. Food was delicious but my biscuit sandwich was cold all the way through. Not sure why this would happen when they were dead. The staff wasn’t helpful either. I hope my experience was them just having a bad day. However, I won’t be giving them a second chance. Consistency matters. I really felt like my business was unappreciated that day.

Went there since my vegan friend was visiting from Miami. I ordered the Impossible burger with cheddar and was shocked. Amazing sauce and fresh toppings. I also didn't feel like I was going to die which almost always happens when I order a regular burger. The bread was pillowy and amazing. I had no idea vegan food could be delicious let alone vegan baked goods. Will be buying my bread there from now on as well.

The place is very clean. The few breads that I tried were excellent. The staff is all right, though one girl was a bit short with me. The prices are on the high side, but they do tend to attract the more affluent uptown New Orleans residents.

Really delicious food even if you're not vegan. Other than their obvious (and really good) veggie burger patties, you'd wouldn't be able to easily tell that their food has no egg or dairy. Relating to social distancing, they seem to be trying to be careful, the only downside is that the walking space is very limited inside with tables against the window and the counter being so big. There's a courtyard to area if you want to eat there and be a little more careful. We ate inside since it wasn't busy at the time and it was fine.

Breads on oak is one of the rare bakeries in this city that makes delicious bread and using traditional way to do so (no weird ingredients added to their bread, just clean stuff). Their brioches and chocolate croissants, eventhough they're vegan they are delicious and taste like they would from a bakery in Paris. Thank you for all your heart and work you put in this place!

LOVE THIS PLACE! Food is GREAT, vegan, and just awesome.

  • 4/5 Diego R. 3 years ago on Google
Bread is excellent. The baked goods leave a lot to be desired. The cookies are an acquired taste. I would stay away from the brioche though, they are messy and have the texture of a stale doughnut.

  • 5/5 Erich M. 3 years ago on Google
These pastries are made with compassion, you can taste it, I usually don't frequent pastry shops but they make good products that really appease, Ill definiy stop by again

Omgiggles!! This place is amazing!!! Stopped in on way from FL to Austin. In all my decades as a vegan i have never had any bread so good. We had the pumpkin cheddar biscuit sandwich, the mighty melt (nice and spicy 😈), chocolate chip cookie, brownie, and boston cream brioche (to die for!). Everything tasted decadent, well worth the money. Nice staff that didnt mind explaining things, rustic atmosphere, and seeing the actual bakery behind back of employees made it feel so intimate.

Great pastries, incredible bread, but wow is the coffee disappointing. Sure, you could argue they aren’t known for their coffee, but who doesn’t want a nice oat milk latte to go with their cinnamon roll? The best way not to mess up an oat milk latte is to, I don’t know, Shake the oat milk? I was given a watery espresso disaster because the oat milk separates and needs to be shaken before poured. I drink coffee every day and I had to leave to get one elsewhere. I’ll never order their coffee again.
