Nice spot for snorkeling. We parked in front of Eka Purnama restaurant, took the stairs to the shoreline and put our stuffs near the small food stalls run by locals. We brought our own snorkel gear. At first I thought to go diving, but went snorkeling first before visiting the dive shop. I found that the wreck is very easy to access even only with snorkeling & freedive. It is only around 30m from the beach and 5-10m meters deep. I decided not to do diving because I have seen & enjoyed the spot enough with snorkeling.

The shipwreck is a nice experience. Nice photos and a lot of fish to see. But i cannot turn a blind eye on the amount of trash floating in the water. Be aware that you are going to swim by so many plastic and microplastic. There is even some organic stuff on the water that i'm trying to believe it is from the coral (hopefully). It is a mix of paradisr and hell at the same time. Nothing can be beautiful and ugly at the same time. So either you will ignore the trash and be happy or you will feel like me in the "trashadise" So for me, the experience was nasty and sad. The trash comes from offerings people make with plastic cups by the seashore and probably some sewage too. This is the most poluted beach i have ever been. I live in Brazil, did some snorkeling in Greece and Thailand and have never seen such a horrible scenario.

Amazing snorkeling spot with rich marine life. The wreck itself is 20meters away from the beach, marked by a buoy, easily accessible for anyone. It is covered with corals, and there are lots of colorful fish. The wreck is only 5m deep down, so it is visible from above as well. The beach and the wreck is accessible through a cafe, there is a 25k idr entrance fee but it includes a drink, a shower, toilet, and a safe place to leave your valuables while diving, and there is a pebble-covered coasline to chill out after swimming. You can also rent snorkeling gear there for 50k idr, and for 200k idr they also lend you a gopro camera. The people there are super nice, definitely recommend it!

Good easy snorkel. Have to pay 25000 but get a drink for it. Hard to walk on big rocks, better to bring reef shoes

We went there with scooter, rented snorkeling equipment for 60k for 2 for 2 hours. This is the way to go by foot. ‘O need to go with a boat you can swim it’s really close to the shore. Really interesting although lots of people and boats. Fun to do and free if you have your own equipment and scooter.

The parking lot is not really big. Same when i was going there in 2015. When you want to go snorkeling or diving, the best time is in the morning. The beach is not made with sand but with small rocky beach. You can rent "jukung" For 500.000 to go to some snorkeling spots. the price of the food is so so..

Current isn't bad, the ship is just off the side of the buoy, stay away from the left side as there's a current there, the staff let us know. 25k entry which includes a free drink, I recommend the mixed fruit juice which was delicious 🤤

A terrific place to dive. Plenty of macro and wide angle photography to be had. The dive site was a little crowded when I visited there in Nov 2019 and will return in October this year.

Shipwreck is incredible to see, lots of fish. Highly recommend making the trip if your in Amed. We snorkelled and saw a lot, there were a number of people diving too. As other reviewers recommended we parked our scooter in one of the restaurants/hotels on the left hand side of the beach (Eka Purnama or Baliku) when facing the sea. We couldn’t find the designated ‘Japanese Ship Wreck Parking’ marked on Google. Take the stairs opposite Eka Purnama down to the beach. We were not charged an entrance fee. We sat at the restaurant (Kawi Karma) so that we had somewhere safe to leave our belongings. Picture shows restaurant. The staff watched our bag, and others did the same. This was for the cost of a coffee and tea (30K)! Highly recommend this spot for snorkelling. You can easily swim from the shore. We visited in the morning and it was windy. The sea was rougher than other snorkelling spots, but nothing that you couldn’t swim against. The beach is pebbles.

Visited twice: first day was ok but visibility not great. We went back second day by chance to collect forgotten item and hugely rewarded: visibility much better, spectacular views of shipwreck, coral and fish. Spectacular reef about 50m to the left from wreck as you look at sea. Worthwhile.

Easy to access and interesting snorkelling point. The wreck is small but covered with corals and you will be able to see a lot of marine life around it. The parking is by the road (probably the locals will ask you to give 2000 rupees). If you don’t have snorkeling equipment you can rent from the restaurant next to the parking. The place is also considered to be a dive spot but since is usually sallow is better for snorkelling. Try to visit early in the morning to avoid the crowds coming with the tour boats.

Lots of stinging jellyfish, lots of trash and plastic in the sea, disgusting. The shipwreck is beautiful and different kinds of fish everywhere, but this totally spoils the impression. It costs 420K to take a local boat trip from here to 3 places, two are full of trash again and the third was supposed to be a temple in the sea but was actually a small tower covered in various vegetation....useless.

Really cool but lots of stinging jellyfish. We left. I am not sure if the jellyfish are seasonal or all the time but ouch!

Really nice place for some snorkeling! The water is super clear and not too deep. We went via the restaurant so that we had somewhere to leave our things and a place to hire equipment. If you're coming from the water, it would be even better!

A quiet and comfortable place for snorkeling, quiet because I was voting in the presidential election 😀

Compared to other snorkeling spots, the Japanese shipwreck is simply overrated, with lots of people being dropped off just for a few minutes to see the ship and move on. The number and variety of fish is modest compared to, for example, Amed Beach. The beach itself is not comfortable neither to sunbath on, nor walk on, due to large stones.

25'000 IR entrance and drink included, to snorkel in plastic waste soup... I only stayed 1 minute and already had handfuls of junk.... and if you talk to the owners about it, the answer you get is: "go away" .... depressing for those who care about the environment ... and the tourist boats are waiting above the wreck, so that it is even dangerous for others ... wrong place, unfriendly, dirty and not recommended ... ..

The wreck is good, but the location was not as good. There are a bunch of people taking money for entrance and parking, but it doesn't look like they spend that money in that place. There is barely enough space to put clothes down, and then it looks dirty. But clear water and nice snorkeling!

A fantastic wreck just off the beach. Perfect for snorkelling and free diving. The wreck is only 5m down maximum so very very easy. All sorts there. It got busier by about 10am so would recommend getting there earlier when the water is calmer and there are fewer boats. Otherwise all you see is bubbles from the scuba below!

Easy snorkeling or diving from shore. Limited parking space. About 50m from parking to water over a well-worn path through the trees. Getting to the water can involve maneuvering around boats. The beach is not sandy but made up of smooth rounded rocks. The wreck is in a poor state about 20-30m from shore. Easy to swim to. There is also plenty of coral around to the north. Didn't check the south end.

You will receive a ticket if you pay the entrance fee of 25K. You can pay for drinks or food with this ticket Reasonable price but long distance and shipwreck There wasn't much to see

It’s a shallow wreck which is good to snorkel around, plenty of colourful fish. I wouldn’t pay to scuba it, snorkelling/free diving is fine and much cheaper. There is a Warung right there that was safe to leave our belongings at when we were in the water. We just rented our masks and fins in Amed and self drove there - don’t need to pay for a tour. Nice activity for a couple of hours. If you only have one day, the USAT Liberty wreck is more interesting

We are not that experienced at snorkelling, and it took a little bit to get in the water against the small waves, but people there will help. Everyone just wants to enjoy it. It's a bit of the bank, maybe 80M or so. There was a slight current flowing parallel to the bank. there were heaps of fish and it was easily visible from surface. Definitely worth visiting. We will go back next time we are in amed.

Not much to see underwater, wreck is quite small and not that many fish. Entrance fee required to access but you can redeem for a drink at the café underneath that is in the shadows, which is quite nice.

I love this place more than the liberty ship one as they offer much cheaper rental for snorkels and the ticket to enter includes drinks which was much needed after the snorkel. Even the fishes were more vibrant and nicer to look at.

Nice spot for snorkeling, shipwreck It's very close to the beach and easy to explore. On the beach there is a Warung useful for starting point and get a lunch, nothing special but honest

Great place to do some snorkeling. Pro tip: come in the morning! Later during the day the winds/tide will pick up and the sea will be more wild. The sea is clear, lots of fishes and obviously the wreck which is cool. The beach is not made of sand but of rocks, so not a nice place to chill. You can easily park your car/scooter if you search for "Japanese ship wreck parking".

A very rough road to get there, took about 20 minutes, the view was good but access to the beach a bit awkward, overgrown & unkept. Could be better.

When we come here, we cannot see clearly the shipwreck, maybe because the wave was a bit strong when we come. We parked our car near the entrance to the beach, where we met a helpful guy that rent snorkeling equipment and offering as a guide to the shipwreck, we bring our own equipment so we only use his guide service (100k).

This was a totally terrible experience. Maybe because it was Sunday the place was crowded even at 9 am so if you want to see the shipreck - which we found not impressive at all by the way - you have to find your way in the water among a bunch of other people. But the worst is security - there were always 2-3 boats lingering not at a distance, but right above the shipreck waiting for their clients, twisting around and not looking out for other swimmers, threatening to knock your head, moving about with motor running. We actually almost got knocked out raising the head above the water and finding out one of the boats drifted there and the sailor did not take any security measures. See the photo how this experience looked from the shore. The staff member when we pointed out to this totally unacceptable lack of security just told us something unclear about the boat parking. The entrance is 25 000 which seemed quite ok considering the free welcome drink, but eventually we were there for a short and very uncomfortable swim and soon left for a different place. I think it was not worth spending our time and money. The drink was ok though.
