Just
opposite
to
the
famous
Pine
View
Nursery,
this
house
was
built
and
used
by
Rathindranath
Tagore,
so
of
the
great
poet
Rabindranath.
As
per
a
plaque
at
the
gate,
this
place
was
built
exactly
2
years
after
Rabindranath’s
death,
on
8th
August
1843
(22
Shraban
1350
bangabda).
The
Nobel
Laureate
poet
did
select
the
land,
but
did
not
see
the
house
built,
and
hence
never
stayed
here.
The
house
is
named
Chitra
Bhanu,
same
as
Rathindranath’s
studio
in
Shantiniketan.
Pratima
Devi,
wife
of
Rathindranath,
stayed
here
for
extended
period,
and
set
up
workshops
assisting
local
youth
to
be
trained
in
craftsmanship.
In
1962,
she
handed
this
institution
to
Govt.
of
West
Bengal.
Later,
in
2018,
this
place
was
declared
a
heritage
property.
There’s
a
small
but
very
carefully
built
museum
at
ground
floor
of
this
two-story
house.
View
from
the
lawn
is
mesmerizing,
and
has
an
amazing
collection
of
flora.
