Never thought of finding the house in such a condition. Very disappointing. It needs immediate renovation. Some locals stay there behind the house to clean the compound instead of very small amount of money from the GOVT. The nostalgic part is the Camphor tree (āĻ•āĻ°ā§āĻĒā§‚āĻ° āĻ—āĻžāĻ›) just in font of the house was planted by Rabindranath Tagore himself.

One of the heritage buildings of North Bengal. But, this historical building needs the government's favour. Overall, this will give you a good experience.

The Gouripur residence of the great bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore is a beautiful site. Great as a photographic scene. However, lack of maintenance makes it look a bit eerie and spooky (it isn't though).

Just because of the sheer heritage of the place, it deserves 5 stars. But I am forced to give 4 stars for two reasons. First and foremost, it is extremely difficult to locate this place. Google will show you the route, but there is not a single sign board in the area which will guide you there. We were lucky to meet a few students and parents returning from school, who guided us towards the right path. The winding road which goes down leading to the house is motorable, but is not in great shape. Second of all, as a true Tagore fan you will be utterly disappointed to see the house in such a state. Only the marble block in front of the house declares the heritage of the house where Tagore spent a lot of his last years. It was from this place that he recited his "Hey Nutan" poem on phone to Akashvani. In front of the house you will see the two trees which have been planted by Tagore himself. But the house itself lies in ruins, locked with nothing of value inside. A family lives towards the back apparently to take care of what is left. Nevertheless if you are a history seeker, you can always visit to relive the bard's connection with Kalimpong.

If you are in Kalimpong, visit this place once. You'll love it. It was once a house of world renowned poet Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore ji. I was glad to walk through the rooms where he lived once. It has the old charm intact. I truly wish the authorities could take more care of such an old heritage.

(Translated by Google) "Oh, I don't see the film, do I? 'Where the fear of ghosts' ...?" I was startled by the Nepali lady's words. She agreed and said, Koi nehi ata ... " Really ... I was upset to see the Gauripur residence lying in a state of disrepair due to lack of maintenance. I went inside and discovered that house and that fireplace! Simon's ghost is supposed to be sitting in the chair next to him, at half past seven in the evening ... But there is another identity of Gauripur residence! What is possible to ignore the authentic Bengali! On the site-seeing tour, the poet was four times between 1938 and 1940 at the Gauripur residence, a haunted house waiting for tourists, just a mile and a half away from the hands of Army Golf Club and Morgan House. 'The poem was recited and aired on Akashvani 82 years ago today! Standing in front of this house is a tall camphor sapling planted by Rabindranath Tagore himself! History to wear! But looking at the dilapidated condition of the house with Rabindrasmriti, it seems ... Do we really know how to give due dignity? How is such a miserable state invisible to the government? How did the construction of Kalimpong Polytechnic College flourish in front of such a historic palace? I don't know, but I am happy to see and know that the local people are more aware of the greatness of this house than many Bengalis. I was skeptical about it. Our driver gentleman, Ningma Lama, drove it himself. In fact, his friend told us the day before that Sebari was near our hotel! We are grateful to these two gentlemen There is a request for everyone ... If you go to Kalimpong, you must visit Gauripur Nibas. Maybe if the public gatherings increase, the place can regain its glory. l (Original) "āĻ†āĻĒāĻ˛ā§‹āĻ— āĻ“āĻš āĻĢāĻŋāĻ˛ā§āĻŽ āĻĻā§‡āĻ–āĻŋ āĻšā§āĻ¯āĻžā§Ÿ āĻ¨āĻž ? On our way from Morgan House back to city, our cab-driver offered to take us to Gouripur House. I was aware of this place, but had absolutely no idea where it’s located and current condition. It took us possibly 5-7 minutes, and the driver told us that the road leading to this place continues to the West Bengal Tourism’s Hilltop Tourist Lodge. The house is situated on a step plain sprawling land. The condition of the building demands immediate maintenance and refurbishment. I was told by the driver that Govt. of West Bengal is planning to repair and set up a Tagore museum in near future, and the process is delayed because of COVID-19. Rabindranath Tagore had stayed in this house on more than one occasion; and most notably, All India Radio had recorded his recitation of ‘Janmodin’ on 8th April 1938 (25 Baisakh, 1345 bangabda). Couple of gigantic trees in front of the house, planted by Tagore himself, complete the landscape. Only one thing obstructed view of The Valley in Front - is the polytechnic college painted in white and blue at a step just below this house. I wish, the authorities found a different place to construct this building, which just ruins the view. Overall, a must visit, I’d say, for any tourists visiting Kalimpong. I hope, on my next visit, I’d be able to visit a renovated Tagore museum here!

I give this place a five-star rating for its historical value. However, I am saddened to see that the government is not maintaining this place. As a foreigner, it is disheartening to see that more than half of the house is occupied, and a new door has been installed on the ground floor, serving as someone's home. I am really worried that this historically significant building will be destroyed. I have heard that if an Indian occupies a government property for ten years, it becomes theirs. But I am concerned that they will not maintain it as they do not understand its value. Is there anyone who can help and contact the government? This is a good thing for the local people too, as if it becomes a tourist spot, the nearby residents can also earn some money. But without protection, as a foreigner, I came all the way here, bought a ticket, and only then saw the history. If it is not maintained, it will only be forgotten. People should be aware of such behavior.

The place doesn't look same as the photos on the internet, and one can't enter the house as it's very old and abandoned. By the looking at the current condition of the house, it seems like no one maintains it either. You can visit the place and have a look around it.

(Translated by Google) We visited Rabindranath's memorial place, at Gaurikunj Gauri Kunj in Kalimpong, where the poet wrote the poem Baskalin's Birthday and planted two camphor trees, which still exist today. There has been a museum in Mongpu, there are a lot of valuable documents, and I saw a sweet flower, named after the poet Cadamelia !! One of the beautiful structure of Old kalimpong town once inhabited by the famous poet Rabindranath Tagore, is under renovation at present. The sculpture of the building is really unique. The view of the Kalimpong town is mesmerizing from this place. Some beautiful wild flowers are blooming in the place giving the place some more attraction.

The historical place is a neglected rather abandoned and probably condemned house. It is not maintained by any body. Very few local people can give you the direction to reach it. But surprisingly Google was right about its location. But in the hills sometimes it was very difficult to follow the route direction of narrow roads. We could not enter the house as nobody was there to guide and it seemed to be unsafe.

Feeling very sad to watch the broken, haunted house which is associated with the memory of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore. Administration must take immediate step to restore it properly.

This place should be one of the best preserved place. However it's in a dilapidated state and is badly in need of a thorough renovation. This is the house where Nobel laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore used to stay when he visited Kalimpong. He even broadcast some lines from Geetanjal through All India Radio from this house. It's a great historical landmark.

This is the house which Rabindra nath Tagore used as a summer home. The architecture of the house is amazing. This house was built atleast 100 years from now. Every room has a fire place and pillers are round and arched doors all around. The building must have been built by spending huge amounts of money. As two storeys was not common during the early days. There is also a drive way and a stable for horses if you notice. The building must have offered a great view to the great poet from second storey. I hope one day this building could be restored to its former glory and we could go inside and experience what the great Tagore must have felt while he was here.
