Playa Montañita is deserving of its reputation as a haven for surfers, backpackers, partygoers and bohemian hipster types. One minute spent anywhere in the bar and Lou get strewn main part of town is enough to give a person seeking quiet and solitude a fright that won’t soon be forgotten. If alcohol lubricates the action in town, open use of drugs (clearly in evidence several times during the course of my visit) “enlightens” the action. However, if one stays at the extreme north end of town, near the towering cliff that buttresses the rocky shoreline and breakwater, there is a much quieter atmosphere and a certain peace to be had simply from watching the exceptional athleticism and grace of many of the surfers 🏄🏼‍♂️ as they practice their craft, sometimes seeming to balance impossibly atop the wildness of the waves. There is SOME good food to be had and there are several nice lodges and hostels in town but it’s certainly worth doing some careful research if you’re hoping to enjoy a quiet stay on the beach...and probably worth looking into the much quieter town of Olon, just a couple of mikes up the road, as well.

Awesome beach and party place. Many places to stay and eat at an affordable rate. You can do just about anything here, smoke, drink and party. The only down fall is the possibility of being robbed so if you go, don't go alone and don't take anything from anyone in the streets. Due to the pandemic the party life was near nothing.

Laid back beautiful inexpensive surfers paradise.... Lotsa of accommodation on the beach... Weather is polar opposite of the USA.... E. G cold months... Which is 75 f... Considered "cold"... Is may through Aug season starts Sept...people often come to visit and stay back for way longer than plan... Possibly the one beach u can miss in Ecuador. Also one of the best surfing destinations in South America. Surprisingly awesome choice of food... U get everything from organic to super delicious Peruvian and other esoteric cuisine. Roadside stalls are super cheap and clean. Never had a problem eating the food here.

My beloved place on earth! Came here as a backpacker 6 years ago for mere 2 days and ended up staying for good, settling down and opening a hostel - El Cielo Montanita. Highly recommended for surf, nature, good food, fun and party lovers. MONTAÑITA has it all!

Was there for a week, the beach is great, the small town is sympatico, lots of restaurants and clubbing are available, surfing is a popular thing to do. Be careful at night to go to the beach, I got my iPhone13pro stolen with my cash after a night at the disco... God out to bars to drink with the minimum and watch your drinks!!! Now the thing is the girls that are attached to gangs, put a sort of powder on their shoulder or in your drinks and you lose all notions of consciousness. Drink responsibly.

Very nice place. Ocean is great, sandy bottom for one hundred meters at least. A lot of places to stay, no need to book in advance (except carnivals).

Really cool and relaxed town. Lots of locals which is always a great sign. If you enjoy hanging out at the beach and drinking at night this is a great place to visit. Even on the off season it was still pretty busy, I can only imagine what it must be like during the high season.

Very popular beach town. Because it's a very small town, during season or weekends, the town's center is packed packed, left right front center with tourists. Pictures around town. - 2022/09/25

It was better than expected, it is small place with a lot of tourists but a ton of activities to do, places to eat and drink and dance. Gloria's Cocktails is one of the best places to get good quality alcoholic drinks. Another place to eat, drink and dance is CañaGrill. Also to eat, try Rastapan. PakaLoro was our place of resting, not the best but not bad.

It’s an amazing place in Ecuador, the food and the attractions are not too expensive, you can practice parasailing and in a special season you can take a boat and watch the whales. People is kind but you need to be careful, excellent place to be with friends. Parties all the week Sunday-to-Sunday guaranteed. 🎉🥳🎊

One of the best beaches in Ecuador. Many foreign people can be encountered here, which means you're able to hear so many different languages. Food in many places is very delicious. Hotels are quite expensive. However, they're totally worth it. Nevertheless, one is able to find cheap hostels in which you can get a cozy room. Most of them are with air conditioning. Parties never end here. So many places in which one can dance many different genres. From techno and electronic to salsa and latin music. Top place in Ecuador. There's even a Spanish school if you're trying to learn the language. It's very professional and affordable.
