The Arqueo Museo Hojas Jaboncillo at Picoazá near Portoviejo, Ecuador, exhibits finds from the nearby archaeological park Cerro Hojas Jaboncillo. Artifacts from the Manteño culture which occupied much of the coast of Ecuador during the Integration Period (500 to 1531 AD) include heavy U-shaped stone chairs used during rituals by the pre-Hispanic Manteño elites to symbolize their chiefly authority.

This is a place where you'll understand better the precolumbian cultures of the coast, what they were doing and also the actual traditions of the local people around.

An interesting archeological site with ruins all the way up a mountain where the Manteña culture were situated. The guides (who only speak spanish) invite you to learn about the current culture in the town of Picoazá at the same time. A good hike up the hill, but contains useful resting points at exactly the right places.

Within the 3,500 hectares there are at least 600 monumental structures belonging to the Manteña Culture, evidence of a possible pre-Hispanic “City” of great magnitude, related to the economy and the sacred valuation of the Spondylus shell and the famous stone chairs or seats in U-shape. Within the Archaeological Park, the area of the “Camino de El Puma” of about 50 hectares located about 300 meters above sea level has been developed, where investigations are carried out and the architectural structures associated with routes have been valued and walkways, which also allow contact with the dry tropical forest within which the ceibo and the holy stick stand out. The area described above is articulated to the Research Center and future museum, within the Picoazá parish, Portoviejo canton. The way they settled is very similar to Machu Pichu, they relate to other cultures that have many similarities in terms of trade and life in general.
