Had a great 2 night stay here. Luxurious decor and modern finishes. The breakfast is good with a nice variety. Right on the arch and close to all the shops and restaurants. Rooms are efficient, quite small but nicely laid out. Thought the shower was in the middle of the room but they have a curtain to utilize to divide the space.

My short stay at Protea Hotel Fire & Ice Melrose Arc during a work trip was nothing short of excellent! From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and efficient. The check-in process was a breeze, and they were accommodating with my specific requests. The room itself was a cozy haven after a long day of meetings. Impeccably clean, well-designed, and equipped with all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was a dream – plush and inviting, ensuring a restful night's sleep. What truly set this hotel apart was the exceptional service. The staff went above and beyond to make my stay enjoyable. They were attentive to my needs, providing prompt room service and offering helpful local recommendations. The central location was another plus, making it easy to navigate the city for both work and leisure. Whether you're in town for business or pleasure, I highly recommend this hotel for its outstanding service, comfortable accommodations, and convenient location. A five-star experience all around!

A 50' and 60' Hollywood's celebrities inspired, fancy, sparkling and glamorous hotel. I've been here several times as flight crew. This hotel is located in the luxury neighbourhood of Melrose arch, and is close to many interesting shops, luxury boutique and amazing restaurants. Rooms are quite spacious, smartly organised and furnished of all comforts. I would say, not really silent unfortunately, maids should speak not so loudly. Bar and restaurant serve very tasty and well presented food & drinks, with a unique offer of milkshakes and a variety of signature burgers. Breakfast buffet is very tasty, abundant and well presented...delicious apple and apricot compote. Fitness centre is a bit minimal, but furnished enough to do the basic cardio and weight exercises. Last but not least, the staff is very friendly, professional, attentive and prompt to assist...and welcome us every time with nice milkshakes 😊😊😊 Strongly recommended

Beautiful place to stay on a late night or a family vacay in Jozi North. Protea as a member of the Marriott Hotels Family is just a Family Friendly place to spend a night or a Weekend stay when you pop in to see folks in Johannesburg. The great staff here is straight from Heaven and Kudos to the management also that goes all the way to ensure pure happiness to guests.

Hotel location in Melrose Arch is great, plenty of amenities. I can only speak of my 3 day experience but from my point of view, rooms are below average 4 star hotels: it is dated and it clearly requires several improvements. Staff is really nice and attentive always willing to provide a great service. Nice lounge area on the 1st floor, including a terrace and small swimming pool within an internal courtyard. The overall experience is not great I am afraid.

Protea Hotel Fire & Ice is beautiful and has the nicest interior decor with the group. Their food was nice and the environment is perfect at this Melrose Arch complex with access to lots of shopping and adult entertainment at night. The hotel lost out on a few service points because they didn't seem to be coping very well when the place was full. The reception area is too small and get crammed when other guests are trying to check-in or when checking out etc. They need to work on improving their service across the board.

This is my favourite hotel in Johannesburg, not just because of the excellent location but also because of the brilliant services and welcoming staff. *Front desk*: I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the exceptional service I received during my stay at the hotel. Your attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond made my experience truly memorable. Your kindness and professionalism made me feel welcome and valued, and I appreciate all of the help and assistance you provided. Thank you for making my stay so enjoyable. I look forward to returning in the future. 👍👍👍👊👊👊

Everything thing is perfect about this hotel except for the shower and basin which are placed in the open room area. That didn't work for me! The food quality and taste: average

The hotel hosts a great event. Had a big birthday event here. Very cozy and very friendly. But - the restaurant needs help. One can’t accidentally mix vegetarian and non-vegetarian on a platter or take over an hour for 1 burger (when traffic is low) and get away with an “oops, sorry”. Service in general just poor (or misses expectations) and feels a little chaotic. I don’t think we actually had a waiter - just someone that felt like doing us a favour to chat to the kitchen. There are better options available to you - less than 20 meters away.

Very nice hotel which I am told is very fancy for the area. I was disappointed to not have the normal things I would expect in a hotel such as shampoo and conditioner. They only have body wash and no wash clothes, only large towels. There are only 12 working TV channels and 4 of them are playing Soccer games. It is nice but I wanted to be thorough in my review. The area feels very safe as a stark contrast to the rest of the city outside of the gates of Melrose Arch.

Horrible! When I arrived to the hotel the wifi was not working nor the room keys! The power went off and I got stuck in the lift! At checkout I was charged my bill twice and no one answers to my emails for a refund.

Impressions - The hotel decor is stunning. The waiting staff, mixologist and managers are friendly and welcoming Burgers - We had “Jaws”, 300g double beef patty burgers. Not enjoyable: it was bland and the chips were oily ☹️ Steak - Rump steak with mushroom & whiskey sauce, served with steamed veggies and potato bake was great ⭐️ Steak was delicious, veggies were ok but the potato bake was bland. Milkshake Bar - Pretty awesome 👏 they serve alcoholic milkshakes 🙌 Kudos to Thato, our waiter…you were superb. Helpful, witty, entertaining 🌟

The restaurant is a complete disaster now. If I could give a zero rating I would. We made a valentines reservation for 730pm. Got there... they overbooked only got a seat around 830pm. Tried to place an order as they had a limited menu. Of the 3 starter options they had, the one had run out. Food only came around 930pm.

The shower is see through glass and is right in the room. There is a curtain to block it off, but if you are staying with friends it may not be the best choice. The breakfast buffet was nice and the staff was very friendly. It is part of Melrose Garden which has lots of restaurants and shops. It is very safe.

It's a good hotel; but they need to service some of their lifts & soap/paper towel dispensers that are motion sensing.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Protea Fire and Ice in Melrose Arch. The host at reception was friendly and let me check-in a few minutes earlier. The hotel staff was kind and attentive. The food at the hotel restaurant was great and they delivered it to my room without charging room delivery fees. The room was clean and comfortable and the hotel is in a great location, near all the shops and restaurants in Melrose Arch. Woul stay there again! Only possible negative is that the hotel has parties and DJs so if you want quiet to sleep, you need to wait until 10pm. But if like me you were not there to sleep early, you will have no issues.

I love this hotel. I've stayed here so many times I've lost track. Gorgeous decor, ultimate luxury, delicious breakfasts, amazing milkshakes. The ultimate "home away from home" quick weekend away that feels like you've traveled so far & yet you're still in Jhb.

Afternoon early evening - The roof top vibe is enjoyable, not to loud, a youngish professional / tourist mixed crowd. Waiters are friendly, food options are ok... but more of a sundowner vibe is what I picked up. Good for networking.

I recently had the pleasant stay and my experience was nothing short of delightful. The hotel's serene ambiance provided a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The staff is amazing, it is the attention to Clients for me. From the warm welcome at check-in to the attentive assistance throughout my stay. Rooms were tastefully decorated, offering a perfect blend of modern amenities and cozy charm., with comfortable bedding, bathrooms, and thoughtful touches that enhanced the overall comfort. Dining was a culinary delight. The on-site restaurant served a diverse menu with dishes that pleased both the palate and the eye. The breakfast buffet was particularly impressive, featuring a variety of fresh and delicious options to start the day on a high note.

Such a beautiful hotel, their service is toptier, the staff is so caring and friendly always willing to assist. I don't want to mention the comfort I've experienced through out my stay with them. Cleanliness and beautiful and classy linen. The hotel is situated in such beautiful location with great views. If you are looking for class then, this hotel is for you.

The staff t are very welcoming, and you just feel at home. Exquisite layout and the food is just devine. I would have loved to stay there for a whole week, including the weekend. I really enjoyed the gym gym well. Did I mention the food... just awesome.

Loved the warm and welcoming ambiance as I entered the hotel. They have friendly staff who treat you with great professionalism and willingness to assist. Their rooms are comfortable and immaculately clean, with state of the art rooms and bathrooms. If you're a fitness bunny like me you'll enjoy their fitness center as well and after that I enjoyed a smoothy at their beautiful swimming pool. They've got a wide variety of buffet for breakfast, great menu for dinner and the spot to be in for your Christmas lunch if your family is lazy to cook this Christmas. Their location is very central and you'll be able to commute to many parts of JHB. Loved it!

If we didn't have other things to do, we would have stayed there for a whole week, including the weekend. It has a gym for those who like to stay in shape and let me not start with the food. You could tell they were prepared with love. I would gladly go there again.

The staff was amazing! The location is amazing! The food was amazing as well. I stayed here in 2019. I rated 4/5 because I did not like how the bathrooms were. The shower is just hidden behind a curtain. The sink also kept getting clogged.

Tiny gym, weight lifting instruments don't work close to properly. Machines say 20kg is 40lbs which may turn out harmful or dangerous for distracted people. Loud music in pool deck. You can't get a peaceful meal!

Rooms with questionable design solutions, tiny gym. Found dark hair locks in the shower, that probably belonged to the previous guest, as I’m a blonde. Staff was quite friendly though

Cool, chilled place... milkshakes are fantastic, burgers are great and the butter-chicken is very nice...

Disappointing. Every drink we asked for on menu was out of stock and waiter very confused about the rest. Finally got a drink that was way too strong for a city where people predominantly drive. Also had to pay £30 in data roaming charges to see the menu as it is only available online.

I stayed at this hotel probably more then 50 nights... the staff are very nice, got upgraded many time because of status. the restaurant offer a decent choice of food, but all the around melrose arch you have a lot of choices. The facilities are a bit limited, the pool is nice in summer but the gym is quite small. rooms are clean and functional but poor designed for the bathrooms, they are not separated from the bed.

Great reception from all the staff, except for the manager Gugu, her attitude is not very nice towards guests. Wish she could fix that

We visited the Milkshake bar on Saturday 19.01.2022,but was totally disappointed ,with the service and the so called gourmet milkshake, that was nothing to rave about ,most of the flavors were not available We were seated handed a menu and the waitress disappeared for a full 20 minutes despite this the restaurant being very quite, finally flagged down another waiter ,milkshakes were served, absolute bland shakes no care is taken, will not recommend to anyone !!!!!!

Enjoyable visit on the whole. View was average as our room was overlooking the Marriot Hotel opposite. Definitely worth trying to get the courtyard facing rooms as the street views come with added external noise. Staff were friendly and attentive and professional. Room was decent and clean. TV options very limited and should be better at this price point. However the real downside was the relative lack of sound proofing between rooms. We had very noisy neighbouring guests and all their conversations, TV viewing and door banging could be clearly heard. Not great.

I had lunch there and sat in the lounge for drinks, I didn't use the rooms. It's a beautiful place in a location where you can pretty much walk anywhere to shop for anything. The service was very good and friendly too.

Never stepping foot in it again. Terrible service much to my embarrassment coz I took a friend there after raving about it. This was based on Sunday buffets which I loved from 2015 right before they shut down to renovate or was it sold?Standards have gone down. Glad we passed through Mariott right across ghe street, that is 10stars!

Love the Bar in First Floor. The stars aren't doing justice to the experience. Right in the heart of Melrose Arch, a gem. Fire and Ice !

  • 1/5 Maria Van N. 2 years ago on Google
Would not recommend. Rooms are clean, but that is only positive. For the rates charged, there are far nicer hotels within the precinct.

Very trendy hotel with questionable decor. Weekends are party vibes so might not be for everyone. Service and selection at breakfast is good but same can't be said about the service from the front desk unfortunately. Location is excellent in a very safe, walkable precinct.

  • 2/5 Tshego K. 1 year ago on Google
Be careful when making a booking at this place. Our arrangements were not adhered to and there was nothing they could do to help us. Bedrooms weren't ready when we checked in. Key cards kept giving problems. Actually dissapointed :(

  • 4/5 Ma Leah R. 2 years ago on Google
Rooms are tiny and it can be very noisy especially during Fridays and the weekends. However, the location is good and safe. The restaurant has got an outdoor sitting next to the pool and the food is reasonably good except the breakfast which has gone downhill over time in terms of quality. Milkshake bar almost always do not have all the flavors available which can be disappointing to those ones looking forward to trying their famous milkshakes. Servers have impecable attention to details which is rare in this part of the world.
