Dropped into this establishment on a rainy day and I was damn hungry. Had never heard of it and came across it my chance. It a warm environment with a pub feel. Upon entering, on a busy day, you’ll see various groups of friends and family dining, and you can clearly see everyone is having a jolly good time. The waiters are observant and quick to fulfil orders. Now; as for the food, I will say this, arguably the best ribs I’ve had in Joburg, the were perfection, tender and the barbecue marinade was impeccable. The steaks were paired with onion rings and hand-cut fries which I thoroughly enjoyed. Also ordered a greek salad which was fresh and delectable. Thunder gun, as the name suggests, will give you a thunderous experience. I’m definitely going back. The menu is a bit on the mid-range pricing but trust me, it’s all worth it. I highly recommend.

I have been to Thunder Gun a few times (I'm surprised that I never did a review) If you feel like eating a BIG meat, I would definitely recommend Thunder Gun. The meats are always cooked to perfection and very well-prepared. It comes with sides of your choice and there's other variety of dishes to choose from. It is a steakhouse so they offer more meat choices. They also have a Monday carvery which not many places offer that. Their menu items may look simple and traditional but it just tasted so good from simple halloumi salad to a chocolate volcano cake. Their prices are well-valued and their servers are so hands-on. They are very busy (very popular restaurant) and they still managed to get the food out on good times. Their restaurant got that "saloon, cowboy, the old west look" which is great and add to the vibe of the restaurant!!!

I've been going here since I was a small child and in those 30 years nothing has changed; the decor, staff friendliness, feel, food and ribs have all remained the same. My favourite rib joint in the country by far. Nothing short of spectacular every single time.

Really love coming here. It's really a placey wife and I love coming to on a special occasion because we really enjoy the ribs and volcano cake/dessert. The service is great, staff friendly and there is always a great atmosphere! So happy to always be in a full restaurant and see other people enjoy their amazing meals. Ribs obviously amazing. Look forward to trying more on this great menu!

Totally lovely dinner out here. Fillet and ribs were simply delicious. Price looks affordable too. Dessert were nice too as well as the beers. Recommending this place to anyone around.

Best ribs I’ve ever had. They are always busy but you don’t wait long for big orders. The quality of the food has been the same for years. I love every order of ribs I get from there. I definitely recommend Thunder Gun if you enjoy ribs. I promise, you definitely will not regret it. These owners, managers and chefs know what they are doing. Food was tasty. Calamari starter a winner. Ribs awesome Portuguese was saucy not my favourite but individual tastes here. Original was delicious. Portion great . Definitely worth a visit

Always great to eat here. Whilst not the cheapest place- it’s worth it. As they get very busy and you can’t book a table on weekends, it’s best to arrive early if you are a big group. Service is excellent and managers always ensuring things run smoothly. Steaks and ribs are the most commonly ordered and what we usually eat when coming here. Remains very consistent over so many years.

Best place for ribs in Jozi. Generous portions are served ...., and their sauce is the best in town. They also have an instore bar.

Great institution that has been in Joburg for many years. Steakhouse with screens for sport and great selection of beers and all the meaty things you could want. Ribs great, meat cut selection is very v as tied and great spot to hang out, go for dinner or watch the footie or rugby.

Awesome steak house. Food is well prepared and excellent ..... Always full. Service was good, friendly staff and waiters I wanted my steak prepared in a different way (dietary restrictions) and my instruction was followed perfectly ❤️😍

Had a Sunday roast craving and Thunder Gun delivered! DELICIOUS 😋 Reminded me of old traditional carvery’s on holiday. So so good! Crispiest golden roasted potatoes, pork roast with crackling, lamb beef roast. Green beans, butternut, carrots, loads of gravy and the required condiments of apple, mint and horseradish on the side. R155 per person is such good value for money 💰 (Dine in only, no soggy bags.) Bookings only taken at midday and then it’s first come first serve for walk ins thereafter.

The staff was attentive and friendly, making me feel right at home. Now, let's talk about the food. The ribs were cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, and the pub-style dishes were a delightful surprise. The menu offered a great variety, catering to all tastes. The ambiance was perfect for a casual dinner or a special occasion. It's a place where you can enjoy a great meal and relax with friends or family. I can't recommend Thunder Gun enough. Amazing steak and starters, ordered the 800g steak, calamari and chips and prawn cocktails, everything that we ordered was really good defiantly worth a try, you will not be disappointed.

We popped in to try the ribs after seeing a Facebook post about the restaurant and we were not disappointed!! The ribs were absolutely delicious, I had the pork ribs and my hubby had the beef ribs (he's not a fan of fatty meat), we thoroughly enjoyed our food and the atmosphere was cute and quaint. The only 'compliant' that we have is that the portion of veg/sides served with the ribs are tiny, some more veg would be great. We will definitely be back and will highly recommend.

The staff were legitimately the friendliest I've ever met!! Not only was the service outstanding, but the food was delicious. The rib portion sizes were on another level altogether!!! Also, I'm really happy about how amazing the milkshakes were. Great value for money, great food. Definitely recommend.

We had a fantastic experience at Thunder Gun. We ordered Billy the kid, which is a full rack of ribs. It is marinated in a delicious barbecue sauce that leaves you wanting more. The chips are super crispy, and they come with a portion of onion rings. For dessert, we tried the volcano cake with ice cream. It was absolutely incredible! Definitely recommend for a family outing or date night.

Meat is of great quality, Ribs are quite famous and they deserve the reputation. They need a bigger store though 🤣

I went to this place because Tik tok was going crazy about it (apparently it had the best ribs in South Africa-I wanted to confirm for myself) I looked it up on Google. Now, at this point my expectations were so high. I ordered the 1kg ribs. Turns out they were ordinary tasting bland ribs and bit dry too. Not bad but nothing to talk about really. The veggies? Well...just your gogo's kind of veggies.Nothing special about it. Which was a bit disappointing. The service was great though.The staff is very friendly. The portion sizes are huge. You get value for your money. It's great for large groups and to come with family. You will leave full!!

Classic Steakhouse with all the usual stuff on the menu. They must be doing something right, having been around since 1968 and still being packed every day. Having said that, the food tasted a little “mass produced” lacking a bit of taste/seasoning, and very little regard for presentation.

Just had lunch at the famous Thundergun. How disappointing was that. Four different burgers, all overcooked and tasteless. Milkshakes were insipid and the vegetables were watery. Not up to standard at all- won't be doing that again.

Love love love!!!! Ribs- too die for!!! The best I have had, huge portion sizes and absolutely delicious! I DO NOT understand why other customers say it needs a face-lift when it's success for being around for such a long time not purely not based on how fancy the place is but by the delicious meals prepared and the amazing service. The whole western theme is such a vibe and you don't find establishments like this anymore. Loved the relationship of regular customers chatting across from tables and the engagement from the manager. Personally-I don't think you need to change a thing as this restaurant is what u call a gem! They have amazing specials so make sure u try them out. They do have secure parking and seating available inside and outside the restaurant.

Cowboy style restaurant with excellent steaks, ribs, burgers and beer. Excellent quality. Sort of like a better spur. Very authentic and feels like the real deal. Very old school. Would definitely recommend. If you are also looking for the best thing on the menu, the ribs are a showstopper (especially the Portuguese style). An absolute must. Also have craft beer that is very tasty and well priced. Quite a busy restaurant so we usually get a booking. One of our favorite spots around and you get what you pay for. Staff is very professional and feels like they have been working there all their life. A thumbs up in my book.

Nice cowboy ambience. Relatively pricey for what it delivers, in my experience. Food is "better than Spur, but not great". It's all the classics, done well.

All I can say is, amazing. The food was delicious and filling, the waiters were friendly, pleasant and cracked a couple of jokes. A big recommendation for anyone look for a good steakhouse. And go for the ribs.

3 stars good waiter steak not so good though....

A long time ago during my highschool years a friend of mine took me on vacation with him and whilst there he imparted unto me the best ribs I have ever had in my life that his Portuguese grandad braai'd for us... Since then I've been searching for ribs that would be even nearly as good but, to no avail...until Thunder Gun that is. Best gosh darn beef ribs in the West in the North! So good, in fact, that my GF and I have made Thunder Gun our anniversary dinner spot with the Lone Ranger 1kg rack our go-to every time. Their staff are amazing and the restaurant really homey, too. Their Cajun sirloin steak is also just incredible!

Great food, great atmosphere - a great place to be! If you're looking for an awesome place to go out for food, Thunder Gun should be at the top of your list.

This Resturant is a 10/10 best place to have a Great meal , Ribs to Die, chips and the onion rings very very nice and great value , we where very inpressed the place, i was there many years ago and all i could remeber was those Ribs i had it is the best ,the place is busy make a booking that is what i did before i went , thank you Thunder Gun you will defnilty be seeing me again

Since covid hit, the food was okay but the service was great. As we try to recover we need to see more of the management welcoming each patron.
