Went to Chicken Licken. You are talking about some delicious chicken. All of Africa I have traveled to, and to go to a chain restaurant and find chicken that delicious is mind-blowing. The service was nice and the delivery was fast. The restaurant was clean and the environment was pleasant. Can't wait to try it again.

The building is amazing with very friendly exterior. Literally 3 minutes walk from the beach. That's why the 3 star rating. Check in time was communicated when we got there, which is very inconvenient for a client walking in during the morning. Elevator is small, challenging for the physically challenged. Rooms were clean and very comfortable, however they were missing a kettle and a fridge. Even after requesting for 3 days we still didn't receive assistance. If you have other options maybe try those and skip yourself the heartache.

The location. It's in town. There's worry "pickpocketors". But it's a beautiful site. Great ambiance. All eateries are there, shopping centres. It's a one stop shopping centre islf I may say. You just need to handle your bag tightly.

Just an okay shopping centre with varieties of clothing stores like Mr. Price, Jet, Markham, Ackermans, and more. The food court got a lot of restaurants too with a sitting area in the middle of the centre. For grocery, there is Pick n Pay and the liquor. Sometimes crowdy because of the location.

Fairly clean inside...not as bad as I anticipated. However there are a ton of people inside and outside. A bit too crowded for my liking.

Not a great experience only because I had to visit a useless government service, however I think it's safer to park here than other places around the area. PS it dirty and they block off acess in places during load shedding

This place is usually crowded especially the food court from Fridays. The centre has got enough number of fast food shops. Parking outside is a nightmare as you can hardly get a parking outside with metered taxis andtaxis everywhere. Lifts needs a lot of attention, not to mention the escalators that are always out of order.

The place really needs a lot of upgrading to make it very attractive. The Food Court is the best are to be in this once beautiful mall. Overcrowded during month end

Has a good amount of the essential stores and then some, so for a regular shopping visit, you should be able to find something here. The directions inside the building though, I walked around for quite a bit and ended up finding myself at the start point, so don't be me, just ask for directions for the particular place you're trying to get to 😅

The service is exceptional, they just need to increase staff in most shops to reduce waiting time in the queues and the ATM must get assistants. Security I friendly and helpful

The elevators were not working, in which it is not expected especially when there's load shedding as malls have upgraded to use back up power plans when there's load shedding. It's not as clean anymore, it seems more as an abandoned center.

Busy as it is, but it a place you can go to get what you need, depending, but not ideal if you don't like noise and prefers to be in a quite space, but hey life is life, sometimes you need that hey

This place is dead now. It was thee place in the late 90s. It was our hang out spot after school in our school uniform especially the blazer. It used to be so nice there. There was a restaurant on the corner next to the arcade where all school kids used to buy food and hang out even celebrities liked it there. I saw Lebo Mathosa there. Oh gosh...gone are the days. Can Carlton Centre be revived again?

  • 3/5 Briaton B. 4 months ago on Google • 32 reviews
The Carlton centre is still a hub of activity, a lot of shoppers still do their shopping there. The food court has most of the popular fast food outlets. However you still need to be vigilant around the mall. If you use e-hyailing, services, avoid requesting around meter taxis, it could cause problems for you.

It's sad to hear about the beauty of this place from elderly people and see it for what it is today. It is not well kept, unsafe and little to no facilities to help shoppers as they move around. The escalators are always broken and the alternative stairs are in dogy corners where people could be robbed etc. They have recently appointed people who can help with directions as some stores are in hidden areas of the mall. Expect to see a lot of people because it's always full here.

Used to be the pride and joy of South Africa, now sitting at number 5 in the Top 10 tallest buildings in Africa. It used to be the tallest of them all for good 46 years with 55 storeys at 223 meters tall, until it got dethroned in 2019 by The Leonardo, just a few kilometers. It needs a lot of work. Another thing that deters people from even considering spending much time there is the surrounding areas. Almost everyone there goes or passes there because they have to. Man! The place is just not safe at all...

  • 2/5 Nontombi Valentina N. 2 months ago on Google • 5 reviews New
dirty, not safe the escalators rarely work, nothing to see there unless it is the only place you will find which has an item you seek, lastly dont carry your bag... youre welcome

The place is no being taken care properly because most of the time the lifts and escalators are not working, that place has got history but it needs to be renovated to maintain the standards for the mall.

The escalators were not working. No one was there to direct us where to go since the escalators were not working which was quite irritating I haven't been to Carlton centre in 15 years but it still looks okay. I like the food court, there are many options. One lady collapsed and there was a short security guy who was really helpful, kudos to him

  • 3/5 Patrick K. 2 years ago on Google
The under ground parking is dark, did not feel safe. The lift looked like its not taken care of missing floor tiles. The escalators were not working and there was no signage to show how we should go to the lower floor to be able to get to the lifts.

It's a nice environment considering that it's in the Johannesburg CBD but once your inside it's as if you are completely in a different place with clothing shops, food court, all banks atms where you can safely make a withdrawal, and surprisingly an arcade, it's basically a good place for a mini date on a very tight budget more especially if your a student.

We had free wifi only for 2 days out of 5 days we stayed there, which was opposite of what we were promised, we reported the matter but they did not seem to care that much, the TV was not working as well, to my understanding when a guest is going to check in your hotel you should check as a manager that the room is 100% ready for the guest, hope when i go there again i will have a different experience.

  • 3/5 Katleho M. 2 years ago on Google
Avoid going on weekends or Month end the place get full. The escalator are often not working. They have number of ATMS and it is to some point save. They have security guards. They’re very helpful you can ask for their help when you want directions. Avoid using their toilet as they’re untidy.

  • 2/5 Motlatsi M. 2 years ago on Google
It is alright. Just it gets packed. Escalators need to be changed and from the first floor going to foods they need to find a way to create conducive way to food court because those escalators from 1st to 2nd floor going to food court they get so packed you could mugged anytime and very easy.

  • 3/5 Walter Z. 2 years ago on Google
The Carlton Centre is an experience on its own. It took me 30 years back down memory lane. I used to work for one of the major fashion retail chains as an Area Manager then, and one of my stores was Carlton Centre! It's a shadow of what it used to be then. Pick N Pay lives up to its reputation in terms of quality of food. But need to seriously look at how paying customers are channelled through the tills. The single winding qeue is definitely not on, bad service to the extreme!!!

  • 5/5 Onica Shale M. 2 years ago on Google
It's still is Carlton center known for its busyness. Traffic on population going in and out of the building. But it hasn't loose it's standard with cleanliness and hygiene. Covid19 regulations are adhered to. There's security guards at the main entrance making sure that they sanitize hands and making sure masks are worn at all times

  • 3/5 Senzo X. 2 years ago on Google
The shopping experience is good but there could be better lighting in the passages and walkways. The shopping centre is also small for the large foot traffic at this shopping centre. Overall they have good and efficient customer service at the shops.

  • 3/5 Cecil N. 1 year ago on Google
Carlton Centre it is good place to shop with varieties of stores, however you must always watch your back. You can't do your shopping without being conscious of the person next to you. There are small groups of people who looks weird, watch individual going in and out of mall🤔 Entrances are always flocking with people 🙄 You must always make sure that your possessions and valuable things are safe and secured, otherwise you will regret big time.

  • 3/5 khanyisile m. 1 year ago on Google
The shopping center has few clothing shops, queues at the banks are always long. The food court is nice though there is some eating space where you can sit and relax with your family and friends

  • 5/5 pretty w. 1 year ago on Google
Very convenient shopping centre. One can do all their shopping and pay accounts here. Very nice place friendly for both kids, adults and wheelchair people as they can use elevators

  • 3/5 Ndate M. 1 year ago on Google
Considering that I last visited Carlton Centre back in 1995 while I was at college, it's ok. Was not expecting much considering the current state of our cities but can say it remains fairly well looked after considering. I was however expecting more as it forms part of the early days developments. Good businesses operating with a few more that seem to have closed down, but in the main it's ok with a good sense of security while inside the mall.

  • 4/5 Clementine M. 1 year ago on Google
The reason I'm giving it 5 star it's that when the escalator is not working you have to use the stairs which happens to have a thin width. You can easily be searched because of how crowded it becomes. The lifts are far from the escalators as well

  • 5/5 Lindiwe M. 1 year ago on Google
The way security was spread out made me feel safe and they are alert be ware they are watching you, also very helpful and polite if you get lost or have a question feel free to ask them. Then the shopping center it self is well equipped there's +/- all the normal shops for clothing, pharmacies and clothing, and banks. There's even a General practitioner and a Dentist. It has 3 floors or sections. And the best thing is if you don't find what you are looking for inside Carlton center, you're garunteed to get it at all the shops surrounding it. Happy Shopping💃

  • 3/5 Susan M. 1 year ago on Google
The escalators are not functioning, one has to walk a long distance to get to the stairs and it is time consuming. Please fix them so that our shopping can be pleasurable.

  • 4/5 Matshediso D. 1 year ago on Google
One of the busiest mall in town but what I like about this mall is you feel more safer inside than outside. And they've got lot of shops to choose from.. From restaurants to clothing shops even rest rooms you get.. We all know that joburg is not safe place especially there next to Carlton centre but as I have mentioned in the mall it's safe and it's clean also that's what I like about it..

  • 4/5 OTHUSITSE M. 1 year ago on Google
A great place to get ur fashion clothes. It's a great place and close to small street. You can get clothes at very good prices. The place is always packed and you should always be careful, you can get mugged. But always be confident and avoid asking every one about everything.

I went to Qunntos Salon and was treated and pampered exceptionally well. The nail tech does an amazing job on pedicures, to date it still looks impeccably new and neat. The hair stylist is the one who did my dreadlocks and styled them, beautiful work.

One of the most popular city shopping experiences next to small street mall. Beware, safe inside but Johannesburg is known for broad day light robberies. Be safe.

  • 4/5 Punkie L. 1 year ago on Google
Conducive, sufficient and in the perfect location. There's still room for improvement & maintenance. I hope some day they'll be able to renovate it, do more to attract the masses and different investors, innovative entrepreneurs, stores, so that there is a variety instead of having to go outside the centre for certain shops/facilities. They should bring back entertainment in the centre as well. Things like decoration especially on eventful national days could come a long way in making the place vibrant. They can do better with marketing it as an attraction, since it's a skyscraper with an amazing top view.

  • 4/5 Ismaila Mohammed L. 1 year ago on Google
This is one of the beautiful environment with shops around all corners to provide u of your needs. But be careful of your mobile phones and do not walk in isolation.

  • 4/5 Sduduzo L. 1 year ago on Google
The Mall is good, the security working there they do assist if need some help. The issue is their first going up escalator which is not working you have to use either stairs or lifts of which they are far to the main entrance.

This is a fairly old & big centre. Efficient security, wide range of shops offering reasonable prices. If you don't mind the traffic of Jhb CBD then it's worth visiting.

It does have some good stores for one's convenience. It is around various transport facilities. However, maintainance is rather poor. Toilets can be of inconvenience. Closed from time to time. Escalators break often. No generator for electricity supply when load shedding hits.

It's a good place to be just too crowded especially when it's month end. If you want to go there, Just make sure you are ready to climb stares since escalators are always not working.

Most of the people like this shopping center, as it has multiple stores. You will never walk away without getting what you wanted unless it's out of stock.
