"Pelican paradise" as the name suggests its breeding spot for spot billed peliecans, a migratory bird from siberia , Phillipines etc. Its in the belt of central Asian fly past. There are also some migratory birds like painted storks, cranes etc.. these are also one of the major type of avian species which are prominent in this area.

I was not able to visit Kolleru lake or Atapaka bird sanctuary despite staying in Vijayawada in 2011-12 & Kakinada afterwards. Only in Jan 2018 had met retired DFO Mr Balasubramaniam who was incharge of this sanctuary for many years! God sent blessings, he had planned to visit Kolleru & Atapaka, we had started in his new car & visited Kolleru lake with help of forest officials. Next Atapaka pelican sanctuary. Nice place with lot of birds, mostly painted storks & pelicans. Mr Balasubramaniam was an expert on birds & had his own camera. I had my own binocular. We had travelled in the ⛵ (The boat driver was very happy to see his old boss, in fact Mr Balasubramaniam had given him the job) twice free of cost & the driver had even recognised many birds & shown us rare white pelicans (just 2 out of thousands of spot billed pelicans). Same day we had returned Kakinada. Very good spot for bird lovers, winter months are good to visit.

Very beautiful. You can see migratory birds from Siberia here between Oct and March. If you visit this place in the evening, you can also view sunset behind coconut trees. This is open between 09:00 am and 05:30 pm

Good place to spend some quality of time with family and kids viewing birds. Boating is also available to view the bird nests closer. Pleasant climate. Best time to visit this place is between December to February end. There is play park for children. Small museum to describe the birds. Toilets are not hygienic. Entry fee Rupees 10 per head and Rupees 100 for foreign national. Boating fee Rupees 250.

Remote place, road was not good. Has good no of birds in month of Nov when i visited. But have to see from far as boats are not in working condition. Could have been better if boating fishing was also available.
