We had visited during the last week of Dec and it was very cold and breezy. It's one of my favorite destinations in Petra! Amazing to see the nature and colours of the stones. One has to walk a few kilometers through the Al Siq Canyon to get to Petra's most famous "Treasury". It looked like a way to guide people to the treasure of Petra. Unforgettable memories and it's worth the long walk.

It literally means "the shaft." Walking through the Siq is an experience in itself. The entrance to the city of Petra is through narrow gorge, flanked on either side by soaring high cliff. The long walk through the canyon is an exciting journey that is worth a visit not only for the historical treasures that lie beneath but also for being one of the unique geological landscapes in the world.

A breathtaking walk leading to The Treasury. It is amazing to see how they were able to bring water to this ancient city when it was thriving.

The way to the heart of the ancient Petra. Beautiful high and tight canyon, carved out by the water. Amazing rocks with breath-taking colours. Very spectacular and photoable. You can find a new wonder in every meter.👍

The gorge entering into the archaeological site at Petra is every bit as amazing as the site itself! The sandstone walls with their incredible texture and colors is breathtaking.

It's always beautiful to walk in this valley. The road is narrow and the rocks are tall. A lot of different colors of the rocks are also stunning. And after all there is waiting for the beauty of the whole journey. The most famous and iconic building from the whole country. Thank you🤩

Winding shaded passage, full of exciting surprises: multicolored massive rock formation that play with light & shade leading you finally & gently to a surprising partial vista of the Treasury.....sliwly disclosing parts of it until the whole Treasury is wide open in front of you.... lovely 3-D experience

The few moments here you can get alone either early in the morning or late at night are just so peaceful. Walking to and from the ancient city of Petra through Al-Siq is an important part of the experience, so don't forget to take it slow and enjoy the sights and sounds.

The walk through the canyon through AL Siq is incomparable. Amazing geology, reliefs in the granite of ancient cultures who also once passed through. Winding throughout are the aqueducts. Unforgettable.

The narrow passage and huge rocks makes the canyon very beautiful. Early morning views are amazing. Every turn on the road made me go wowww !!!! And at the end of the road , you will find the most amazing architecture. Take your time and moment to fill it in. Capturing and cherishing this place for a lifetime.

This is the gorge that is near the start and takes you directly to the Treasury. At some points the walking parts of Al Siq is a large space but sometimes it shrinks down to a smaller space. Really nice colored walls of the gorge. If you’re walking in the morning you get nice shade along your walk, during midday it is horrible. There are a few benches and trash bins along the way so you could take a break at times. Overall nice to see Al Siq and the water systems they built with this amazing structure.

Sure, this is the path you have to walk to get to the sites of Petra. Don’t miss out on taking time to enjoy these incredible views. I know that I have never seen anything like this before in my life. hooray for digital cameras. I know that you will be tired on the way back out. Be sure to take lots of pictures at that time as well. Perspective and light will be different than what you saw coming in.

Stunning visual experience which you are recorded in the retina forever and not forgotten. During the tour, the barrel reaches the 200 meters high at some points and two meters wide, if you look up there are places where the walls almost touch. The anticipation is growing and it is inevitable at the end of it excited when he appears before our eyes the magnificent Treasury.

Such an amazing experience to be taking a walk at Al Siq.. packed full of history and has a story at every turn.. amazing photographer can be done here. If possible visit this place early morning around 6 am just after sunrise to avoid crowd and get some amazing clicks. The place gets very beautiful lit duringPetra by night show. Honestly we liked the nicely lit walkway at the siq more than the night show! We loved this place and sets up the tone for the amazing treasury!

The Siq is almost 1.2 KM long trail among the rocky pink mountains of the Petra archaeological location. Recommended for a visit during the Spring and Autumn.

This place is so intriguing that it will take most if your time while you aim to reach the treasury. The colors of rocks at day time tike and the towering rocks with pores made due to time and wind. Natural phenomenon have created a mystical world. My recommendation: This place is a must. I enjoyed both night and day trek. Its ok to wear shorts but please avoid jeans and other fabric. At night it can be cold. So light jacket recommended. The price (2023 April): Night show ticket is 17JD. A bit overpriced. You get some tea also at the treasury. Buy the Al-Siq is where you should take your time.

The Siq is a narrow, winding canyon that serves as the main entrance to the ancient city of Petra in Jordan. The Siq is a natural geological formation, created over millions of years by the erosion of the surrounding rock by water and wind. The Siq is approximately 1.2 kilometers long and is flanked by towering sandstone cliffs that reach heights of up to 80 meters. As you walk through the Siq, you will pass through a series of breathtaking landscapes, including towering rock formations, sweeping curves, and narrow passages that provide glimpses of the incredible structures that lie ahead. One of the most impressive features of the Siq is the way in which the light interacts with the rock formations, creating a dramatic interplay of light and shadow that changes throughout the day. The Siq is also home to several important archaeological features, including a series of tombs and water channels that were carved out of the rock by the Nabataean people. As you approach the end of the Siq, you will be greeted by one of the most impressive sights in Petra: the Treasury, an intricately carved rock-cut building that is one of the most iconic structures in the ancient city. The experience of walking through the Siq and emerging into the open space in front of the Treasury is truly unforgettable and is one of the highlights of any visit to Petra.

A major component of Petra’s magical tour experience is its stunning entryway. Known as ‘The Siq’ (The canyon), the path is almost a mile-long narrow passage between towering walls, up to 260 feet high. The Siq was formed by a tectonic split that was later smoothed by flash floods.

💥 The Siq is the main entrance to the ancient Nabatean city of Petra in southern Jordan. Also known as Siqit, it is a dim, narrow gorge and winds its way approximately 1.2 kilometres and ends at Petra's most elaborate ruin, Al Khazneh. A wide valley outside leading to the Siq is known as the Bab as-Sīq.

You have to walk a few kilometers through the Siq Canyon to get to Petra's most famous monument, al-Khazneh, or the Treasury. Unforgettable memories 😊👍

  • 5/5 Nathan J. 2 years ago on Google
Truly gorgeous views, rivaling the monuments themselves. The sunlight and shadow highlight the already painted canyon walls in never-ending variety. You'll need to follow the slot canyon photography strategy: take a picture, turn around, take another picture. Take a few steps, and the scene changes completely, so repeat for the next mile. Go first thing or last thing to minimize the number of people in your views. Also, you can pay to ride through the Siq on a golf cart.

Amazing canyon, leading into the Rose City of Petra. The walls are high, the channel gets narrow in places, but still 2-3 meters wide. UT finally opens up at the Treasury.
